It was August.

Mary didn't really like August. In fact, she had a peculiar hatred for it. It was a time when a lot of new students started appearing on campus. She wished it would start getting cooler so the fall decor would be brought out, and the fall activities, the holidays, the food... Mary loved Autumn.

She just hated August.

So it was to the empty rooms she fled, wandering the halls in a complete invisible state. The new students generally didn't come up here, and she was glad of that. Being a bit older made her some sort of role model. She didn't like that. Older, nice, role model... not so nice. Mary didn't even like being looked at for too long.

So now, she was invisible, and exploring the rooms she had already explored a hundred times over. There was always something new to be found.

James had settled into the academy rather nicely. He was among people like him and that made him comfortable. Not comfortable to admit that he killed his parents and feels no regret. But still comfortable.

So he had taken to wandering the empty rooms. He liked it here. It felt nice, to be in such a creepy, empty space. He liked it. He has no idea what these rooms held. He just enjoys watching the occasional wire melt in the walls as the damage builds up current.

He liked being up here with his electrovision active. It gave him a clear view of anyone trying to approach him, making it impossible for anyone to watch him sit on his own and play with a battery, making sparks jump between his fingers, listening to the crackling.

He also enjoyed how much static was up here, the dust retaining every electron. And he could just make more. His personal, private, good feel space.

So it was no surprise that when someone turned up while he was about to shock himself, he spun round defensively.

"It's medicinal before you ask." James turned his electrovision off to see nothing.

"And make yourself visible."

Mary took her time peeking into every dusty old room. There was something alluring about the dust floating through the sunlight and the broken desks. Empty rooms and silence gave her some peace.

So she was surprised to alight upon a student playing with something in his hands. After peering at it for a moment, Mary assumed it was some sort of battery.

Mary was even more surprised when he spun around. But.. She was invisible?! She shifted and silenced her movements completely, stirring some dust off the floor. He said something about medicine, but when he commanded her to reappear, Mary backed slowly out of the door (so as not to disturb more dust and give herself away) and into the hallway.

"I can still see you... Come out of your invisibility and explain why you are spying on me." James followed her with his eyes, waiting to see her reappear. He could sense the small amount of electricity in her nervous system here, making her stick out bright yellow against a darkened background.

"Come on. Before I zap you." James hated the idea that he was being spied on. Of all things it annoyed him so much. He would never get peace knowing that should could turn invisible.

But then James began to think of how useful it would be. To get into places unseen. Shops, meetings, government buildings. If he ever got round to starting his rebellion, he made a note to recruit her first, as she would be very valuable.

Maybe he was bluffing. Maybe he just heard her peek in and... maybe... No, definitely not, he was following her with his eyes. Mary froze. If she couldn't get invisible and hide herself, what use was she? Her ultimate defense came crashing down. She'd never felt so vulnerable.

At the treat of zapping, Mary promptly reappeared. She watched the zappy boy with wide eyes, swallowing hard. She was expected to answer now, right?

"I-I wasn't spying." She felt like she had a strong start in the truth, but her throat went dry and she realized how tall and intimidating this guy looked. She was never one for confrontation.

She dared a step back, "I was just, uhm, walking around."

"I'm James, nice to meet you." James held out his hand. Now that he could see her normally he was happy. He just didn't like the idea that she was watching him without being able to see her.

"I'm not gonna hurt you, cause you could get me in decent amounts of trouble, and I have grown a hatred of prison after spending 4 years there." James was being serious. He didn't want to go back to prison. Be it juvie or normal prison, he was not going back. It still haunted him. Being the freak in amongst those society didn't want.

"Invisibility is neat trick on an off note. However you still possess a nervous system, which runs on bioelectric pulses. That means no matter how invisible you are, I can see you. Still a good ability. Best place you've ever snuck into?" James didn't even wait for her to shake his hand in greeting before he got into that topic.

Mary looked from the boy to his hand, hand twitching but not reaching up to grip his. What if he still wanted to shock her? He was being nice all of the sudden. It was... suspicious. But she couldn't run, he'd be able to see her when she disappeared. She mentally cursed.

"Mary. I'm Mary."

She took another step back as he rattled off the reason for not hurting her. Prison? Four years?! As a kid?? She was in the hallway with a killer or something. Mary felt her throat go dry again. What if he was just saying that but decided to kill her anyway?

"Uhm. O... kay." Mary said softly, eyeing him over. Bioelectric what? She had no clue what he was talking about. Oh, wait, he just asked her another question! Shit!

"Uh.. off campus?" She bit her lip. That was a lie. She'd never done that.

"Never thought about sneaking round the White House? Pentagon? Houses Of Parliament? Kremlin? Some place of military of government significance?" James put his hand down when he could tell she wouldn't do it. He was scaring her. That much was clear.

"The prison thing, that was misunderstanding. With my powers, it's kinda hard not to electrocute people to death. And it was an accident, an unfortunate, necessary one." James was open with the fact he had killed his parents. It was the ones he had killed in prison that mattered more. And he wasn't so open with that.

He thought back to the time he spent in his rubber cell, and laughed. They had used glow lights in his room instead of normal lights. A special cell, just for him. And that pretty roommate. She was nice. He didn't know why she was in there until he killed her. That had been just a case of sheer anger, he had managed to take the bioelectric current in her nervous system and barrage her with pain signals, before her heart gave out in sheer pain.

"N-No..." Marine couldn't ever remember a time where she wanted to sneak into a place that could get her into a lot of trouble. She wanted to be invisible to the world, not... in the middle of affairs she had no right to muddle with.

It wasn't until he started talking about prison and accidents. An unfortunate, necessary accident.. Did one of those cancel out the other, or something? She stared at him wide-eyed, legitimately wondering how far she could make if if she started running now.

And then he started laughing. Mary took another step back, and ran into the wall. Oh man. It was the hallway or the window. How high up were they? Could she take a fall from this height?

"Can I ask a quick question?" James saw her getting nervous, and thought it was rather amusing. He wasn't nervous in the slightest. He enjoyed the power that being an ex-convict brought. It induced fear in otherwise unfazed people.

"How much do you hate humans? On a scale of 1-10, 10 being pure hatred, 1 being indifference." James wanted to evaluate her as a potential ally to his plan. He would start a revolution here. There were tons of underpowered people, and he needed to simply appeal to them. To give them a leader to follow.

His plan wasn't complex. No policeman would fight someone who could use electricity as a weapon, or an invisible girl. It was just too difficult.
