Zachary took off, trying to keep up with Trini, but it became very apparent that she was faster than he was. He had the advantage of rage, but using it just to make himself faster wasn't going to work, and she was being more competitive than he had ever seen her. Despite this, he was more focused on the fact that they weren't going to be working as a team for this and that meant of course that he would have to work it himself as well.
As he ran, he thought. It didn't take long for it to occur to him that he didn't have to outrun either of them, he only had to keep warrior from passing him again, which meant that simply getting ahead of him wasn't going to help because another pass, one short burst of speed was just going to throw him further behind. He would wait until he was at the end of his laps, on the final stretch to suddenly decrease the number of laps he had to run and then stop there. With that in mind he focused on keeping Warrior and Trini in sight and making sure they didn't get too far ahead of him for his plan to work.
Decent pace was maintained but there was no way he was going to be able to outrun them without using rage or, at the very least, without resorting to some underhanded use of gifts to change the situation. Hurting Warrior's leg came to mind, but the energy involved in doing that was going to slow him down even more. He could disappear into the umbra and use its jaunt to pass, re entering just ahead of his fellow runners, but that was unsafe as he could re enter just in time to get passed again and re orienting oneself at the same time as he entered was one of many tricks his Sensei had mastered that he wasn't able to fully grasp just yet. No, his original plan was the best option. Smiling, he sprinted forward, trying to stay on Trini's heels, and hoping she had a plan of her own as well.
