Time To Learn, Time To Care

Black hair was pulled back behind his shoulders so that it wouldn't get in the way. It wasn't in a ponytail or the like, though, since the man found that way too girlish. For once, his dark brown eyes seemed content, not filled with that anger or contempt they usually held. The smallest of smiles graced his old lips, and his old fingers gently glided over the strings of one of the guitars in the room.

It wasn't electric, like the ones he preferred. It was just a normal guitar. He smiled and picked it up before jumping up onto one of the desks and sitting down. The chains on his black pants rattled somewhat as he did so, but he ignored it.

He tuned the instrument, but didn't really have much work to do, since it seemed fine. Music was really the only thing that calmed him, that made him feel like he belonged somewhere.

Somewhere...

Strumming the guitar, Allen Haldis actually began to sing. His voice was soft, but even so, it was rather powerful indeed. The notes were a bit high, but he was able to reach them without sounding like the opposite gender.

"There's a place for us... somewhere, a place for us. Peace and quiet, and open air. Wait for us, somewhere..." Allen paused, fixing the instrument so he was more comfortable. "There's a time for us. Someday, a time for us. Time together with time to spare, time to learn, time to care! Someday! Somewhere! We'll find a new way of living, we'll find a way of forgiving, somewhere..."

Odette's arm was extended in front of her so that she could feel where she was going. She was holding both gloves in the other hand. As always, the vampiress was dressed in all black, and her blonde curls fell around her shoulders.

She heard someone singing, and she followed the noise. She recognized that voice...the annoying little twit she'd met on the roof a few days earlier.

His voice wasn't bad, in fact, it was quite nice, but she burst out laughing. He was singing such a girly song and she couldn't help but laugh. Even if it was beautiful...

"There's a place for us, a time and place for us. Hold my hand, and we're halfway there! Hold my hand, and I'll take you there..."

The immortal suddenly stopped. He heard footsteps, along with laughter. And he recognized that laughter. Hands suddenly tightened around the neck of the guitar in anger and his eyes narrowed. He couldn't get a little piece, could he?! Idiots always had to surround him, bother him, ruin his life.

Seven-hundred-seven years of being surrounded by fools, and having been a fool himself for a few hundred of those. Believing Esme loved him, that she was alive...

Now he was rather angry. Strange how he could be so happy one minute and enraged the next. But, that was what happened when halfwits came into his life. "And you're laughing... why?" he questioned loudly. "I mean, I'm not deaf. I'd like to see you play a guitar and get your happiness ruined. So, coem here and try to play it. Come on. Try."

Odette kept laughing. "I'm sorry...wait, no I'm not. It's just so funny...it's such a...girly song." She said. "Especially coming from you." She paused for emphasis. "But then, I shouldn't be surprised. You were to scared to even let me fall."

Odette didn't want to admit she was blind, because it made her feel vulnerable. So she shrugged. "Bring it over and I will."

Of all songs, Allen hardly thought Somewhere was girly. "Apparently you've never known what it is to love and be loved in return..." he stated softly, though with her vampiric ears she might have been able to pick it up. It was a fact for him. Anyone that knew what love felt like would hardly think a song like that was 'girly'. It just showed that there was a place for everyone in the world that they could escape to... whether that place was a location or someone's arms was their own business.

Well, that was how he interpreted it, anyway.

Smirking, Allen stood up and unstrapped the guitar from around his shoulders and neck. He brought it over to Odette and handed it to her. "Go on. Play if you're so good."

Odette snorted. "You should know better than to judge by appearances." She said. Even though she actually never would have considered herself to be 'in love'. It was fun to gripe at him anyway.

Odette took the guitar. She'd never seen one before, she only knew what they were from sound, so she had no clue what to do. She handed it back to him. "That's dumb. I've never played one before. How am I supposed to just start playing it?" She said angrily.

What did that have to do with anything? Judging by appearances, him knowing better than to do so... that didn't have anything to do with it. "I'm just stating that if you had ever been in love then you wouldn't think it was girly," Allen said. "And I don't see what that whole 'don't judge by appearances' lecture had to do with it."

Allen smirked and laughed in a condescending manner. "Heh. PLAY. Go on, try," he insisted, shoving it right back to her. He wanted to see her try to play and fail. "Perhaps you should learn not to laugh at others before you know you can do something yourself."

Odette was too frustrated by then to explain what she'd meant. "Never mind!" She snapped.

She pushed the guitar away. "Stop it, okay!?" She yelled. "I've never even seen a guitar before, how do you expect me to play one?!" The words were out before she could stop them. She glared in his general direction.

Allen didn't really appreciate the fact that she had snapped those words at him. "Explain it," he said, wanting to know. 'Nevermind' wasn't exactly a favorite saying of his, unless, of course, he was the one saying it to change the subject.

An eyebrow rose, but that smug look stayed on his face. "You're a vampire and you've never seen a guitar?" he asked, laughing softly. "You're rather pathetic for a vampire." He looked down at the instrument before looking back to Odette. "But, hey, guess what? Now you've seen a guitar! So start playing."

"I don't want to." Odette replied icily. And even though she didn't say it, she meant "and you can't make me either."

The girl scowled. "You're stupid." She told him. "I have no earthly idea what a guitar looks like. Do I have to spell it out for you?"
