"Alright, lets go." he said. They searched for the garage and found a luxury sedan parked in it, better than driving the bulky truck. Henry opened the door for Sarah, before getting in and setting them on course for some food. After a while they began driving through the more red light sections of the city, when Henry asked a question.

"If I may Miss, when I inquired about my employers asking me to monitor you, you mentioned passing out once. Is there some medical condition I should know about?" Henry asked as he drove.

Sarah followed Henry out to the garage and got into the luxury sedan he had picked out. Again, all this seemed a bit much but it was still nice to have. Her bosses were starting to spoil her now.

She remained silent throughout the trip until Henry asked her about any conditions. Waving her had dismissively, she said, "I was just overworked. I sometimes get too absorbed that I lose track of time. I've been told before that I worked for over a week straight, but I'll be honest, I didn't remember any of it."

"Well, nice to know you have an astounding work ethic. If I may say, however, that doesn't sound very good for your health." he said. Eventually they exited the red light district and parked in a quaint looking diner that took up a small two-story brick building.

"They have tables on both the first and second floor, just go ahead and pick a spot, a waitress will be by shortly." he said as he removed his helmut and mask. Once Sarah picked a seat, they would find the menus were filled with modest dishes from home-made soup recipes and salad mixes, steaks, burgers, sausages, even some seafood options like shrimp and trout. They even had fried kalamari as an appetizer. When the waitress arrived Henry would order two bratwurst sausages, fried kalamari, some baked fries, and a soda.

Always with the lectures on health. If she hadn't come to expect it from everyone she met, she would have snapped back, but this conversation had happened too many times, and she was, frankly, tired of it. She understood that it was out of concern, which made it harder to be mad at someone. A simple, dismissive shrug was all she replied with, preferring not to further this conversation.

With a nod to Henry, she entered the restaurant, which was sparsely populated with patrons. If there were curious looks as the two of them entered, she didn't notice. Sarah chose to sit at the second floor, by the windows that connected to the balcony. Since she was afforded the time to be outside, she might as well get a good view. After Henry ordered, the waitress turned to Sarah. She ordered beef stew, chicken fillet, and also some fried calamari. For her drink, she just asked for some coffee.

Henry sipped at his soda as they waited for their food to arrive. He decided he may as well try to learn more about his charge while he had the time.

"So what did you do before joining our clients? Assuming you're able to talk about that. You got any family?" he asked.

A few years ago, those questions would have caused her to dump her hot coffee on Henry and yell. It was a traumatic experience, and having all that crash back into her would have sent her on a frenzy. But now, she felt it only a minor pang of pain, like a mosquito digging into her neck.

Her cup momentarily froze on its way to her lips for a split second before she continued on to sip her coffee. Looking into her cup to see her reflection, she said, "I was accepting jobs from anyone who sought out my help. Basically, I did the same thing I do now. I get a description of what they want, I make it into something they could use."

Pausing to take another sip, she continued, "I had a caring mother, and a father I would love to nag on, but I still loved him. They were supportive people, got me what I needed to start out." It was scary how easily she could talk about all this, despite knowing that what had happened was all her fault. "I know you told me a little something about yourself already, but I'd like to know more before silence sets in."

Henry could tell he must have struck a nerve, his experience in police interrogations made it easy, he decided he wouldn't push further than what she wanted to explain.

"Well, you already know i'm from a different timeline, when I left it was the year, oh, 1966. My timeline apparently diverged around 1943, when an alien collective invaded the planet, conquered it in a matter of weeks. When they did they blasted to hell anywhere we had troops stationed, and around that time that meant Germany got turned into a crater. The aliens, being a bunch of smart scheisse, rounded up every remaining German speaker on the planet and told us that we could either serve as their enforcers, or die. Me and and my family were mostly German Americans, we chose life. I joined when I was old enough, and thats how I got the gear you see me with today." he said.

She could have been listening with interest, or none at all. She didn't reveal much as she nodded in acknowledgement. Scrutinizing the gear when it was brought up, she could tell there was something off about it. Something just didn't belong. She was still skeptical about the whole thing, and the whole mythical creatures existing thing. She had to admit, there were possibilities that all this could be real. But ultimately, it was in the interest of not making enemies with the mercenary that she decided to take his word for it. There was plenty of time to prove or disprove everything.

"Did you see what those aliens look like?"

"A few times, they hadn't really shown themselves much after the war. Occasionally you'd see one of their gunships when we raided a resistance safe house, or a war machine when the rebels pushed an objective, every once in a while we'd be inspected by a delegate. But they weren't all one race, we'd see a few different species. I don't know how many different species there are but they were a collective of them, my guess was they were mostly other conquered species, don't know if I've ever met the master species or not. They likely didn't show themselves much because they wanted us to pacify the planet first before they show up in bulk. That's why they had us enforcers, took technology the Germans used during the world war, and supplemented it with alien tech to remove some of the drawbacks. Not too much so that we could turn on them, but enough so that any resistance is gonna be severely outmatched."

"Sounds like it would make a great movie. Aliens, forced labor and the Germans are on the receiving end of it, and it takes place in the World War 2 era. The Americans would eat that right up," she mused, sipping coffee. "No offense, of course."

She pondered for a moment and thought about the methods this 'master species' were applying. It made sense, but intentionally weakening their lackeys' potentials just seemed counter productive to her. Why not just use mind control? Actually, now that she thought about it, if that control fails, then they'd have a lot of problems.
