"Yeah. I'd be scared to live without Sariah, though. And my adoptive parents just think I'm in some European boarding school, so living here would take some explaining."

She breathed in slowly and when she breathed out any tension in her shoulders was released. "Wanna talk about something more lighthearted? I could think up something happier, I'm sure."

"Always something to think about though."

He'd take a sip of his coffee as she took a breath, hard decision to think about and all."Yeah, I wouldn't mind a subject change myself."

Maddie drummed her fingers on the table as she thought about what to change the topic to.

"Oh! Have you ever had alcohol? Is it nice? Do you get used to the taste?"

He'd laugh a bit, a little too loud. "Yes I've tried it and no I don't like it, the taste or the sensation. I'm sure someone could get used to it but it's not for me."

Maddie held her cheeks and put her elbows on the table to rest her head. "I've never had it. I've barely had any experiences. I don't think I've ever even held anyone's hand. It's kind of funny, because you expect someone like that to be some great A student, but I'm doing B's and C's."

"Nah, there's a difference between being, well, sheltered and having good grades. Besides, school grades aren't everything they just show how well you play the game. You've got more freedom here on the island too, so you have plenty of time to experience a whole load of things, normal and extraordinary." He was also telling himself this, he wasn't too popular at home or outgoing, so he hadn't really had his share of experiences either. "Honestly the only reason I got straight A's is because of my photographic memory, probably a power in itself actually."

"Photographic memory," she said dreamily. "Man how I'd love that. Until I saw the things that should not be seen, 'n' all."

She closed her eyes, seeming peaceful enough to be asleep. "This whole place is new and different. Pretty scary. I'm just glad I made a few friends. I haven't met anyone cruel yet. Hey! Have you ever slow danced? I've never done that, but I always thought it looked kinda fun. I think I'd trip all over the place like I was walking on ice, though.

"Oh! Oh! Oh! Speaking of slow dancing, have you ever been to a wedding? is the cake really good?"

And here were the questions. Maddie could never stop asking questions.

He'd grimace a little at her comment about seeing things that shouldn't have been seen, "Yeah, tell me about it." He hoped his comment didn't graven the mood.

"Yeah, this place sure is something, but it's kinda nice, new place and new experiences." He'd look around the cafeteria, taking in the scenery. He'd laugh again at her eagerness, "I have slow danced before, it's alright I suppose, I'm not one for dancing honestly. Don't worry, it's not that hard to do, your partner could probably guide you as well."

He'd take a sip of his coffee, looking down he was almost out it seemed. "I've never been to wedding, not sure if I'd go, don't think I'd really be comfortable at one."

"Oh? Did you take a class in slow dancing or something? I would wanna learn how to do it, bit I can't imagine in what situation I would slow dance. Dancing with a girl would be weird and dancing with a boy would — well..." Her face flushed and Maddie finished off her coffee in three long gulps so she didn't have to express how finicky she would be to be that close to a boy.

"Have you ever played spin the bottle?"

"Uh. school dances, my mother always made me go to them, said it was a good experience for me. It was the basic slow dancing, nothing extravagant. Well, not really much of a choice with who you dance with, I mean if you don't want to dance with a girl then a guy is what you got left." She went red again, maybe it was the heat of the coffee.

"I have not, not that I wouldn't mind it, it's just I didn't go to parties really."
