Laken sat at the edge of the lake, one leg dangled over the side of the earth and a bare foot submerged in the cool dark water. His black hair danced behind him in the cool breeze and his red eyes reflected the moon. His entire being was a captivating sight, if not a strange one. It wasn't often that you saw a teenage boy sitting partially in the water when it was nearly midnight. But then, there were a lot of things at this school that were not an average sight. Like werewolves, vampires, and students with wings...oh my.
Laken smoothed back his hair and let out a chuckle at the irony to the entire situation. He had always been drawn to the water. Much like the rest of his family but he was particularly drawn to lakes like his name meaning "From the lake". It was on full moon nights like these that he chose to reflect on his life. His mother and father chose not to raise him, his sister and the townspeople feared him. Only his grandparents and other sister had truly loved him...and where had that gotten him? Thrown into a school with strangers. Not that he didn't like the school. He thought it was beautiful...and the lax curfew and the lake being so near by provided interesting distractions...but he just wasn't sure if he could connect with the students here...
