Shortly after revealing the pin, Alby's smirk would disappear. He expected that to clear everything up, Colten was supposed to gasp or something and then he was going to know for sure that he'd been lying. But the reaction he got ended up having an opposite effect. Alby would squint again, frowning and looking confused. Colten must have been ridiculously good at lying. Unless he was telling the truth.

After narrowing his eyes, he'd blink them. "You seriously don't recognize this thing?" He was feeling a little more open to the idea that perhaps Colten was being completely honest. "But... If it really wasn't you then how does that even work? How do you explain something like that? You think it was a shapeshifter or something?"

Alby decided to humor Colten for the time being, but still wasn't completely on board with the idea that he was telling the truth.

Colten uncrossed his legs and recrossed them on the other side, his tail lightly flicking for no apparent reason. "It may be difficult to believe, but it is entirely possible someone is deceiving you and even the school authorities. Possibly someone who dislikes me or demons in general- we've had a rash of anti-demon sentiments recently. There are a wide range of deception based abilities that could have been involved. There are also many other things of which we know even less about. Other dimensions, memory alterations, cloning, and the list goes on and on. Unfortunately I am not allowed on school grounds at the moment so I cannot investigate the area very closely."

At that his sighed and he looked over to his assistant. "Tea for two, if you would be so kind."

Then Colten's gaze shifted back towards the lapel pin. "Wait, you believe this 'other me' dropped that pin? How much have you handled it since then? Perhaps..." he trailed off as he ruminated about potential options that such a thing might open up for locating the real culprit.

Colten was pretty convincing. The explanation combined with how the man carried himself was making his argument all the more believable. Even if at first it might've seemed crazy. Alby hadn't run into someone who could mimic a person's form and voice, alter memories, or clone yet, but he'd seen plenty of other abilities that made things like those pretty easy to imagine. The idea that someone might've been trying to sully his name just because he was a demon wasn't impossible to believe either. This wasn't the first time he'd heard about people having a hatred towards demons and Morey seemed to be a pretty well known one around these parts.

He'd look down at the pin in his hands as Colten asked about it. "Not too much?" He wasn't too sure about that one. He'd picked it up as an item to return to the man later, he hadn't handled it as if it were the one piece of evidence linked to an impostor. "I wasn't really all that careful with it though, it's mostly been sitting on my desk or in my pocket but I did pick it up to look at it a few times." He'd cock an eyebrow at the man. "You think you can use this to find the real culprit?"

Colten certainly didn't have the ability to track the owner of the pin, but that didn't mean it wasn't possible for someone he had working for him to do so. He shook his head slightly. "Not me specifically but I did arrange for a few... helping hands to come try to track down who has been interfering with my image and standing here. I cannot guarantee anything but a demon with tracking abilities might possibly be able to track them easier if they had a belonging of theirs. The less other people have handled it the better though, i'm afraid."

He leaned over to the side, enough so that he'd probably have risked falling if not for his tail acting as a counterbalance, and slid open a small drawer on an end table to retrieve a spare handkerchief. "Here, place the pin in this so you're not in contact with it anymore. I'm assuming me taking it to them myself would leave you suspicious that I might be trying to dispose of evidence though. Hmm." How best to handle this? The easiest way would be to just call them in to immediately examine the pin. But, well, not all demons were as polite and respectful as Colten. Doubly an issue if we are talking about a far too curious human who might try to pry too much.

Alby listened intently as Colten explained how the pin might have been able to help him in uncovering the truth. It was pretty clear by now that Colten had plenty of connections, so him calling in a demon with tracking abilities made sense. Alby would narrow his eyes at the pin. "I see."

His eyes shifted over to Colten as he pulled out a handkerchief. It seemed he expected Alby to just hand the little trinket over. Though as the man continued to speak, it seemed he understood exactly how suspicious that was. "Hmm." Alby would look to the pin then back at the man again, considering the circumstances before deciding how to respond. After a few moments in thought, he'd let out a sigh. He slowly got up from the chair and walked over to Colten. He'd stare at the handkerchief for a second once he got close, then place the pin in his hand.

