Margo appeared to at least be able to comprehend the idea of a ghost, which meant that Cora had been at least marginally successful, far more than she had expected.
"Sort of. I'm still me, it's just that I don't have a body anymore. It's sorta like how you leave your body when you dream... You do dream, right?" She explained, meandering off in conversation as she realized she might have only increased the confusion.

When the girl mentioned that she didn't bring anything else with her, Coraline's eyebrows would rise a little. Those were all the clothes she had? Coraline was dead, and she had, like, two bags full of them, and that was only the necessities! Before Coraline could comment on this, however, the girl changed the subject, and the ghostly girl realized that it was probably for the best that she did not pursue the topic. She didn't know where this person came from, after all.

She asked a simple question now: Was there food in the fridge? Logically, Coraline thought that there was no way there was anything in there, since they'd just moved in, but... Hey, what was the harm in looking? She floated over to the fridge, poking her head inside. Her eyes saw just fine in the dark of the fridge, and to her surprise, it was stocked with some snacks.

She pulled her head out of the fridge and meandered over to the counter.
"Yeah, I guess they gave us some snacks as a part of their welcome week thingy." She said vaguely, looking rather bummed out as she leaned on the counter. "Go ahead and knock yourself out." She said. She didn't want to be a debbie downer, but this whole not eating thing really sucked.

Margo cocked her head as Coraline brought up dreaming. "Dream? Sorry, I'm not familiar with that. Is that, like, something humans do?" Being exposed to so many different terms at once made Margo feel as if she were already in class, learning various quirks to various races. It excited her, but this excitement was quickly overshadowed by her growling stomach.

After the introductions had been made, Margo watched Coraline float over to the refrigerator in the conjoined kitchen and, to Margo's delight, she revealed that the Academy had, in fact, stocked their food stores. Eager to feed for the first time in half a day, and needing to replenish her supply of webbing, she found herself travelling over and quickly shuffling through the refrigerator's vast selection of snacks and beverages.

Some of the items looked as if they were specifically meant for members of a particular species. There were a slew of human snacks, of course, but among the three shelves she saw a tub of red slime, a bushel of what appeared to be glittery cinamon sticks, a few multi-colored areosol cans, and most excitingly, a jar of chopped mud crabs. She removed the jar of mud crab portions and popped two meaty cubes into her mouth, and out of curiosity, removed one of the aerosol cans as she chewed. The side of the can read "Food for Thoughtforms and the Dearly Departed."

Handing the can over to Coraline, she gave her new ghostly roomate a friendly smile. She had noticed the girl's somber expression only moments prior, and hoped offering the can of gas-food would help cheer her up. "Hey, this looks like it might be meant for ghosts. Wanna give it a try?"

When Margo asked what a dream was, Coraline felt that she was back at square one. She just shrugged.
"It's... A mental process humans go through when they sleep. Sorta like TV in your head." She explained. "Nobody is really sure what it is, so I guess it'd be hard to explain it." She told the other girl as she rifled through the fridge. She began to chew on some sort of cubed meat as she retrieved something metal from the fridge. Coraline sighed.

That was one of the few crappy things about her current situation. While flying and passing through walls was undeniably cool, it kinda sucked that she couldn't really eat anymore. Among her many new woes was the fact that she could not make use of salt and iron in any form without hurting herself, something that made warding off spirits quite difficult, and a larger matter of no longer being able to attend church. Coraline had been a Catholic all her life, so it was quite disheartening that she could never set foot in a cathedral or church again. Just another price to go on with her life.

Wow, thinking about this was really bumming her out. She shook her head, clearing these thoughts, as Margo handed her some kind of spray can, explaining that it was for ghosts.
"What do you mean, 'For ghosts?'" she asked, taking the can gingerly, and reading the label. 'Food for Thoughtforms and the dearly departed?'

"Huh. You only live once, I guess." She shrugged, popping the can open. "How do I...? Do I spray it into my mouth?" She postulated, attempting just that. Immediately, she was beset by a blast of surprisingly vivid flavor. The strong taste of strawberry cheesecake seemed to dominate her long unused taste buds, and Coraline said nothing. She just held down the button.

Pretty soon, the entire can was empty, dropped to the floor by Coraline, who floated up into the air, rubbing her belly with satisfaction. "That's the first time I've actually eaten in months..." She sighed, much more cheerful now. "Thank you, Starlight Academy." She jested.

Watching Coraline hover away with delight, Margo couldn't restrain her smile from growing bigger. Chewing her mud crab chunks, and feeling her body produce additional webbing from the sustenance, she found herself wondering who else she would meet during her stay at Starlight Academy. More so, she found herself hoping that she would not make the same embarrassing first impression with the rest of the student body.

