"Eh, I've heard worse. And not all of us worked, the elderly and young didn't have to work. Besides, we weren't put in labor camps, they just liked to keep all the languages seperate, made it harder for resistance forces to coordinate across sectors. I actually had to keep my fluency of English a secret. I acted as an inside man for the English resistance, providing info and translating reports when I could. But I never did anything to blow my cover, if I was told to raid a rebel safe house, I'd do it, else the resistance would have no-one in the enforcers. I prioritized keeping my cover above all else, but it cost me dearly."

"I'd expect so. I think I know why they chose you to be my bodyguard." It was an easy way to end it there. Besides, their food was already coming in, starting with the appetizer, the fried squid, or 'calamari' as the people in cuisine call it. The waitress gave them a bow and said that the rest of their food will be there in five minutes.

The fried calamari came small enough that one could eat them with either a small fork provided with the dishes or by hand if one preffered. Henry poured some salt onto his before using the small fork to take a few bites. It was similar to normal fish but slightly chewier, offset by the light crunch provided by the frying.

"And why would that be?" he asked. His employers hadn't told him much other than the job and how he would get paid.

Sarah had always preferred to taste the food first before changing the flavor with condiments or seasonings. And to her, the calamari was just right for her tastes. She made use of the forks since cleaning her prosthetics from food stuffs was tedious at times, especially if they got into the joints.

She didn't look up when she explained why she thought the organization would pick him. "You're willing to sacrifice. Probably thought you'd take every bullet for me."

Heh, yeah, he supposed that was a good observation, though many days he wondered if he had sacrificed too much.

"Well, that may be true enough, but I can think of another reason they hired me. If you're as important to them as you sound, then a good reason could simply be that it's a good idea for you to have a bodyguard in a place like this." Henry said, as he alternated between speaking and eating.

"One thing I want to make clear is that this city is safe for the most part, the police force here is made of the same kinds of people that live here and they do a pretty decent job of keeping the peace. But that means our enemies are as well. You make an enemy around here it could be anything from a guy who rips apart cars with his mind to a chinese dragon goddess who's been doing this dance for centuries. When you invite every monster within several hundred lightyears from here, you're bound to pick up a few actual monsters in the mix. Nearly everyone here is a bomb or a one man army. Everyone here is a monster from myths, legends and science-fiction, including us. The only difference is that some of them think twice about killing people. And some don't."

"Not so different than humans then..." she added. It wasn't just a pessimistic take, but an observation. Some humans are monsters, some humans are saints, and the rest are somewhere in between.

She was half-way done with her food when she spoke up once again. "It just seems odd to me that they'd trust anyone outside the organization. But then again, I'm always out of the loop when it comes to who we worked with."

Sarah remained silent after that, except when Henry would ask her something. She was just trying to comprehend what this place actually was. Surely things like these creatures from myths and legends couldn't possibly be real, right? This would need some looking into.
