Aj nodded along as Angelo filled him in on the process. It seemed like the longest and hardest part would be the degree. That shouldn't be a problem. Aj was good in school and had already been devoting himself to his studies so continuing shouldn't be hard.
"Seems after college it kinda falls into place."
He was sure there would be more to it than that, but it was slightly reassuring how laid back Angelo was with it all.
"Is there any kind of program while I'm studying? Or does it all wait till I'm further in or done?"

ANGELO GENOVESE

"Nope, there isn't any program that runs through it. It's something that comes after... for the most part." Of course there were exceptions to everything, one of which was Angelo himself.

"Really, there's a lot of variety. Weirdly enough, I think social workers actually have the highest educational requirements... probably because there's so much follow up. Once someone's been rescued because of the other kinds, we hand them off to you, and... well, you deal with them a lot longer."

Most of the time Angelo was dealing with someone, he didn't interact with them more than a few days at most. Meanwhile, a social worker might be with someone for weeks or months or even years in some cases.

And that was just counting rescues. They'd also have to keep in touch with everyone, and that was a job in itself.

Having the social work side of it needing the most educational requirements fit. They would need to be versed in long term care of all manner of people and situations. It wasn't something that one method fit the bill for everyone.
"The education makes a lot of sense. I wouldn't have wanted someone that didn't know what they were doing helping me out, and I can imagine that applies to most cases, and even more so in some cases."
Aj thought for a moment as he ran through everything in his head making sure he had it all covered. It seemed like he had a direction in which to go, at least for the moment.
"So let me make sure I got this all correct. Degree first. Some form of psychology or sociology? Then after that I'd do a couple months to get all the specific scout stuff. I think I'm following."

ANGELO GENOVESE

"Yep, that's it," Angelo confirmed after AJ had finished going through everything. "Standard enough career path... not far off a traditional social worker, really."

Beyond that, Angelo couldn't be much help: he worked with social scouts, but he wasn't one himself, and he was limited in what he could share.

"Any questions? Things you've wondered about? I'm an open book, really. Here to help, happy to answer." He wasn't quite getting paid for this little round of mentoring, but it was a good look for him to do so, and he was sure that it was getting noted down in his records.

Aj gritted his teeth for a moment as he thought. He had other questions but they were for school counselors, nothing Angelo could really help him with. Feeling much more confident than at the beginning, Aj smiled to Angelo.
"No. I actually think I'm good for right now. Have other people to follow up with about getting a degree now. But, uh, if I think if anything, do you mind if I send you a message?"
He wasn't sure how far Angelo would go to help out. He seemed like the kind of person to do what he could, but Aj didn't want to assume he could just intrude like that.

ANGELO GENOVESE

"Oh yeah, of course!" Angelo said quickly. He reached out, the tips of his fingers vanishing from sight as they slipped into his pocket dimension, and a moment later he withdrew them, a card in hand.

It wasn't quite a business card, but it had the same general idea: Angelo's name and number, as well as his scouting ID number for easier identification. Considering there were two Angelo Genoveses, it wasn't like he could just go by full name.

He handed the card over to AJ, letting him take it before continuing.

"Shoot me a text if you ever need me—I'm not always on the island, so if I take a bit to get back to you, sorry about that."

Aj took the card and looked it over before sliding it in his pocket. A smile came to his face as he stood up. He didn't want to keep Angelo longer than he needed. Plus he still had other things to attend to as well.
"I can't thank you enough for your time. I had no clue where to go before this."
A hand extended out to Angelo.
"I'm sure you are busy. I don't wanna keep you too long."

ANGELO GENOVESE

Angelo accepted the offered hand, giving AJ a firm and hopefully professional shake.

"Glad to help. It was a bit disorienting for me when I was first trying it out, but hopefully in a few years I'll see you around the office."

Angelo gave AJ a grin, and then would head out, his goodbyes already said.

Maybe he'd hear from him again, even.
