"I have a few ideas, but I hope, if I win, to be able to listen to others and see what people want and really need," Liliana explained as she took a sip of her hot drink. "Campaign ideas are fine and good, but promising better cafeteria food when the school already offers topnotch food, or promising more student council involvement in things when a lot of what happens is already decided by the student council, is , well, it is offering something that already exists and rather silly in my opinion," she told Eurys.

(Sorry! This got pushed to the back of my posts.)

Eurys merely rested his chin on his hand and listened, feeling quite interested in what she had to say. She seemed like quite an interesting persona, one who knew what she wanted and what to do to get there, and he rather like that. A small smile spread over his face as she finished, and he nodded slowly in response.

"I wouldn't be surprised of you did win. You seem to have the heart of a leader, and the right mindset to attend to what people truly want. I like it."

Liliana actually blushed a little at Eurys's compliment. She still had a hard time seeing herself as a leader, especially the school council president. It was a rather big deal, she had to admit that. But the apparent responsibility of it all often overwhelmed her.

"Thanks, I don't feel like a real leader. I am not sure that, even if I win, I will really feel like a leader," she told him very truthfully as she slowly turned her cup of hot chocolate in her hands.

"So, what about you?" she asked him curiously as she sat back comfortably on the couch as regarded him with friendly curiosity. "What are you studying? And have you been on the island for very long."

She seemed content with his compliment, which made Eurys content as well in return.

"I certainly understand that. I come from a royal family, so I've been in that place of leadership before. Sometimes it really doesn't feel like you should be where you are, or that you even have the skills to be leading in the first place. However, that's where outside support comes to be important. You seem to have friends who are uplifting you throughout this, and they'll be a saving grace when the time comes."

A sudden uncomfortable twitch came over his face as he realized he had just mentioned his family, a subject he generally avoided like the plague. However, he very quickly slapped a smile on his face and pretended as if nothing was wrong, focusing on the questions she had just asked.

"Ah, me? No, I've not been here all that long. I moved to the island with my younger sister Marilee about a year ago, and I'm quite enjoying it here. As for studies, I'm currently double majoring in business and engineering."

"Manta Carlos is a great place to live. The people are generally very open and welcoming," Liliana said as she sipped her now cooling hot chocolate. "My family came here just after my seventh birthday," she explained.

"You have a sister here on the island? That's so great," Liliana remarked Eurys with clear interest. She, herself, was an only child and always found it interesting to hear about other people's siblings. "How old is she?" she asked, wondering if she had met her or seen her around the Academy.

"You're quite right there," Eurys said with a smile. "It's so different here in comparison to the place I grew up in. There, everyone was desperate to secluded themselves from outside forces - here, everyone has magic, so there's no need." He appeared curious at her next statement. "Seven? That's quite a young age to move somewhere new, especially somewhere such as this. Did you have any special reason for coming to this place in particular?"

Talking about Marilee seemed to bring a certain brightness to his features, as he continued to sip his drink. "Ah, she's currently 12, but she'll be turning 13 soon. A good deal younger than me, I'm 19 - I sort of look after her in the absence of anyone else to do so."

"Yes, a very good reason actually," she told him thinking he was lucky to have a sister, her tone a little more solemn now as she spoke about her childhood, "When I was about 5, maybe 6 .. I started seeing the dead, communicating with them, and knowing when someone was to pass. Basically, I started becoming what I truly am now," she told Eurys.

"You see, I am not fully human, not really. I look human," she said extending an arm and touching it, "but it's just the form my body has taken. I could have just as easily been an owl or a crow," she explained, "I am actually a psychopomp, a spirit guide... I move the dead onto the next world." she told Eurys evenly, not sure how he'd react to this.

Eurys nodded very slowly as he listened to her speak, feeling rather intrigued by this point. He was somewhat surprised that she would trust him, a stranger with this info, considering it seemed somewhat intimate from her expression. However, perhaps it was just a solemn topic and he should treat it as such.

"I see... that is certainly an excellent reason to move here. I've never heard of psychopomps before, so I appreciate you sharing it with me."

He leaned back in his seat and swirled his drink around in his cup, not particularly focused on drinking it anymore.

"I find that's one of the many interesting things about this island. You meet such a wide variety of new and intriguing people." He lent her a smile. "And I'm certainly glad you were able to find a home here."

Liliana smiled at Eurys's words, "We are a lot more common than you think. Although most of us have taken non-human forms," she explained with a tiny "not-sure-why-that-is" shrug. "My old host must have been human or wanted to be human," she told him as a possible explanation as to why she looked as she did.

"Thank you, and yes, it is a very welcoming place," she said as she finished her drink and cradled the mug, "Hopefully, your sister and you find Manta Carlos a place to call home too," she told him warmly.

Eurys smiled vaguely in thought, as he imagined all the possible places he might have seen a psychopomp before. It was interesting to him that he might have simply walked by one before and never realized it. The more you know, he supposed.

"I wonder exactly how many I may have seen in the past then. You learn something new every day."

Leaning back in his chair, he smiled at her friendly comment. "I thank you for that. So far I think we've been able to adjust rather well, especially since we grew up in a community infused with magic similarly to this one. Marilee is still young, so I'm hoping that she'll be able to adjust quickly and make some new friends on the island."
