Jamie was sitting on the library again, it was the probably the only place besides their room they felt comfortable in. Even though a lot of the books were too complex for them, they still enjoyed looking at them. Jamie was hunched over a technology book they technically couldn’t read but it had a bunch of diagrams.


They could admit that they were technically hiding away from people. They no longer had a work bench at home to hunch over and work on random things. The whole aspect of being away from their family and in such a weird place was overwhelming and frightened. Closing the book after looking at all the diagrams and identifying all the small words they recognize, they went to return the book.


Now that they had did what they came to do they were just sitting at a table watching the door. Pulling out their notebook of hastily drawn blueprints Jamie started to go over them. They had ran into so much new technology it was amazing.

Shiro walked into the library, in their male form for once, they rarely used it anymore, but today was one of those rare occasions, that said she decided to shift. So she did just that, shift as she walked past the tables to grab a book from the shelf, returning to her female form, her shorts turning into a mini skirt and her shirt into a crop top shirt.

The cat shifter hummed a little, her cat ears twitching as she noticed someone watching her, turning she'd tilt her head. "Heyo," the goth girl would say, giving a friendly smile, "guessing you're new," she'd giggle a little, "I'm Shiro."

She knew newcomers were often surprised by a lot of the shifting abilities here, so she wasn't upset. "But yeah, it's a type of shapeshifting," she'd explain, approaching the newcomer.

Jamie looked up when someone passed the table they were sitting at. It was a sort of nervous habit they were trying to overcome, sorta freaking out when people were close. Still what caught their eye was the shifting. If their whole embarrassing awkwardness wasn't enough to deal with, supernatural beings and humans with supernatural powers were being thrown into the mix.

They blinked at the girl that appeared or rather shifted in front of them "Oh yeah, I'm Jamie and yeah I'm new/. So you just change your sex? It's that simple no pain or anything?" Jamie tilted their head to the side and then to the other one. It was a fascinating thought, but they didn't want to poke the other person like a science experiment.

"Yup," she'd say with a small giggle, "my ability is based around body shifting, so far just the sex shifting and make my cat ears and tail pop up in human form, but I'll figure out more eventually." She was developing powers rather quickly actually, it was quite fun.

She'd take a seat at the table, seemed they were having a conversation. "I don't mention it a lot but...I was born a guy," she'd say, tilting her head, "or at least, biologically male," she'd shrug. "Discovered the shifting a few years back, lived in the narrow reality though, so didn't get to use it much," she'd brush some hair from her face.

"Came here started to use my female form and...now it's almost the only one I use," she'd chuckle, "you saw a rare instance of me using my male form."

Jamie blinked a bit and looked over the other person. This was indeed a strange place, though if they were being honest it wasnt the weirdest thing they’d seen so far. Shifting in any form was a bit strange, they wondered if everyone felt differently after. It seemed like it would hurt to change the form of your body. Then again Jamie knew there was a charm that did the very same thing this new person could do.

“I hope my questions aren’t uh making you uncomfortable...im just not used to all these different powers”

"Nah you're fine," she'd give them a smile, "it's honestly kinda nice talking about it, and I think it's normal for newcomers to be curious." She'd lean back in her seat, "it's become normal to me anymore, just my every day life."

She'd chuckle, "they actually have charms that do the same thing actually," her cat ears would twitch slightly. "Enchanted pieces of jewelry, when worn they change your sex," she'd of course never needed such a thing, but she'd seen them in stores.

Jamie nodded “Yeah I’ve seen those, the people wearing them were a bit pushy.. but i think that was a situational thing” they were reminded of the time at the community center. Pushing those thoughts away they looked over Shiro. Perhaps this was a good time to make a friend. They just needed to figure out a way to manuevur the conversation towards that.

“I don’t remember i-if i asked t-this b-but what grade are you in?”

"I'm a high school freshman," she'd say with a small grin, "fourteen, though I look a little older than that." She'd chuckle and hum a little, "I'm guessing you're in high school, probably a bit older than me though," she was guessing they were around seventeen.

One of her cat ears twitched a little, "you seem nice, though a little shy," she'd giggle a little. "We could hang out some if you'd like? Be friends, I can introduce you to my siblings too, they're pretty cool." She could tell he was a bit timid and in need of some friends.

Jamie thought for a second “Sure, as long as that’s not to weird. Im sorta eighteen.” They were pretty sure that it would be considered weird for them to hang around freshman and stuff. Of course they could’ve been just blowing out of proportion it was better to be safe than sorry. It’s not like they left their room for things besides classes anyways.

She'd chuckle, "don't see how it'd be weird, having friends that are a little older or younger seems find to me." She had a few older friends, though they were mostly big sibling figures, either way she saw nothing wrong with it.

"I've been here....," she'd hum in thought a moment, "about six months I think, it's weird, feels both like not a long time but so much has happened that it does." She's dated and broken up, reconnected with her long lost siblings, so much had happened.

"Do you have a phone?" she'd ask, intending to give him her number.
