Aren sighed a little “Like I said it’s like a normal hard drive. Plug it in and it will ask for a code to enter to access files on the hard drive. It’s a random string of three words that all constantly shift from what I know. Wait! There is a glitch in the program, it took some damage when I was getting it I think so there is a second file that gives you direct access to the code. I don’t know how it works but I’m sure you can figure it out.”

Jude was not entirely convinced he could figure it out. He wasn't really a computer expert or anything. But he took the offered hard drive anyway, looking it over and considering. If it really did have access to the code... Well, he wasn't entirely convinced it was a glitch. That was too obscure a glitch.

More like an offering. A puzzle. Something like that.

"Alright. I might not be able to do it immediately. I'll look into it, and... I don't know, get back to you this weekend with what I find?"

Aren nodded happily. “Yes yes! Thank you so much Jude! You have no idea how much this means to me! Here’s my phone number, please contact me when you can get it unlocked. Thank you again!” Aren rushed off quickly and happily, extremely excited that Jude took his offer.

Jude spent the next few days reading. Not even looking at the puzzle. Because once he'd pulled a spare computer out at the school and plugged it in, he'd gotten a massive wall of numbers. He'd read through the whole thing, handed them off to Giltenn, and then he'd gone on with his life.

Giltenn spent time crunching. Considering possible ciphers. Decoding. Jude had his classwork, reading through textbooks for the coming school year so he'd have more free time later, and more or less didn't peek back in it.

Or at least he didn't until Giltenn told him they'd figured it out.

theredking.

That wasn't a coincidence.

Jude popped the hard drive back into one of the school's computers, punching in the password to see what it gave him.

In the hard drive there was files on top of files of almost every incident and entity tested on in the facility Aren was in. Inside of it Jude would see two files that may immediately peak his interest, a file named “The Great Devourer” with the simple text: After the incident at facility theta, summoning this being is strictly prohibited and all that do can and will face extreme punishment or even termination. The second file of interest was Aren’s profile.

Aren’s profile was fairly standard for the most part, with the first thing standing out was his history: Aren was discovered in an abandoned house as a young infant and has been taken care of by the facility ever since. The rest of the profile was fairly normal with pyscological tests and surprisingly short details on his powers. The last two things that would stand out were two foot notes at the bottom of the file:
1. After Incident 13PA, Aren is to be under constant surveillance.
2. When means are discovered, permanently terminate Aren immediately.

It was nostalgic. He'd done something similar, once upon a time, and he regretted the loss of all those files. Regretted that his perfect memory hadn't existed at the time, and so many details had been lost.

He wished he could have remembered the exact things his father had said in those files.

The idea that Altizica was connected to the facility was not terribly surprising to Jude. If he was going to guess, he'd assume that Altizica had been summoned to earth by the facility. Maybe to stay. Maybe only temporarily.

But Aren had asked for his own file, so Jude had focused on that, skimming the file and finding the general overview. Very little he didn't already know.

Of course, he had a massive hard drive, so the first thing Jude did was flip over - searching for facility theta and the incident labelled 13PA.

Facility Theta would bring up a rather long and dull history of its creation and uses throughout the years. The only thing of actual usefulness was the very end: Facility Theta sadly met a grizzly end after multiple containment cells breached due to an improper summon of an Eldritch creature.

The file of Incident 13PA would bring out a long five paged incident report for about three seconds before the screen would flash black. Suddenly the file was the one page with the words: The red king always watches, little god, little puppet.

So Altizica had eaten the facility. Good to know. He filed that mental note away for later, but he wasn't sure how relevant it would actually be. Aren would probably know about him, but... god, Jude realized. Was this going to be another Syrra? Another person who Altizica had eaten the friends of?

He pinched at the bridge of his nose for a moment, and then turned to 13PA.

The trick with flashing things up was that Jude knew them. His memory was perfect. No one else could have read it, but all Jude had to do was see something, and then he could just rewind it in his brain to read the whole thing.

Which he absolutely would, frowning at the screen and it's little message.

Giltenn was good and irritated at that.

What Jude would be able to properly gather from what little he saw of the file would tell him of the day June 15, 2010. On that day Aren had a scheduled visit with an demonic entity only known as Subject 57. During the visit while the current researcher was away for an important issue, Aren had been cleaved in half but strangely Subject 57 had also perished with no details further given. Any further information that could have been shown in the incident report Jude would not have gotten to see.

It was a lot of information, but Jude would have had a hard time calling it good. It just was, and without a grander context, he didn't know what to do with it.

So instead, he texted Aren, letting him know where to meet--a little park not far from the school--and then went to wait, the hard drive in hand.
