"I...guess. I mean, what happened, though? I really want to know. I've never felt something so overwhelming and I've been around a lot of death."

Kenta stopped and retreated a bit. He didn't want to think about it. His gaze went down. "I... don't know... I remember... Feeling really scared. I thought... I couldn't... That we were gonna die... I heard... a second beast and then... I don't know. Everything sorta went black... Fire... Blood... The screams... I think... I had that nightmare again..." He shook his head. "Next thing I knew, I was here... I saw you..."

"I saw...." she tried to remember. Hadn't she heard a cold voice? Hadn't there been a man? The longer she thought about it, the more the space behind her eyes hurt. The vision would go blurry and she would be forced to rub her face. "I don't know what I saw but it was...terrifying, Kenta. Really terrifying."

"Terrifying..." He tried hard to remember anything, but got nothing. Then a thought occurred to him. "Did you see the person that saved us?" He asked, looking up at her again. Someone had to save them, right?

"It was you," Shay said without thinking. She knew it was. There was no one else. It was Kenta. "It was you who saved us...but you weren't you at the same time."

At that time, a nurse came into the room, and Shay quieted. The nurse checked up on Kenta, asked him how he was feeling, and looked over his vitals.

The nurse's timing was bad. All he wanted was to ask her what she meant. All the nurses questions were answered in distracted mumbled. I saved us? I... wasn't... He couldn't wait any longer than he had to. Once they had headed out, he asked the question burning in his head. "What do you mean I... saved us? How did I..." His face showed the desperate stress of trying to remember, but all he remembered only seemed to upset him. "I... I didn't. I was failing... I... I couldn't stop it. I couldn't hurt that thing. I couldn't..." He started crying as the feelings of helplessness came back. "I couldn't do it! Couldn't do anything! Couldn't protect you like I promised! Even with my all! Even when I was willing to..!" He was yelling and crying and holding his heart. He couldn't get any of this out at the time. Hes been trying to hold himself together. To not think about it, but... "So... What... Do you..." He sniffled and wiped his eye with his palm. It didn't help much. "How did I save us?..."

Shay shifted uncomfortably and moved more of a distance from him as he began to cry. Crying people had the tendency to hold onto people and she really didn't need that right now, as selfish as it was.

"I don't know. I really don't, Kenta. Like I said, that was all I saw. You weren't you. You sounded so cold and...you were a lot taller. Then there was all these whispers and I couldn't see anything or hear anything anymore. That's all I saw."

He stopped, taking a deep breath and composing himself again, shaking his head as if it would clear it. Once he felt... calmer, he tried to think about what she said... It all brought him to one thought though. "It sounds... like my nightmares..." He told her.

"What are your nightmares about?" she asked, more curious than before. She wanted to know what had happened too. Shay wouldn't admit it now, but she'd been scared of him. For him.

"I've... told you before." He said, his gaze sinking. "I feel like... I'm me, but not. Like I'm seeing through someone elses eyes. Like.. I can't control anything. Then... Theres fire... Bodies... Blood... I..." He bit his thumb hard. He couldn't start crying again. "Its gotten clearer lately. I've... I've even started to feel the blood on me..."
