Predictable? Yes. Bad idea? No.

Marcus was in the library for the umpteenth time. This time, however, it wasn't for exam study or borrowing books to add to his growing list of possible book-loot. No, he was just here to read.

It had been a while since he had done so, so when he finally opened the book, an older novel about the fantasy lives of medieval Animals (Redwall, for those that didn't get the reference), he felt at peace. Nothing could ruin this for him.

Jii found herself at the library steps for what seemed like the fourth time this morning, a ponderous expression on her face. No matter how hard she tried she simply couldn't seem to grasp the layout of this new place, and sincerely doubted she would be able to of her own accord. Deciding the best option was likely to find somebody inside who would help her in this regard, she took a deep breath and finally tiptoed up to the door.

Once inside, she was in awe of the size of this place, and the sheer volume of books all around. Her mouth agape, she started running through the different shelves just to try and take it all in, before finally remembering why she had come in here. Obviously not well-versed in library etiquette, she abruptly and in a most decidedly outside voice called out a hopeful "Heya! Can anybody help me find my way around!?" Getting a few scowls right away, she grimaced and decided to not say anything else, and began lightly padding around the various areas in search of a helper.

oh boy, here we go. Marcus thought.

The distraction had to be a new student. What else could it be? He turned his head to look at the source of the noise. Was it a Goblin? Gremlin? Regardless, it seemed they needed help. No, it was not his responsibility, there were plenty of students that had been here longer than he did.

Putting the newcomer out of his head, he looked back at his book and tried to ignore them walking towards him.

Jii had continued to get nasty glares from everybody, and was becoming increasingly flustered as she walked through the library. She was about ready to give up on asking for help here when she set her eyes on a student who was sat apart from everybody, an old looking tome in his hands. She padded over to him as quietly as she could, and gave a gentle tap on his arm. "Umm, excuse me, but I was wondering if you could maybe help me out in navigating this place? I'm really lost..."

Of course she went to him. Oh well, time to play the navigator. Clearing his throat and closing his book, Marcus turned his upper body to face the girl. "Yeah, sure. Where do you need to go?"

He obviously wasn't going to get through much more of the book today, so he began to pack up his stuff, but kept the book he was reading under his arm. He was friendly with the librarians, but they would get angry if he tried to take a book without borrowing it first.

Though he was clearly trying to be as polite as possible, Jii could sense that this stranger was a bit annoyed at her, presumably on her intrusion on his reading time. "O-oh, um, sorry for interrupting...I was just sort of hoping you'd be able to show me to the cafeteria? I think lunch already started." She looked down at her feet after every few words, an expression of obvious embarrassment on her face. "I'm kind of awful at remembering directions and stuff."

Great, now she was embarrassed. "Oh, n-no it's okay." Marcus waved his hands in front of him. "It's really okay."

Is it lunch already? Marcus realized, looking at his watch. He completely lost track of time. Maybe it was for the best that she came to him.

"So the cafeteria, eh?" It wasn't far, so if he wouldn't be going too far out of his way. Moving over to the shelves, he put the tome under his arm back on the shelf. "Were you looking for the cafeteria long, or was it just a new decision considering the time?"

She rubbed the back of her neck, clearly flustered. "Umm, well, I've been looking for about twenty-five minutes. My math teacher suggested a leave a bit early in case I got lost, but...here I am." She still was consistently looking down at her feet, both due to anxiety as well as the library's carpeting feeling quite odd on the her bare soles. "I'd really appreciate the escort, if it really wouldn't be too much trouble. Oh, um, I'm Jii, by the way."

Wow, she really must be bad with directions to not realize she was just one building over for twenty minutes. "Well, their plan made sense. come on, I'll take you there."

Marcus began to lead her to the library entrance, dodging the more glares from the people still annoyed at Jii. She keeps looking down at her feet, He observed. Was it the missing shoes? "No trouble at all. I'm Marcus, nice to meet you, Jii."

Once they were outside the door, he pointed to a nearby building approximately 12 feet from them. "That's our Destination, the Cafeteria. I guess you just took a wrong turn."

Jii's face went slightly pale when Marcus gestured to the building directly outside of the library. She lightly smacked her forehead with a palm, shaking her head in disbelief. "I knew I was bad at finding my way around but now I just feel plain stupid. I guess we should hurry though, if we want to actually have time to eat." Going through the cafeteria door, her eyes widened at the sheer volume of people in there. Ears flattening a bit at the noise, she looked back to Marcus and gave a small smile. "Well, thanks for showing me here, I really appreciate it. I can get out of your hair now, but um...if you want to, we could eat together?"
