Myrrh tried to not look excited as students spilled into the power gymnasium for flight class. It was obvious, however, that he was excited. For starters he was paying attention, and secondly, his couldn't stop flexing and spreading his wings. He would deny it to his dying breath, but Myrrh showed many of his emotions through his wings. Much in the same way a dog expressed itself through it's tail and ears. Which was probably why Myrrh adamantly denied it. Class began and the teacher announced that they will work in groups of two to complete an aerial obstacle course.

Various flight lanes were set up, each with a course for students to fly through. The teacher explained that today's lesson was to practice aerial agility and flight control while building speed. They were to fly through their course multiple times, with the goal of improving speed and control. Myrrh very nearly let out a whoop of joy. Not only were those his best areas but he also go to show off to a partner? Heck yeah! The teacher then paired them off and Myrrh was placed with a kid named Remiel. The name sounded familiar, but Myrrh couldn't place why until he saw his partner.

"Oh hey, you're that stuck up angel, aren't you?" Myrrh said by way of greeting.

Rem always looked a little too serious during power classes. If he was going to truly become a real guardian angel then he needed to be in good shape and have perfect control over his abilities. That was a lesson taught by his mentor back home and one that he wasn’t going to let go of any time soon. Even if it made him look a little out of place among the other students.

As much as the angel did generally enjoy power training, he wasn’t a majorly big fan of group work. His track record with that was... not incredible to say the least.

Rem had never heard of anyone named Myrrh, but vaguely recognized the guy from around school once he saw him. At least he wasn’t paired with a demon. He really didn’t feel like dealing with that whole situation right then. That being said, Myrrh quickly landed himself on Rem’s bad side with that initial greeting.

In what probably did nothing to prove Myrrh wrong, Rem replied with an annoyed tone. “I am not.” Afterward he looked awfully stuck up.

With that being the only thing he’d say to Myrrh, he began to eye the courses. He admittedly wasn’t where he wanted to be with agility so this would be good. When it came to flight speed he had no problem getting to the extreme by stacking wings on himself, but his turning suffered pretty bad after the second pair of wings so that sort of speed wasn’t exactly practical in most situations.

What was his name again? Rubert? It was some kind of R name that sounded old. Not that Myrrh could talk himself, as his parents named him after the gift in the Three King's story. Myrrh did crack a grin at his partner's totally stuck-up response. He may not know the guy's name but he did know some demon kids who hated his guts.

He hopped closer to his partner and eyed their given course with glee. Shame it looked easy. "I'm guessing the teacher paired us because you suck at agility." Myrrh said, and stood up straight to minimize the height difference between them. "Speed and agility are what defines my species." And it wasn't bragging when it was true. "So why don't you go first and I'll give you pointers."

Myrrh only continued to get on Rem’s nerves. Assuming that his agility sucked and then implying that his own was better. “My agility does not suck. Even if it did, I can garuntee that’s not why we’re paired up. You’re an avian of some sort while I’m an angel. Our mechanisms for flying are very different.” He spoke in an uppity manner before sighing.

“How about I just show you.” Rem didn’t have a problem with the going first part. He’d do just that and then they could see if Myrrh had any real pointers to give.

Rem looked up at the course once again, trying to figure out exactly what he needed to do to smoke this bird. First would be a straight flight to the first obstacle, likely his strongest point; Then there were several hoops spaced far enough apart, he’d need to fly through those; Afterward were a series of floating poles that he’d need to weave through and then finally a descent back down to the starting point through another set of hoops that were lined up perfectly. This wouldn’t be so bad.

Rem flapped his wings once before even taking off, then glanced to Myrrh. “Ready.” And with that, two extra sets of wings appeared on Rem, both on his arms close to his shoulders. With the wings in place and his magic active, he took flight.

Just as the angel explained, his version of flight was a little odd. His wings never seemed to actually flap while he was ascending and despite this he was going incredibly fast with very little time being used to get to full speed. He got to the hoops in no time, and it was there that he actually missed the first hoop, only to steer around slowly and then burst through it. The rest of the hoops went in a similar way. He’d go more carefully to line himself up with the hoop and then burst through them. It would be clear at this point that Rem couldn’t actually control himself all that well while maintaining his top speed.

