"And yours," Shay added. The contact was nice. Not having to force or beg for it. Just given freely, no bad feelings against one and other. "I like you, I'm not going to get squicked if you're attracted to me. I've made a lot of unhealthy decisions in life, but you aren't one of them.

"Eugene Fitzherbert. Yup. That is an apt comparison. But I'm no Rapunzel -- not nice enough. I'd be Megara." Shay grinned, ear-to-ear and lowered her voice to a conspicuous whisper, "or Gothel."

No one could have ruined this moment. Not Eloise or Emery. Nor Logan or Nick. Not a single person. If only because Shay were too stubborn to let them destroy her happiness. They didn't deserve that power.

Thinking on it, Shay said, "I told Mia I liked you. So, I guess she'd figure it out. But then, maybe not. I don't think you know her? She's the pregnant lady with the red hair. Dating Dorian."

Fitz broke out into a grin and leaned back so he could get a better look at Shay. He wasn't one of her unhealthy life decisions? That was almost a laugh, but it hit kinda hard too. These other blokes Shay had had eyes for, they must be really bad news.
He wouldn't let any kind of discomfort show though, no matter how small it might be.

Her conspiratorial whispering was cute. Made him smile a bit wider. Fitz just shrugged and scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Ne'er really been into blondes meself. So Ah guess tha' works out fer ye, aye?"

"And Ah've seen ye with 'er, aye. Seems like a right nice friend t'ave. If ye wan' 'er to know, lemme know so Ah'm aware o' who's in th' loop."

Shay released him and stepped back to peer up into the darkened sky, barely shot through with pinks and orange from the setting sun. She huffed. "I've always been into redheads. And smart asses. Two for. And golden eyes -- which, how do you have those? I didn't think normal humans could. I've never seen it before."

Waiting for a reply, Shay spun around slowly, teetering and falling on her ass from the alcohol. She laid back on the ground laughing, breathless. "Shit. I think it's going to rain. What are the chances we're struck by lightning?"

"Gold eyes. Huh. Ah always considered 'em to be a light 'azel 'r somethin'. Who knows? Maybe somewhere down th' line, Ah really do belong 'ere."

Fitz kinda jerked forward when he saw Shay fall, but her laughter made him pause. She wasn't hurt. He let out a sigh and shook his head before sliding down onto the ground with her.

He lay beside her and took a glance up at the sky as well. "Well now tha' ye asked, it's one 'undred percent. Pretty sure tha's 'ow tha' works."

Shay listened for the roar of thunder in the background but heard none. The clouds above had turned gray and full, threatening to spill.

"Well, fuck. If I didn't have cool powers before I will now. That's what superhero movies and shit say."

Shay reached out and took his hand, played with his fingers, moving them and watching with interest as if this would tell her some secret. "You do belong here. That's why you're here.

"Now, I'd say pass me another drink, buuut I can't go home until I sober up and even then Klaus or Vito might notice." Shay groaned comically, wiping bangs from her face as the first sign of lightning struck in the background, too far away for the clash of thunder to be heard where they were.

"Mob parents are ridiculously perceptive. Which is why it's surprising I could get away with so much. School is almost a lifesaver. You know everyone screws in those empty classrooms?"

Fitz turned so that he was facing more towards Shay, eyes flitting over her face, posture, everything. Making notes about how she was carrying herself. She seemed a lot more relaxed than before, and that in turn relaxed Fitz.
"Ah figured. Don' want yer dads comin' after me fer gettin' their daughter drunk an' who knows wot other scandalous things?"

Fitz pulled forward, so that he was more or less leaning over Shay's face, looking down at her. There she was again, mentioning sex. Was she hinting?
"Aye lass. Ah know people screw in the classrooms. S'been 'appenin' since classrooms existed. Did it a few times meself back afore 'ere."

He rocked his jaw a bit, mulling over the question in his head. "Can Ah kiss ye, maybe? Or's tha' too fast, too sudden?"

Shay peered at Derry when he leaned over her, blocking her view of the sky and the first seen stars. Her smile was a little more nervous. "Why would you do that if you didn't have to? Maybe I'm biased because it's a boring spot for me by now."

And then Derry was asking to kiss her. Asking to kiss her. What a new experience that was, from being grabbed or pushed around. It made her sick to think about past experiences compared to this.

"No. I mean, yes. No to the too fast thing. It's not too fast--" Before she began to ramble, Shay growled a little at her awkwardness and leaned up to meet him half way in an almost too soft kiss.

Fitz leaned down and met Shay's lips. The kiss was soft and a little awkward. Like neither of them had done it before.
There wasn't really any electricity, like what they described in cheesy romance books. It was a kiss, and a pretty chaste one compared to what both of them had probably experienced in the past.

But it was nice, in its own way. A different kind of kiss for a different kind of relationship.

Pulling back from it, Fitz smiled again and nodded once. He started to say something.
The rain came down without warning, just sheets of water where there had been open sky before.

"Shite!" Fitz laughed, helping Shay to her feet and pulling off his jacket to give to her. It was already soaked, but maybe it would help a little bit? "Mother Nature sure as 'ell knows 'ow to ruin a moment, aye?"

"Let's maybe get out o' the waterworks afore we decide wot we're doin' next. Don't worry bout th' ale. Ah'll come back fer it later."

Shay wondered if she was being too chaste. Too worried she might ruin things by moving too quickly. There wasn't a whole hell of a lot of time to consider her options before Fitz had pulled back and the rain came down. She'd forgotten the possibility of the weather.

"Please, rain is fun! Mother nature is trying to give us a romantic moment," Shay said with a laugh, pulling his jacket tight over her shoulders. It didn't help with staying dry, but the weight of the material settled her.

Shay looked around, spotting a gray door and pointed to it. "Safer than climbing down the industrial ladder again," she said and headed toward it.

Before trying the handle, Shay turned and stood on her toes, pulling Fitz down by the collar of his shirt to give him a real kiss. Something both her heart and body were into. A fixed mistake, really. This was the kiss she should have given him in the first place.

Afterward, she opened the door with surprising ease and slipped into the dark stairwell. The inside was in disarray with water damage from the Kyros Tsunami that had happened months ago. It had been abandoned. From what Shay could see with limited light it was some type of care facility. She could feel the cold touch of spirits but didn't see any.

As the two of them approached the door, Fitz was already pulling out the tiny flashlight he carried with him for just such occasions. "Ah'll get the-"

But Fitz was cut off by his head being forcibly pulled down and met with a second kiss. This one was not chaste, and he couldn't help but lean into it a bit before Shay broke it off. Fitz let out a huff and flashed a grin at her.

Once inside, he clicked on his light and looked around the staircase. There was water damage everywhere, like it had gotten hit with a hell of a storm. He chuckled, rolling his eyes a bit as he took the stairs down slowly.
"O' course our first, uh, date would be in a creepy bombed out 'ospital."
