Leaving her brothers behind had been one of the most difficult decisions Anna had made in her life. They would be okay, or at least, that's what she kept reminding herself. They were both in high school now, and the foster family they'd been with for the past two years was getting ready to adopt them both. Things would be fine. They could video chat with each other and stay in contact and that was going to have to be good enough for them all, because this was Anna's life now.
Special...
Anna had never really known exactly what she was until recently. She'd had these powers and abilities for her whole life, and had only just found out that she'd been born a siren and had these powers and...all that. It was new to her, and she'd only just been experimenting with what she could do within the past couple of months. She refused to let herself believe that her music had been tainted by her powers - she'd always loved music, and just because it seemed to fascinate other people in a mysterious way didn't mean it was bad.
She let herself into the massive ballroom and moved quietly to the grand piano that was kept in the corner of the room. This had been her escape from the world for the past couple of days. Music that came straight from the soul. Brushing her fingers over the ivory keys, Anna sat down on the piano bench and, with a deep breath, began to play. Classical pieces were always a preference - they were so beautiful and complicated and long, and she could just play them for hours on end. The music that she pulled from the keys lifted and filled the room, and she immersed herself in it.
