"Another Halcyonite," Jude said. "Gabe was on the same team as Xavier, so he's known him a bit longer than I did. He's also..."

Jude wrinkled his nose a bit. He'd been about to say a bleeding heart, but that was critical, and he didn't want it to sound that way. It was a good thing. A positive thing.

"Sorry," Jude admitted after a moment. "It's a lot to take in. I just wanted to talk to you and get... some kind of an idea of what I was looking at for when I talk to Dani."

Xarrah nodded, she wasn’t sure what else to say. She hardly new Xavier as well as they did. In fact she barely knew the boy she’d quickly grown attached to. “I still don’t know what to say to her ya know? She shouldn’t have been on the beach...neither of us. Especially since we were supposed to be talking..i wasn’t expecting her to be there.” Xarrah felt guilty, they both were at the beach because she needed an explaination for Xavier’s behavior. She said horrible thing to her friend and then he died. Her last words to him were full of malice and contempt.

“Are you going to talk to her now? If so could I maybe tag along...I just don’t want to say the wrong thing.” She gave him a shy but hopeful smile. It was hard for her not to say what was on her mind. She didn’t want to voice her concerns about the suspiciousness of Xavier’s death. It all felt planned, and the more she thought about it the more she felt like crawling out of her skin.

"I was just going, actually," Jude said. "I've been here a few hours, but Gabe's still there. He's a lot better with kids than I am."

He wanted to chalk it up to having siblings, only Gabe didn't have siblings, so it wasn't like that was actually a factor. Gabe was really just nicer than he was.

"If you go now, he'll definitely still be in there. But thanks for... for having this talk with me. I'm going to go home and get some actual food."

He let out a small laugh at that, trying to end on a light note that might cut back on the absolute fucking horror of the conversation they'd just had.
