When Logan mentioned he was a Christian, Shay was silent before she looked at the keys again and said, "I used to be Catholic." Used to be, because Shay wasn't sure what she was anymore. Omnist, she supposed. She tapped a few keys, listened as they reverberated throughout the room and their sound died down to nothing. The air felt heavier, somehow, when the music wasn't playing. It was too silent, the type of silence that brought about a high ringing.
Shay met Logan's eyes, really stared into them like she hadn't before. There was nothing directly challenging about this expression. She searched for something; even she wasn't sure what. For that gaze, she let down her guard. It always felt like Shay could only connect with these people in sincerity. She had never thought herself better than them, but was she exactly the same? The urge to hurt, pushing her forward? The need for blood? If she killed someone, would she feel anything at all? Or would it all be emptiness, apathy, maybe worse -- maybe it would be excitement that sparked a high in her unreachable by all other means.
"You should try playing some Bon Jovi, like Living on A Prayer. That seems like it'd take some innovation."
Shay shivered, and it took all she had not to suddenly yank away when Logan touched her. Mature as she was, Shay was still a hormonal teenager and Logan still a cute boy. She reached up and toyed with her bangs, a flimsy attempt at hiding the color on her cheeks.
"A movie?" Brain moving too slow, body sensitive to his warmth, Shay couldn't recall asking him to a movie, though she knew she had once before. If she remembered correctly, she'd invited Clarence and Dorian along as incentive. Now he was suggesting it just be them? She was perfectly okay with that. More than okay.
"I like the Breakfast Club," she responded lamely, then gave a flustered sigh and an equally ruffled smile. "Yes, all right. That sounds good. Better. I have to get home soon before it turns dark." Her family would worry.
Shay stood up, gathering her backpack and stopped to give him one final long look. She debated giving him a kiss on the cheek, but ultimately decided it wouldn't be a good idea. He seemed jumpy enough near her as it was. She curtsied before departing, walk a little stuff and mind far, far too messy for this.
