Steam and Snow: Nailah's Arrival

A young female strolled along a path in the courtyard of the Academy. Dressed rather light for this type of weather, she was simply cladded in a blue, long sleeved shirt, jeans, and a pair of boots. Sleeves of said shirt were rolled up as well so really the girl should've been freezing her rear off. She seemed to be not bothered by the cold however, most likely due to the heat she must be giving off to vaporize any snow that fell near her.

Sitting on a nearby bench, she seat two bags she'd been carrying down next to her; one duffle, one messenger. Looking at what appeared to be a map of the school, she sighed. This place was big. Made her last school seem cramped in comparison. She had been getting her lay of the land most of the day and she was sure she'd forget a bit of what she learned the next day. Folding up the map, she placed it in her messenger bag.

Looking up, she stared at the falling snow, then to the snow on the ground. Having not seen snow before arriving here, the Ifrit had been wowed upon witnessing it for the first time. She had only seen snow in media before. Standing up, she let the heat 'shield' around her fade, dropping her temperature to allow the snow to reach her. Shivering, Nailah chuckled a bit, leaning down to scoop up a handful of snow, molding it into a ball.

Pulling her arm back, the Ifrit chucked the ball at a nearby tree, watching it break apart upon impact. She chuckled again, brushing off her hands after throwing her first snowball. Plopping back down on the bench, her heat raised again, the snow that had fallen to rest on her now melting, becoming steam. Propping her arms on her knees, she rested her chin in her hands as she sat, content to watch the snow for a bit

The snow was almost as beautiful as it was in Russia on Monte Carlos. The past five years had really made Castiel unaccustomed to snow, though. The U.S. was so warm compared to Russia and even this island. It was a nice refresher, though. Decked in an Academy sweater, the boy longed for his hoodie. He was relieved that classes were over and that he could breathe in the crisp winter air. As he leaned against a lone tree and dropped his school bag, he felt a sense of nostalgia.

His peace was short-lived as he felt a snowball hit the other side of the large tree. When he heard the impact, he instinctively tensed up. He figured that lean figure must’ve gone unnoticed by the girl as he stared at them sitting on the bench. He was somewhat tempted to roll up a snowball and pelt it back, but he didn’t have gloves on and he didn’t feel like using his power to do it. Instead, he stood up and came out from behind the tree and yelled at the girl, “Oy! What was that for?!” His bag left on the frozen ground.

He was in a particularly pissy mood now that his fragile and rare peace was shattered yet again. He hoped it wouldn’t end like it did last time since he didn’t really feel like making out with someone again.

((Welcome to SA! I'm sorry about my child))

Nailah shifted her gaze when she heard the exclamation, blinking. A pale blonde kid was shouting at her about the snowball she threw. Did she almost hit him? She wasn't really paying attention when she threw it. "Sorry, didn't see you there." she responded simply, returning to gazing at the snow.

She leaned back on the bench, trying to decide if she should just head to where it said her place in the dorms would be or if she should continue exploring.

Castiel glared at her. He’d been kinda willing to let it go, but the pure emotion of ‘I-don’t-care’ evident in her voice was enough to get Castiel a bit angry. Instinctively, he pulled his hand up and felt a tug in the back of his head. A pile of snow half the size of Castiel was rolled up into a ball loosely. It wasn’t hard enough to hurt, but enough to annoy. He moved his hand forward, feeling the tug get stronger, as the snowball/boulder flew at the girl. Yet again, he didn’t really aim to hurt, so it wasn’t fast enough to hurt. When the snowball successfully hit the target, Castiel smirked and said, “Sorry, didn’t see ya there.”

Nailah glanced over, noticing the snow lift up into the air. She stared for a moment before realizing where it was intending to go. The air around her shimmered and rippled with heat as the snow 'boulder' flew at her. It seemed to impact her, though as the snow melted and became steam, it revealed....Wings? Folded in front of her were two leathery wings, which opened suddenly, showing her skin had become red and the white of her eyes, black.

Two small black horns rounded off the physical changes, the young Ifrit, stretching her wings. "I suppose I CAN do this in public now....I might end up liking this island if I don't have to worry about keeping my nature hidden," she stated. Leaning down, she cooped up some snow as the heat around her died down, molding it into a ball.

With a smirk she lightly tossed it towards the boy.

“Whoa!" Castiel breathed out instinctively. He’d been at Starlight for more than a month now, but he still wasn’t accustomed to all this monster stuff. He immediately regained his stature and brushed off some of the snow on his school sweater. How can anyone get used to this?, He wondered to himself.

Through context clues, Castiel assumed she was either a demon or some bat-humanesque hybrid. He immediately thought, Why would a bat have horns? He dismissed the idea almost completely and focused his matter back to the snowball that was gearing towards the boy.

It hit him sound. He squatted down, not wanting to use his powers again, and shoveled a ball roughly the size of his fist and threw it back to the girl, hoping it wouldn’t dissolve again. He smiled. When was the last time he’d had a snowball fight? He couldn’t even remember. His childhood felt hundreds of years away, but here he was acting quite childish. For the first time since he came to Mante Carlos, he laughed. The pure oddness of the situation he was in was absolutely hilarious to him.

Naila raised an arm defensively at she was pelted back, laughing as well. Scooping up another handful of snow, she 'returned fire', moving behind the bench she had been sitting on to take cover, ducking down to scoop more snow.

(Sorry for the wait...christmas stuff.)

As he hurled a few more snowballs, he stopped thinking about anything but trying to hit this girl. It was a bit hard, seeing as that all the snow around her melted when it came near her. What an unfair advantage. Even then, the snow wasn’t really bothering him anyways; he was used to much colder, even if his tolerance of cold had started disappearing since he moved to the U.S. in a place where it never snowed. He looked up at the girl and shouted, “It’s a bit late, but what’s your name? I’m Castiel.”

Nailah had eventually dropped the 'heat cloak' as the snowball fight went on, and regretted it, just a little. She herself had NO cold tolerance to speak of. Her powers usually kept her warm. She was starting to realize just how underdressed for this weather she was.

The boy's shout stopped her mid-throw, causing the snowball she had been holding to flop onto the ground. Blinking, she called back; "Nailah."

[BCOLOR=transparent]Castiel leaned down and grabbed another handful of snow and hastily compacted it together. He threw it towards the girl, who was actually getting hit now, and repeated the process. [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]How odd, [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]Castiel though, [/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent]who’d willingly let themselves get hit when they could easily avoid any discomfort at all?[/BCOLOR][BCOLOR=transparent] Then again, he probably would do the same, since he’d always enjoyed snowball fights out in the empty streets. [/BCOLOR]

[BCOLOR=transparent]He hadn’t been at this school for very long, but he felt like he’d seen most students at least once in passing. He had never seen Nailah in the halls or out in the city before. There may’ve been a lot of supernatural people and creatures here, but they were quite easy to recognize because there was so much diversity in the people who lived here; that and the fact that almost everyone on the island was blindingly stunning. “Are you new here?” He asked her.
