Being a courier had is advantages and disadvantages. The advantage was that he had an excuse to wander across the rooftops and through streets without worrying about the police stopping him. He wore the shimmery blue vest that denoted him as a delivery monkey, and most people knew that that meant he could use any route that he wanted as long as it didn't disrupt traffic or harm people.

One of the disadvantages is that you never know exactly what it is he's being asked to deliver. While he worked under the official Manta Carlos Postal Service, due to the nature of the island, there was a much wider net of things that he would have to carry around. One of his coworkers ended up carrying what was classified as a normal ingredient, but was actually being used as a hardcore narcotic. Another boy ended up delivering a pack full of chinchillas to a strange lady who owned a hoard of animals.

But nothing bad had happened to him yet, so as far as he was concerned, everything was fine. And everything would continue to be fine. As long as nothing bad had happened yet, nothing bad would happen.

A false, but comforting statement.

He checked the address on his phone one more time, just to confirm that this high end restaurant was indeed in the seedy part of town.

Not that it was necessary--in the distance the spotlights waved slowly in the the air, which could only come from his destination. He sighed and jumped to the next roof.

"Hello! Delivery!" He handed over the product and held out the screen for the man receiving the package to sign.

"Thanks little miss."

Wei simply bowed. He wasnt upset--he wore a cycling skirt with compression shorts underneath when he worked, to help with his mobility. Though, even in school he wore the girls' uniform, and he really didnt have any justification for that.

He walked in the alley, looking towards the walls for a way to get up to the roof. In retrospect, he should have expected that he would bump into someone.

And bump he certainly did.

"Oomf!" He stumbled back a step or two. "Ack... I'm sorry, are you..."

He looked. The girl was young, certainly too young to be around here. "Are you lost?"

Wei leaned in a little, as if he was going to touch her and see if he'd hurt her in any way, but he pulled back before he did, remembering that some people didn't like to be touched. And especially people who frequented the seedier part of town--it would be best not to put hands on them without permission. That was just asking for seven different layers of trouble in a layered bean dip.

As if remembering himself, he pulled his hands back and held them up before dropping them to his sides. "But, you..." He looked at her clothes. Dressed like a little doll, he could only assume that she was lost or something. He couldn't imagine someone like this willingly wanting to spend time in this part of town.

For a moment he looked around. The older men that loitered around sent looks in their direction that sent icy fingers tracing down his spine. He shuddered. He really ought to get back home, and find wherever this girl lived too, while he was at it.

Perhaps he'd made a mistake.

Well, that's par for the course.

"Well... Sorry, but you looked around my age, so I... assumed..." He looked out of the corner of his eye. Those leering eyes... "Are... you sure you're alright?"

Wei frowned. He could tell that this girl was going someplace or doing something, but the idea of leaving her be in the Underground was probably one of the scarier thoughts he's had recently. He nibbled his bottom lip and seemed to think before stepping aside to let her through.

But before she could shove past him, like it seemed like she was getting ready to do, he quickly blurted out, "Could I at least accompany you to wherever you're going? This place doesn't sit well with me, so..."

He couldn't just leave someone be. Call it selfish, but he needed to at least make sure this girl got wherever she was trying to go without getting hurt. He wouldn't be able to sleep tonight otherwise.

Not that he would sleep very much anyway, but still.

He sighed. If she was right where she needed to be, he supposed there was no reason to impose on her anymore than he already was. No doubt this girl thought he was annoying, if the looks she was giving him was any indication. He balled his hands into his shirt, and let out a small sigh before nodding.

"You're right. It was... probably pretty rude of me to stop you, right?" He'd heard so many stories of people his age and girls especially wandering into the Underground never to be seen again that he perhaps forgot that there were people who frequented this place of their own volition.

He bowed to her. "Sorry about that." He pressed his back against the wall. There was more than enough space for her to walk by now.

Wei watched the girl go and... well, wondered if he'd done the right thing. If any of this was the right thing. Should he have stopped her? Should he have blocked her? Should he have even said anything at all to her, when it seemed that all talking to her did was make her more upset?

He'd mull over this for a few days, he knew.

Finding a nice, slightly collapsing brick wall, he climbed onto the house's roof and made his way back to the dispatch office to report to his supervisor.

What a night.