When it came to the weaving, he ended up slowing down considerably as well, about the pace of a common pigeon. He essentially stopped using his extra wings at all.

Finally, when it came to the descent, he spawned an additional two wings on himself on his legs and sped himself straight through the hoops and toward the ground. He was determined to show Myrrh what an angel was capable of, but that determination was replaced by a realization that he was going too fast pretty quickly.

Thankfully, getting all his wings to move in one straight direction wasn’t all that bad and he was able to slow himself down substantially, but he still hit too hard to stick the landing and ended up breaking his fall with one hand. Not quite as graceful as he would’ve liked.

"Avian of some sort?" Myrrh repeated, somewhat offended by the generalization of his species. "I am a Greek Harpy." He said, "And it's flying, just how different can it be?" Angel wings, harpy wings, what was the difference? Unless Rem weird skin wings like bats or dragons then what was difference? "Be my guest," He said and hopped back a foot to give Rem room for take-off.

Myrrh settled into a more comfortable half-crouch position and watched as Rem made an extra two sets of wings appear on his body and take off. So the angel could pull out more wings, cool, but to what advantage? Go faster, likely, which seemed to be true as Rem built a ton of speed fast. Myrrh was almost impressed. Then Rem missed the first hoop and had slow down and turn to get through it.

That's cringe, Myrrh thought. It only got worse! Angel boy can go fast, sure, but what was the point when he could only tackle the obstacles at a slow, controlled pace? Oh no, Myrrh hopped back several more feet as Rem made his descent and hit the brakes so fast it made Myrrh's wings ache with sympathy. Rem manged some sort of landing, and not crash horribly.

"That was sad." Myrrh said with absolute bluntness. "I get you wanted to show off but, uh, you didn't succeed." Jeez, where does he even start? "Like, you can go fast, but you can't control it, so what's the point, dude. And, like, you had tunnel vision. You were, like, too focused on the obstacle in front of you that you weren't ready for the next one." Not to mention Rem's way of flying looked unnatural to Rem, so he guessed the angel was right about one thing.

Rem was already unhappy with how that went, before Myrrh said anything. When it came to things like this obstacle course it seemed that he did worse the harder he tried and that fact alone bothered him. The fact of the matter was that his training with Sera never really involved agility alone and at paces like this so he was going to have to learn it himself whereas everything else he’d learned had basically been done with a personal coach.

He didn’t say anything to Myrrh, but when Myrrh commented on his poor performance calling the entire thing just flat out sad, Rem’s face did get noticeably redder. He looked at the ground as Myrrh went on about how terrible of a job he did. Sera used to be blunt about his mistakes, but it never felt quite like this. Perhaps it was because Sera was Sera, he was supposed to be the best so it really didn’t matter much to be worse than him. Instead he was getting lectured by this harpy who he already placed on his bad side before any of this had begun.

Rem was clearly salty when he spoke, the red of his face still all too evident. “How about you go then. Show me how it’s done.” His arms were crossed.

Man, this guy's face got red, Myrrh thought, but did not say. See, he wasn't totally heartless. Though, Myrrh was sure if he said that it might just lead to him getting punched. "Okay, but it's just going to make you feel even worse." Myrrh said with a shrug. He hopped forward and linden himself up with that first straight run of the course. He raised his wings and in three flaps was off.

Myrrh didn't go full speed, he actually went slightly slower than Rem had on his first approach, except he maintained that speed through the hoops. Through slight manipulations of his wings, Myrrh smoothly flew through each hoop and without pause. the poles. He slowed a fraction more before entering the poles, if only to save his wings the strain of performing the tight maneuver at high speed. Regardless, his weave was perfect and Myrrh was set for the last stretch of the course

He looped down into the descent and put on a burst of speed towards the last series of hoops. Myrrh whooped as he folded his wings tight against his body and torpedoed through each one. For his landing, Myrrh slowed by swinging into a series of tight corkscrews tilted down and towards his landing spot before Rem. He landed softly, and only slightly scraping the floor with his sharp talons.

Myrrh was smiling, and was panting slightly, but he was happy. The thrill of flying! Going fast,
performing tight maneuvers, it filled him with a rush of adrenaline. He wanted to go again, and almost did when he remembered Rem. "We can take the course one section at a time." He said while shaking out his wings. He was itching to do it all again.
