When Nick fell silent, Mery tried to think of something to say. "So...how old are you?" She asked. Okay, so it wasn't the most witty question, but it worked.

"I just turned 16." Mery replied. "When's your birthday?"

Mery suposed it was easier to have conversations with people when you could actually see them. She hoped Nick had something to talk about, because she was running out of topics.

Nicolas smiled. "October 30," he told her. The day before Halloween, that was usually a fun birthday. He quickly tried thinking of something else to talk about, because he most certainly did not want to go back to silence.

"Sooo..." he began slowly. "Um.... what's your favorite movie?" he asked.

Mery nearly frowned, but she didn't. Worst question. Ever. She thought. Of course she didn't watch movies now, and even as a kid she didn't watch much. But she had been obsessed with one movie...That was Beauty and the Beast. Kind of a childish movie for a 16 year old to like.
"Um...Singing in the Rain." She lied. She'd only seen it once, but she'd liked the dancing. "What about you?"

Nicolas thought he could tell for a moment that he had said something wrong by asking that. He was about to ask, but decided against it. Maybe he'd ask later... but he didn't feel like he should ask right now. Besides, she had just answered him, so maybe he hadn't said something bad after all. "Cool," he said. "I've never seen it, though. I guess my favorite's The Nightmare Before Christmas."

He went silent. He was thinking of other questions to ask, plus he didn't want to say anything incase he said something bad again.

"Oh." Mery had never seen it, so she couldn't say whether or not she liked it. "Never seen it." She said instead. "What's your favorite band?"

Funny. They hadn't seen each other's favorite movies, and he was sure both of them were pretty popular. He nodded anyway, and thought for a few moments when she asked what his favorite band was. He didn't listen to much music, but was able to come up with an answer. "Evanescence," he said. "Yours?"

That was a hard question. Since she couldn't watch movies or T.V, she listened to a lot of music. "I'm not sure." She said thoughtfully. "I listen to a lot of different stuff...Maybe...12 stones..."
