Rowan Langdon stood facing his daughter, Evelynn. They were in a small clearing in the forest and bright sunlight shone through the gap in the canopy. "Right, we're here because I figured you should start training properly now. I've let you mess about with your magic for long enough and, while you're getting good and controlling and using it, you need better training."
Without any warning, Rowan threw a fireball in the direction of his daughter to see how she would handle it. It was only small and could be easily stopped by Rowan if she didn't know what to do.

Evelynn was being dragged out into the wilderness to stop rocks and sticks in mid air, maybe even juggle them for a bit. She didn't understand why - she was very good with her powers already. Without warning, her dad threw a fireball in her direction. Her entire eyes glowed a violet colour, along with the runes on her arm, as she compelled the fire to stop with one hand outstretched in it's direction. Letting it hover there for a second, she shot it back at her father - he was definately capable of stopping it. "You're going to have to do better than that, dad," she said as the glow faded from her eyes.

She threw the fireball back at him and he held out his hand, absorbing the fire back into himself. "Very good," he said, "if i must do better, i must do better."
With that he hurled a flurry of much larger fireballs at her, making them all fly at her from different directions. He trusted her to be able to stop them all, the first one was just a practise.

He was seriously underestimating her ability. Once again her eyes radiated a violet glow, as did the runes. All of the fire balls paused mid-air, with a violet border around them, both arms out to her side. She brought her hands together as the fire merged into one large ball, sending it hurtling in her dad's direction. "Honestly dad, it's like you're not even trying."

Rowan laughed as he once again absorbed all the fire. He was proud of how well his daughter was controlling the situation. "Okay Evelynn, so you can control the fire well but what would you have done if i wasn't there to absorb it? You can hardly let whoever threw it or started it set the place on fire."
To demonstrate, he threw another flurry of fireballs at her and shifted into his lion form (in order to gain more speed) running away to see how she would deal with it now. He shifted back and climbed a tree in order to watch exactly what she did.

What was she to do now? She had merged the fire to one massive ball again but she didn't know what to do. There seemed to be no water around. She was not powerful to seperate the atoms to stop a raction. Then she had an idea that could work. She focused all of her energy on increasing the purple telekinetic field around the fire, it began to become more opaque, stopping oxygen from getting to the flame. It eventually snuffed out enough for her to bring it down to the ground and stamp it out. Sweating slightly, she yelled, "Done!"

Rowan leapt down from the tree, landing in a crouch. He walked back over to where his daughter was stood, evidently a little more worn out this time. He smiled, "well done. Good thinking."
Noting the sweat on her head he pulled the rucksack off his back, took out a bottle of water and threw it to her, taking one for himself. "We'll can take a break. You can decide what we try next, if you like."

She caught the bottle and unscrewed the lid, taking a sip. Slumping down against a tree, she thought about what they could do. Her mother had been able to read minds; a power Evelynn had always desired. Then there was her staff: it granted it's user the ability of flight and concussive blasts. Though Evelynn could already fly by using her telekinesis, it took a lot of effort and concentration. Her father didn't think she was ready to use the staff - she disagreed. "Maybe ... I could try using mum's staff."

"Hmmm... not yet Evelynn. It's not that i don't think you're ready, powers wise, I sometimes just think... you might still be a little young. I don't know. Perhaps later, if you do well today."
He took a drink himself, pondering what to do. "You could always concentrate more on flying without the staff? Yes let's do that."
He motioned for her to get up and he himself went and stood by her. "I'll catch you if you fall." Rowan grinned, "but knowing you, I'm sure you wont."

She knew he would say no. She also knew it was pointless trying to persuade him. No meant no, it always did. She stood up and said, "Fine." She stood in the centre of the clearing and closed her eyes. When they reopened, they were glowing once again. Slowly but surely, she began to rise into the air. Stopping when she was ten feet off the ground, she crossed her legs in mid-air, shaking a little.
