Shay felt embarrassed for having forgotten about the nightmares. "I'm sorry," she said guiltily. She didn;t give an excuse, just an apology. "But Kenta, I think those dreams are real. That wouldn't be the craziest thing to happen on this island."
"But..." He looked at her. On some level, it was clear he felt she was right, but he really didn't want to accept it. "What does that mean? That I..." He shook his head and laughed a half hearted, nervous laugh. "You think I... That I was... That I turned into that monster from my nightmares..?"
Shay just stared at him. It was all she could do. Yes. She did. She wasn't sure what to think about it, but that was the most likely thing. She knew what she'd seen. No matter how briefly. And all those...voices. She knew them too. She understood them.
"... No. No way." He said, desperately shaking his head. "There's no way I... That I..." His head stopped shaking, his body beginning to in its stead. "You haven't seen my dreams. You see death a lot, I know but..." He held his arms around himself. "Theres so many... I can't be responsible. I just..." He began rocking back and forth.
Shay looked from side to side, again shifting. She didn't want him to cry. Crying wouldn't help this. "Well, you haven't killed anyone recently, have you? Maybe you outta find out what happened two years ago, Kenta."
"Two years ago..." He held his head. "Two years ago I was born. I don't... How would I find out about before that? Noone... Noone knew me before that..."
"I don't know, Kenta. I've never dealt with anything like this." Shay wanted to tug her hair out. Again, she couldn't help him. But someone had to know something, right? There was never just nothing. "But maybe you should backtrack and think about it? Someone had to know you. Or maybe..."
Shay stopped herself and took a deep, scared breath. "Maybe we could try something else dangerous and see if it happens again? Maybe then I'll get a better look?"
His eyes widened and his heart pulsed at the idea. "No...." He... Couldn't. "I don't... I don't wanna be that... That monster... And besides that, how can we even be sure we can trigger it to happen again? Trying would risk your safety! And even if it worked, the... Voices..." He trailed off.
"It's that or you're left wondering. I'm...fine with trying, at least. I'm curious." She paused. "And we don't know if we can trigger it again, but we could try."
