"I don't mean to sound rude, but... how does the lovers thing work? Would most adults be into that? You haven't -- not with --- not with kids, right?" Shay couldn't help her disgusted look. The idea of kissing still wasn't attractive to her. Some twelve-year-olds were more interested in that than her. Sure, she'd thought about some of it before, but...
"You wouldn't even have --" her eyes darted down to the top of the table, cutting herself off. No. She wasn't going there. "Was the thing that turned you into a vampire a lover? Was that just common when you were actually twelve? Didn't people used to get married then?"
Did that mean he'd actually... -- With a girl or guy? Like he did the do? Shay didn't know whether to be morbidly curious or utterly grossed out.
"I-Uh." He wasn't sure how to answer any of it. He had totally forgotten that she was actually 12, unlike him. He should have filtered some of his words, as the process of trying to explain this would be a challenging one. He didn't want to scar the poor girl, but nor did he want to lie to her about what would eventually happen to her too.
"It's like, having a best friend that you kiss and hug and hold hands and do, other things with." The thought even made him cringe a bit, as it had been so long since he had even thought of what a lover was. "It's someone you love, but not just as a friend. You'll get it later on, or maybe if someone else explains it." Someone that wouldn't be him, who now sounded like a lost puppy whining. "It was someone a bit older than me." His lover had been... Older, but he wasn't going to share that detail with her. Not now.
"He was the one that turned me into a vampire, yes." He double blinked as he had said he, instead of they or she, which may even confuse her more. He chuckled at the next comment though. "N-No it wasn't common to get turned into a vampire by someone." He shook his head. "I mean maybe we would have, someday. We were in love, but, he died sadly."

Then Shay had to wonder how they had gotten here? They were jumping all over the place. Hell, it was giving her whiplash.
He laughed the loudest he had in a long time. A huge roaring laugh that made most of the other people in his shop gasp and look over at. "You crack me up Shay." He said as he wiped his eyes, as a few tears of laughter had escaped him. "I haven't had a lover since... well 40 years. Not since I was in my seventies." It felt weird to say such a thing.
"But no, I'm not taking advantage, nor did I, of pedophiles. What we had was very consensual and there wasn't that big of an age gap." He nodded, but then realized that it would most likely be his last relationship. "But then again, now most people won't look at me like that so." Monochrome shrugged his shoulders.

"You're not as much of a jerk when you let down your guard a little," Shay commented, watching as he gave a gaudy bought of laughter at her questions. Shay wasn't offended. Not really. "You're almost endearing."
It was getting late, and while Shay may not have wanted to, she had to leave soon. She had decided by this point in their conversation that she liked this place, and she liked Monochrome, even if he came off prickly as a cactus.
"You must get lonely. I would get lonely if I were you." She looked up to the ceiling, contemplative. "I have to go home soon. It's getting late."
"I'm always a jerk, little missy. I just was nice enough to clue you in about my shitty life is all." The comment was straightforward and hard hitting for sure, but it was as much kindness she was going to get at this stage. "I'd say the same to you, but that would make me too soft." He smirked at her gently, as even though she was young, he liked the spark she carried with her.
He wasn't disheartened when he told her he had to go, but yes, after she left, he would go back to being lonely. That was obvious. He had a new roommate, Eliana, that he could most likely bug until she got sick of him, so that would leave him a little less lonely. At least he would have something interesting to tell her if she asked.
"Yeah, I wouldn't want to send you off in the middle of the night, this place is dangerous." He said as he stood, quickly running over to his small pastry area. He grabbed her a medium sized raspberry croissant, for the way home. As he set it in front of her, he wondered if she liked raspberry. He shook his head though, as he didn't really care. "I mean, considering my tea surprise was shitty for you, at least have this." He grunted at how nice he was being. "I still have to close up the shop and shit so I can't come with you, but yeah." He paused at looked away. "I'll try for you not to hate my tea if you come back."

Maybe it was because he'd opened up, or because of the undertone of kindness in his voice, but Shay was having a hard time being offended by the nickname he'd deemed for her, or the way he was trying to act all harsh. Didn't he know it was too late for that?
On a personal level, Shay didn't know Monochrome well, of course, but she was pretty sure by his previous attitude toward her, that giving away a pastry wasn't common for him. She wouldn't say anything as she stood slowly and held the treat tight. "I do deserve payment for my winning. I will eat this as a winner on my way home."
She rose the snack in the air, like she was toasting to him, before taking a large bit of it as smugly as she could muster. It was hard to look dignified when raspberry filly was smeared all over your face. You win some you lose some.
Next, Shay turned and made a stiff walk for outside, half marching comically as she did so.
"Your winning?" He scoffed as he didn't think that was the right term to use. Yes, they had went over that she had still won the, weird battle between them, but the yummy treat wasn't supposed to be her victory treat, but he wouldn't act on that comment. It didn't concern him, as he had given it her and it was now hers to claim however she wanted.
He wasn't sure how to react when the center of the treat was all over her face. He wanted to laugh, or look away, maybe even wipe it off like some parent would. He did none of it, instead settling for an awkward grin and a almost unnoticeable wave to the girl. At the back of his mind, he felt some weird emotion as he watched her leave. ~~
