Hella sure didn't seem okay. And the fact that she, or he... no she, was backing away was heartbreaking. Hella was a girl even if whatever magic she had been using to keep her appearance had failed or been broken. Just how much had she given up for this?

Aura whined plaintively as Hella pulled back and away. She reached for the right words but could not utter anything but noises. Saddened, dismayed noises as she was left on the floor alone. She howled again, trying to muster up the strength to follow her. The best she could do was crawl forward a bit, not making it all the way to the wall where Hella was before collapsing to the floor again with a low thud.

Hella was nearly in tears as she listened to those saddened howls. Despite feeling like she wanted to crawl out of her own skin, she moved on her hands and knees to Aura's side. Her hands were trembling and she was cold as she reached out and touched the white, bloodstained fur.

"I-" she started, stumbling over an unfamiliar voice and a swelling in her throat. Hella cleared her throat several times and tried again. "I'm glad you're alive. I thought I'd lost you, so I..." she turned her eyes over to the charred, used up heart that was lying uselessly on the floor nearby.

Hella collapsed against Aura, too weak to hold herself up any longer, and she cried.

Aura's heart ached, though she wasn't in enough of a right mind to fully comprehend what had happened. Something terrible had happened and again she leaned on her instincts to guide her.

Since she couldn't speak she lifted one of her huge paws and draped it over and around Hella. Pulling her into the blood-soaked but warm vicinity of her body. So cold. People weren't supposed to be so cold.

She whined and curled her head down to sniff at Hella. Trying, and failing, to figure out what happened. Finally she gave up and closed her one remaining eye. Falling asleep protectively curled around and holding Hella.

There was just too much to recover from for her to stay awake.

Hella couldn't sleep. Not yet. But there was blood, warm and sticky in the fur that she was being pressed into. It was intoxicating, the coppery, macabre scent. She pulled it off of Aura's fur, down to the last drop, and absorbed it through her skin.

It wouldn't be a strong heart. It would be small and weak, but it would keep her alive and let her sleep.

And that was precisely what she did, falling asleep curled up next to the giant wolf that she loved so dearly.

Aura was exhausted, mentally and physically. In fact she was so exhausted that she slept right through until the next afternoon.

As the full moon's influence finally faded the large wolf unconsciously shifted back into Aura's human form. Although now she had no tendrils on her face, she was still more or less how she had been before all this mess- fairly petite and with purplish pink hair. Of course her hair was a mess.

She was wearing a loose fitting- the point of nearly falling off her in fact- pair of shorts and a tanktop. The clinic staff having decided not to try to force anything more restricted on her the previous days. Slowly she began to move and stir a little bit during that period where the body is waking up but the mind isn't fully active again.

Hella woke up with a start, her heart pounding in her chest. Why was her heart beating so fast? Why was she in a hospital gown? Why was she not - and the memories came flooding back. She felt herself starting to panic, squeezing her eyes shut as if that could force out the reality about everything that had happened.

The monstrous thing she'd done to Aura. Her tattoo burning away and leaving her looking... like this. The thing she'd fought so hard for. She didn't even realize that she wasn't alone in the room, that Aura was in the bed just across the room from her as she sobbed into her hands, curling up into the fetal position on top of her sheets.

Aura's head pounded but she was no longer locked into her canine form. She let out a quiet cross between a groan and a moan as she made to roll over and fall back asleep. But in her partially awake state she heard something that made her hair stand on end.

Sobbing.

Sobbing that wasn't her own. It snapped her to wakefulness probably quicker than was healthy and she blinked. Or winked. Because only one of her eyes seemed to work. But before she could investigate that she saw the blurry form of someone curled up in another bed.

Not recognizing them immediately, and still coming down from the agitation of the moon she growled and clambered out of her bed on shaky legs to prowl over towards the intruder. But her sense of smell was not diminished at all and the familiar scent of Hella, and blood too- but mostly of Hella, found her nose. What did this strange elven looking man have to do with her beautiful girlfriend? Thoughts were still a little slow to connect.

"Hella?" She croaked out quietly. "Where's Hella?" Her voice raising in confusion and panic.

Hella flinched when she heard Aura's voice. She recognized it immediately and curled up tighter in the fetal position so that she wouldn't see her like this. "Don't look at me, please!"

The sound of her own voice was grating. She was out of practice with raising her pitch - she hadn't had to do it in so long. So rather than sounding airy and measured like she had always imagined that she had before her transition, Hella's voice just cracked when she tried. Still heavily Norwegian, but not at all the voice of the woman that Aura knew.

Aura flinched and then growled in frustration and confusion. "No. Tell me... where is Hella?" Her anger dipped back down into the cold fear that Hella could have been hurt or killed as she said her name.

She didn't heed the request to not look either. Instead she approached and turned her head to the side. Swiping her messy hair out of the way of her eye.

But the motion was misjudged and she missed her hair the first couple times, as wooziness and the lack of depth perception messed with her head. Aura slumped back down to her knees. "I have to find her..."

"Aura-" she started, her breath hitching, her voice quiet and shaky. She couldn't physically pull herself into any tighter of a ball than she was already in, but she sure as hell tried. Her voice slipped even quieter, barely a choked whisper.

"It's me, Aura."