These concerns fell to pieces, however, as Coraline commented on how she had not eaten in months. It did not sound as if the ghost girl was speaking metaphorically, and this led Margo to stare at her in a state of shock. "Y-you haven't eaten anything for that long? Criminy out loud...I can't even imagine going that long without feeding."

Looking around the kitchen, it then occured to Margo that she had not yet explored the rest of the dorm room. Feeling as though her supply of webbing was back up to where it ought to be, she then placed the jar of crab cubes in the refrigerator for future consumption and looked down the hall towards the bedrooms. "Guess I should claim a room before our other roommates arrive."

Margo asked, seeming horrified, how Coraline had managed to go so long without eating. Her expression became flat, not neither angry nor joyous, merely a look of resignation, as if the worst of this fate had already been accepted.
"I don't need to eat anymore. Like I said, I don't have a body, so I can't die of starvation. I don't even get hungry anymore, but... Well, sometimes you just really want a snack." She explained. "I didn't have anything like this back home, so at first, when I came back from the dead, I couldn't eat. Well, I could, but... Well..."

She picked up a piece of fruit from the counter and tossed it into her mouth. It sunk through her and hit the floor with a dull thud. She scooped the fruit up and tossed it in the trash. "...It doesn't really work." She concluded.

"What about you, though? I've told you an awful lot about myself, but I don't know much about you, Margo." Cora said, idly drifting towards the wall that contained the strange webbing. "What did you do when I startled you, earlier?" She asked, poking the web hesitantly.

Margo said something about claiming a room, and Cora looped in the air to face her.
"How about this one? You've even got some decorations, all premade just for you!" She joked, pointing to the room that would be to the left of her own, the one with webs on the door.

Watching the fruit hit the ground during Coraline's demonstration of her eating habits, Margo nodded along as she began to form a baseline understanding of what a ghost was. Picking up on the girl's disdain for the topic at hand, she decided to drop the matter, and did so not a moment too soon. Coraline's question prompted a new avenue of thought, down which she struggled to decide just how much she wanted to reveal about herself.

Fortunately, the ghost girl narrowed the conversation down to the nature of her webs, leaving less to be decided. Margo blushed as she saw Coraline poking the splash of webbing on the wall, and her heartbeat quickened as she decided to tell her new roommate the truth. She would be the first to know, aside from the scout that brought her to the island.

"That stuff is what you call 'webbing.' Epnids...we produce it biologically, just like spiders, and we normally use it to make our cocoons." Margo found herself staring at the webbed up wall for a moment before looking down at her hands. "It's just one thing we can do, and honestly, it's probably the most pedestrian thing we do on a regular basis. Outside of that, we have perfect vision in the dark, we can fly, and we can even change what we look like."

To give Coraline an example of this, Margo adjusted her muscles and activated her natural reflexes, causing her body to rapidly change. After about five seconds of seamless rearranging and whimsical alteration, Margo's transformation reached completion, and Coraline would see a carbon copy of herself leaning back against the kitchen counter. "Case in point," she said, her voice matching Coraline's perfectly.

After the demonstration of her shapeshifting abilities, Margo would accompany Coraline over to the webbed-up door. Twisting the door knob and opening the door, she would then look around the room in a fit of astonishment as her eyes hovered over the many furnishings scattered throughout. "Wow. This is so awesome...honestly, I didn't expect our rooms to be half as cool as this. Maybe this place can be home after all?"

While Margo and Caroline were distracted with the only room nonidentical from from the rest, the dorm opened to another group of students- Another duo. But, this group was a lot different from the others: For starters, only half of the party was female, leaving Breken to stand out. Another difference was their appearance- Unlike Margo and Caroline, who anyone would have supposed were twins, Nanya and Breken didn't resemble each other in the slightest. One was an ethereal clump of glasses that'd assumed a human form (if humans could naturally be that pale), while the other was... Well, effectively a tree that'd swallowed a deer and a crocodile.

When the door finished swinging open, Breken almost threw his suitcases down, if not for the sight in front of him. Two female twins, and behind him, the girl he'd gotten to know to be his roommate. If his eyes didn't betray him, there seemed to be four doors, meaning that all members of their dorm were here.

If trees could go pale, Breken would have looked more like Nanya at this point. This implied two things- Either the school had mixed up the dorm situation, which was an impossibility considering the prestige the school had regarding management; or, he had been selected for a mixed dorm with him as the only guy. Had he been a bit more confident, he would have asked if there was a mix up- But that came with the risk of insulting his potential roommates, something he definitely didn't want to do if he was going to be living the next awkward years of his life with them. Instead of doing anything, his mouth hung open for a second, reeling back from the surprise. If he didn't say anything, he'd panic- And God knows that wasn't how he wanted to start the school year.

