Chloe needed to get some studying in, but she didn't want to be somewhere that she might accidentally bump into someone else. Not as long as she was suffering from this curse that zapped people around her into the opposite sex. Most of the cases didn't seem to be permanent at least.
Her solution was to study outside. It was a relatively nice day out - cloudy enough to mellow out the sunlight, but not so cloudy that she had to worry about rain. Warm, but not too warm. She sat on a bench at the far end of the courtyard, away from all of the foot traffic. Someone would need to go out of their way to get within zapping range of Chloe.
Chloe was too buried in her second year biology book to notice a freshman with cat ears walking up to her. She might have tried to warn her if she had.
