ANGELO GENOVESE

Oh. In a way, Angelo had known. He'd heard the story, even if Broen hadn't said it quite so explicitly. He'd been able to read between the lines.

But he hadn't wanted to believe it. He hadn't want to accept that Broen was, at least to his world, dead.

"You can make a life here," Angelo said, trying to sound hopeful. "Lots of people do. People who don't know anyone, really. And maybe someone here can help you get back to them."

It had worked for Angelo, but that had been very different circumstances.

"It's really... up to you, I guess. What you want to try and do."

"Yeah. That's fine. I guess I'll make it up as I go. We were always good at that. Even the tats were an impulse decision."

Broen held up a hand and went to put his helmet back on. It was definitely based on Gallant's, design-wise but it was also decidedly Broen's aesthetic. Punkish, anti-authoritarian, practical.
"Sorry, don't have a cell phone yet. So I gotta do all my notes in this for now. Pain in the ass, this thing doesn't wick sweat for shit. Just making a note of what you said, about who's here."

"Oh right. One other difference between you and my Angelo. He didn't just know people's names. What's that about?"

ANGELO GENOVESE

"Gultha quirk," Angelo explained. "I know people's names and what kind of powers they're packing, which is pretty useful as a skill. I picked up a few other tricks from the island while I was here, but that one was because the Gultha—"

You could practically hear the record scratch in Angelo's head.

"Wait, hold on, the tats?"

Broen almost said the words 'you don't have a Defiant tattoo' but paused and thought about it for a moment. Oh wait, that made sense. He kind of laughed and started rolling up his sleeve. "That makes sense. I kind of bullied the team into getting them in the first place."

It was an inner elbow tattoo, in the shape of a stylized capital D vaguely shaped like an arrow. It was overlaid with another arrow, pointing the opposite direction. "It was a solidarity thing. And they have micro code built into the ink. If you scan it with a QR code, it would let you call the direct Sentinel comm line."

ANGELO GENOVESE

A tattoo. They all had tattoos? A part of him desperately wanted that, but a part of him... well.

"All I can think is that my dad must have flipped when he saw it," Angelo said with a small laugh. His dad... probably not a tattoo guy, to say the least. Not that Angelo had ever actually asked.

"But the code thing is neat," he adds, looking the tattoo over. "A good practical application of something that's normally for aesthetic purposes."

Okay, maybe he was focusing on the wrong things.

"I should probably let everyone else know you're here, really."

"Right," he said, rolling his sleeve back down. The code application wasn't really useful here, but it had been a good idea at the time.

"And he did. You were the last one to convince, obviously. But I paid for them out of my Foundation salary after we convinced you that it was practical and showed solidarity."

Broen really wasn't sure how he felt about that. He was still unpacking a lot and he didn't know if he could handle a deluge of familiar but not faces coming to gawk at him.

"Sure. Do what you need to do," he finally said with a shrug. "But tell them to give me some fuckin space, aight? I don't need people knocking on my door at all times of the night like the fuckin Mormons."

ANGELO GENOVESE

The more Angelo thought about it, the more it weighed on him. He probably... Broen was probably expecting a team united. But the fact was that most of them had drifted. Rory was gone, cutting them all off. Janelle had her own friends, her own social life. Travis was around, and so were Broen, but the team wasn't a team united anymore.

"I'll let them know just in case they see you in the streets or something," Angelo said, hesitating for a long moment. "It's fine if you'd prefer I give you space too, you know. I know what it's like to... to be compared to someone else. There's at least two other Angelo's on this island now."

Broen wasn't sure what he wanted, to be honest. It was so nice seeing a familiar face, someone who he had grown to trust and care for a lot. But he also knew that this was not his Angelo. It would be weird to expect any kind of emotional support from someone who ostensibly had never met him. Even if this Angelo was friends with his ow Broen, they had forged that relationship under their own circumstances. He couldn't just... co-opt that.

"Yeah, I'll think about it. I don't wanna just flat out say 'stay the hell away from me,' but at least for now... I probably just wanna get settled. Get both feet firmly on the ground and then figure out where I want to go from there."

He almost wanted to ask about the two other Angelos but he figured that that could be a talk for another time. Leaning forward again, Broen put his hand on Angelo's shoulder and gave him a squeeze and a smile. "Thanks for coming out though. You're as good a man as the Angelo that I knew, coming to check on someone from home that you might not even know. If you need anything, I'm still in head busting shape, so don't hesitate to give me a ring."

ANGELO GENOVESE

Angelo's stomach did a little flip when Broen--not his Broen, he reminded himself--squeezed his shoulder, showering him in compliments.

It probably shouldn't have. He probably shouldn't have cared. But compliments from people on the team had always meant a lot to him, and even if Broen wasn't technically part of the team, his brain hadn't quite figured that out.

Plus, you know, it was Broen.

"I'll see you around," Angelo said, and then, after giving it a second thought, reached out to pluck something out of the air. He hadn't planned on using his powers more in front of Broen, but he literally didn't carry a pen and paper, so he'd had to grab it from his pocket dimension, writing down his number before holding it out for Broen to take.

"If you need anything, give me a call."

Broen raised an eyebrow. Okay, that was new too. This Angelo had a few interesting tricks up his sleeve, and it might bear in mind to know what those were. He snagged the paper and flashed his teeth - another difference, they were markedly straighter and more purposefully whitened than the other Broen's - at Angelo with a grin.

"Figures you'd have some nerd power like summoning something to take notes on. I'll give you a call when I'm settled. Maybe - well, I dunno if you'd wanna hang out with another shithead like me. But it'd be nice to have someone to hang with once I'm up and running again."

This was awkward for him, but he wasn't showing it much. Staring awkward situations in the face and not flinching was one of his strong suits after all. "Thanks again for coming out. Have a good one, Angelo."
