The Uncloudy Day

Marisol took the stairs up to the third floor two at a time. She was wearing all black as usual. A plain black short sleeved t-shirt and dark blue jeans. She had a book, Persuasions by Jane Austen, in her hand.

She looked down the hall way, then opened a door. It was devoid of any furniture, but the window was big, and plenty of sun shone through. She sat down on the floor and stared out. It was a perfectly sunny day, hardly any clouds at all.

She thought of Dev for a brief second. She hadn't seen him since the dance. Not surprised. I knew he only asked me to be nice. She glared at her moss-hued skin. Cursed...

If she didn't have green skin, she'd probably have friends. And possibly even a boyfriend. Possibly even Dev...

But then again, if she wasn't green she would possibly still be at home, and she'd never have met Dev in the first place. Though that might have been a good thing...

The teenage girl shook the thoughts out of her head and opened her book. She started reading, slowly becoming unaware of her surroundings altogether, and totally immersed in the words.

Dev had seen Marisol go upstairs and followed her. It had been weeks since he'd seen her, and he basked in her beauty. Coming up behind her, he began reading the book along with her. Trying not to laugh, he paused when she flipped the page before he was done.

"I wasn't done reading that!" He said with outrage.

Marisol screamed and the book flew out of her hands and hit him in the face. Her lips formed an 'o' when she saw it was Dev.

"Oh! Are you okay?" She asked, standing up and retrieving her book. She sat back down and held the book tightly.

She closed her eyes, trying to regain her composure. "What are you doing up here anyway? Stalking me?" She said the last part sarcastically.

She looked at him and her sarcastic mood started to dissapear. She glanced away quickly and went back to being indifferent.

Dev grinned. She likes me. "Oh, of course not! I wouldn't stalk a person. Even one that's as pretty as you." He knew he was flirting, but he didn't care. He sat down next to her.

Marisol groaned and rolled her eyes. But inside she was pleased. "Oh please! You don't have to lie." She replied.

She told herself he was just saying it to be nice. Because guys like him didn't like girls like her. Or think they were pretty.

She looked down at the book on her lap shyly.

Dev shook his head. "I'm not lying. I just see things differently than most people." He smiled. Sticking his hands in the pocket at the front of his black hoody, he suddenly asked, "What're you doing up here anyway?"

Marisol's cheeks turned red. "Yeah. I'm sure. You need your eyes checked." She said seriously.

Marisol smiled. "Well, I was trying to read, but this annoying guy came in and started talking to me, so now I'm just sitting here." Her voice was teasing.

Dev laughed and pretended to pout. "Meanie." He grabbed her book and looked at the back of it for the plot line of the story. "Sounds....beauti--" He laughed. "No, it's terrible!"

"Meanie."

Marisol rolled her eyes. "Oh suck it up! Be a man!" She teased.

She snatched her book away. "It is terrible." She agreed. "But I like it anyway. It's kind of sadistic...I like sadistic books."

She shrugged. "So what were you doing here anyway?" She asked.

Dev laughed.

"So what were you doing here anyway?"

Dev grinned sheepishly. "I was...ah, following you." He flushed slightly. No, he hadn't been stalking her. But following her was the almost the same thing.