"For the record," Alby would look the man in the eyes with a serious expression. "I don't believe you." He'd turn around and begin walking back toward the door, shrugging before explaining himself. "Unfortunately, I can't say for certain that it was you. So, I'm left with two possibilities." He'd hold one finger up "Either you got drunk and roughed me up," Then he'd lift up a second finger "Or someone is out there trying to ruin your reputation." Alby would turn around again to face Colten. "I really don't care if you get in trouble for shaking me up, people get drunk, it happens. But if you really are innocent, then there's a serious problem out there. This is just the safe option."

Colten had set the handkerchief down on top of the table and let Alby decide what to do with the pin. Obviously trying to insist on any particular action might make it seem even more suspicious so he waited patiently and calmly. But sure enough the boy did hand it over, placing it on the displayed piece of cloth.

"I'm quite aware of your skepticism. And I can honestly see why you might upset someone like me. But I do so enjoy the 'innocent until proven guilty' sentiment here. I did not get drunk and rough you up and you are wise to realize that something far more serious is afoot," he agreed. Who knows what might happen if the person or persons causing trouble might do something extremely bad. Although impersonating Colten was extremely high up there on his own personal list of bad things. But that was his pride talking.

Before Alby could get too close to the door he was stopped by Colten's assistant who was waiting there with a tea kettle. "I suppose that tea for two will have to wait a moment, Adonia. I'm sure our guest didn't intend to wander unescorted through my home so i'm afraid you'll have to help him find his way safely out," Mr Morey called out to Adonia but also phrased it in such a way that it was clear to Alby who was in charge at the moment.

"Be careful how you investigate these things Mr. Alby. There are dangerous and powerful people here on the island."

Adonia was ready to escort Alby if he wished to leave. Colten clearly wasn't interested in doing so himself. He was staring curiously at the pin without touching it.

Alby would squint his eyes, unsure of his decision as Colten stated that he saw how Alby could annoy someone like him. Not exactly the kindest thing to say, especially after he'd handed over the pin with so little resistance. Regardless, Alby brushed it off for the time being. There was no point in being annoyed by something like that. He just had to act normal and he'd be able to walk out of the room and get a better look at the manor before departing. Or at least he thought that.

It was more than a little disappointing when Adonia showed up again with the tea at the worst possible time. Instead of the leisurely walk out with plenty of sight seeing, he was doomed to receive the same showing he'd gotten on the way in. He'd sigh at the mention of that.

He'd hear Colten's warning about being careful, but didn't really take it to heart. Being careful wasn't really his specialty and if there were people like the ones he described, Alby didn't consider them the worst thing to run into.

"I will. And you... prove me wrong about you."

With that, Alby would head out, to be escorted by Adonia and catch quick glances at all the spectacles again on his way.

Colten wasn't typically a mean person. But he was insulted each time Alby mentioned how the man might have gotten wasted and took to beating up teenagers. Insulting the pride of a Pride Demon was bound to make them grumpy and he was no exception. But he just nodded and let the young guest leave in the company of his assistant.

He didn't dignify the order Alby gave him with a response.

Adonia stoically escorted the curious Alby back through the same halls they had traversed as they entered the Manor, letting him take a casual pace but she did not seem too interested in giving him opportunities to stop and gawk. As they made their way out he would have gotten a glimpse of a bronze-skinned girl with a lower half that appeared to be house centipede-like as she scurried around a corner and out of sight doing some sort of task or another.

Most of what Alby saw on his way was the same, apart from the one centipede person who he didn't get a very good look at before they seemed to scurry out of sight. That wasn't to say it wasn't still an interesting walk. He hadn't gotten a good look at anything in there, so it was nice to have a second chance.

When he got to the gate, he'd wait for Adonia to have it opened so that he could leave. He had a lot of things he wished to write down in his journal before he forgot them, but he was going to wait until he was home to do so.
