"Maybe you should get some training? Or get a different, easier weapon to use? I was thinking about some pepper spray or something. I don't know. I hate being so...squishy." She gave herself a rueful look. If she had the money, she'd learn some martial art, or something. Maybe she could try to self-teach herself.
Kenta shrugged. "Up until today, it didn't seem to matter... Now though... I probably should... Maybe we could take sword lessons together? There must be some great teachers in a place like this."
"I... suppose." Shay was no only staring at her food. She had to eat it though, she'd left him hanging before. She would need to think of a way to pay him back. She hated being in people's debt. "Swords aren't very practical, though. I can't bring one with me where ever I go and if someone has a gun, they beat me. Kind of a rock, paper, scissors deal, huh?"
Kenta seemed to have regained his appetite a bit now that the subject was less focused on... him. He ate a few of his fries and took a sip of his soda before answering. "Well, not necessarily. I've seen movies where a really fast samurai cut a guys gun apart before he could even pull the trigger. I wanna be that skilled! The samurai just walked away after that, and the guy couldn't do anything about it with his broken gun! I wouldn't even have to hurt anyone with skills like that!" Kenta went from oddly quiet to his happy smiling self pretty quickly. The whole idea was exciting to him. When he realized he was yelling though, he settled down, blushing just a bit in embarrassment. "... And, well... I always have my tanto on me, so..." He thought for a moment, then added "Maybe a gun would be best for you though... You would be able to keep your distance. No risk of touching them..."
"That, and I can't move super fast and cut a gun apart. Would it even be safe to cut a loaded gun apart?" She grabbed the ketchup bottle nearby and shook it until a large glob came out on her plate. She dipped one of her fries and plopped it into her mouth. She did this a few more times before speaking again. "Probably better if you don't learn your moves from a movie. That's my lesson for you." Then she smiled because it was only a half joke. Maybe not even half. She was mostly serious.
Shay polished off her french fries, but she wasn't feeling up to eating her burger.
Kenta smiled at her confidently. "I bet with enough training I could do it. I mean, with all that happens around here, someone's surely done it for real, right?" He asked completely seriously. "Anything can happen here. Thats what Laetus said when he told me to come." He took a sip of his soda and began on the burger. Unlike the slow process that was the fries, the burger seemed to disappear in almost the blink of an eye, and he was soon back to the soda, finishing it off.
Shay watched in amazement how much Kenta could eat. She pushed her plate and her burger over to him, offering it up. "I'm sure someone has, but I still wonder how smart it is to try and cut up a loaded gun. Only one way to find out. Or, you could look it up on Mythbusters, I'm sure they'd know."
Shay slipped out of the booth and stretched, wondering where they should go next. He could eat so much. She eyed him over. She wanted to get to the bottom of this. Why wouldn't he just let her try? Why was he so worried about her? She could take care of herself. He hadn't killed her last time.
Kenta hesitated to eat the burger at first. Wasn't she hungry? ... Clearly that was a no though, so he ate it as well with the same swiftness before getting up as well. He pulled his wallet from his sleeve and just left the money on the table. On their way out, Kenta was stretching and rolling his shoulder. "It's already starting to feel better." He though out loud. He looked at her. "Are you doing alright?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," Shay smiled. He probably had quicker healing than hers. No, she would have this for awhile. Hopefully, it wouldn't become a scar, but she doubted it. She just had to not mess with it. "How do you eat that much. That would hurt my stomach." She led him toward the trail they had walked on previously.
Kenta shrugged. "I've heard its cuz I'm a growing boy, and I've heard its cuz there's a fire in my stomach... Both seem valid." He said with a laugh at the end. He followed her close, but on this trail he seemed cautious. Was he walking her home or... were they going back already?