So, instead of embarrassing himself or staying quiet, Breken mentally said 'screw it', and headed over for the table in the center of the dorm's atrium, to set his bags on. On his way, his antlers raked across a ceiling lamp, causing it to clatter and jangle in a very loud and discernible manner. "I'm fine!" he called out, attempts of being inconspicious suddenly being shattered. "This happens often-" As he shifted his head to tangle his antler out of the lamp, his eyes made contact with the group of girls that had been admiring the webbed over door room, which had probably turned around by now to notice what all the racket was about. "Hi!"

Nanya had been relatively quiet while following the walking tree thing. It was on it's way to the same dorm and when the two made their way she couldn't help but thinking how odd it was for a tree to be walking. It had the features of a tree and it walked, so out of convenience she had let it follow with the goal of being able to observe it more. So far aside from the whole walking and talking part it seemed mostly like a tree to her. It did make her wonder if trees could always do those types of things. Though she wasn't sure if knowing it now would mean anything.

After the door was swung open it revealed a rather nice looking room. Nicer than what Nanya has seen before anyways. It had a sort of comfortable feeling to it and so far the only true annoyance was the ceiling lamp. Some other things that were in the room was a pair of twins but Nanya was pretty sure that they weren't apart of the room decorations. They more than likely others that would live in the dorm. Though for all she knew they could have just been decorations, did the school use people as decorations? "It's odd to use people for decorations... Or is it?" She muttered to herself for a few moments before a frantic clatter broke her line of thought.

The tree had began to attack the light claiming that everything was fine and that he had done that before. Just another unknown thing about trees revealed to her. "So you have attacked other lights?" She asked as she watched the tree unhook himself from the lamp. Nanya was disappointed that it wasn't torn down but she supposed that the tree might attack it again at a later time. "Oh and hello." She said turning her attention back to the twins because she had almost forgotten that there were others there.

Coraline was fascinated y the laundry list of powers that this girl claimed to possess. When she discovered the world of spirits, she thought that she had found something amazing, a whole new world unlike anything else she had ever seen. How could she know that that was only ever the beginning? There were so many amazing things in this world that she had yet to see, and while her soft spot would always be for the realm of spirits, there was so much more to it than she had first thought.

The girl then made an example of her shape shifting ability, turning into a picture perfect copy of Coraline. Her voice was even perfect, though her inflection and tone wasn't quite the same, as far as she could tell. That was... A little creepy, but also insanely cool. Hopefully Margo wouldn't get up to any hijinks with her ability to impersonate anyone.
"Lookin' good." Said Coraline, winking and doing that stupid finger gun thing to illustrate that she was actually kidding, and that she was not actually attracted to herself, because that would be weird.

As she headed over to her room, Coraline floated along behind her, taking notice of Margo's appearance as they walked. After all, how often does one get to see themselves from behind? Coraline stared at herself reflected in Margo as she spoke, noting the way her own body looked in motion. Huh. What a peculiar sight. She floated along, slipping back into the conversation to comment on the rooms.

"They're pretty homey, but I mean, we are kinda stuck here." She commented, just as the door opened, revealing two new occupants of the room. One was a girl, looking rather plain, and the other was a... boy? Whatever they were, they looked quite strange. Masculine in features, yet not at all human. Also, not quite the most coordinated of folks. He tangled his antlers up in the lamp, turning to greet the two of them.

As he tangled himself up on the lamp, Coraline would float over, lifting the lamp free of his antlers and responding to him in kind.
"Hello." She would say, letting the lamp return to its normal position. "Exactly how often do you manage to tangle yourself in hanging light fixtures?" Coraline pondered, about the same time that Nanya asked something similar. She smiled, floating to the ground. "Hello. I'm Coraline." She greeted them, gesturing to Margo. "And this is Margo. We're your roommates. I assume, at least."

After having taken a moment to admire her new living accommodations, Margo joined Coraline in the main room as the two newcomers telegraphed their presence. Her heart sunk as anxiety caused her blood to rush, but she quickly calmed herself, and smiled happily at her new roommates. One of them was a rather pale girl who seemed to gravitate towards dark blue attire, and the other appeared to be a black-bark tree, freckled with patches of moss.

Coraline introduced Margo along with herself as she freed the tree-like student's antlers from a hanging light fixture, and Margo nodded. "Nice to meet you guys," she said. "What are your names, if you don't mind me asking?"

It was a pretty standard way to greet someone, but Margo felt as if she had met her quota for ludicrous introductions after the earlier webbing. So far, the new arrivals seemed far more coordinated than she had been upon entering the dorm room. Well, maybe not the tree guy...but the blue-haired girl seemed to be relatively calm. This brought Margo some amount of relief as she relished in knowing there were figures present to ease the mood.

"Have you guys been on Manta Carlos for long?" she asked, hoping to fuel the conversation just a bit more. It was, after all, their first meeting as a unit.
