Fweiu made an executive decision. She would allow herself to deflect his attacks, rather than just dodging them. Like this was something closer to a real fight.

So this time when Roldan rushed forward, she caught him. Using her longer armspan and his momentum to her advantage, she turned and tossed him away.

"The bigger they are, the more you need to respect their reach." She grinned. "Right?" Fweiu didn't actually know the idiom.

"Something like that," he said with a laugh. Roldan got up and brushed himself off. He took a sort of boxing stance and motioned for Fweiu to come at him. If she was making the attacks, he could at least watch her movements and dodge so that he could get in close enough to try getting some hits in. He had to be careful though; he was pretty sure that any heat he let off could seriously injure Fweiu. And that wasn't the point of all of this.

Fweiu ran up to him - but when she started getting closer, she fell into something like a boxer's stance. Her palms were facing outwards, her fingers bent, almost as though she was a human pretending to have claws.

Soon, though, she might not have to pretend. The thought made her smile, but it was fleeting.

Staying light on her feet, she strafed around him a bit, forcing him to turn around to stay facing her. "I actually feel faster and stronger than I used to," she remarked.

And then she would explode forward. She wouldn't do anything flashy, just efficient, precise strikes and low kicks. Some of those strikes would hospitalize a normal man. Fweiu didn't know her own strength yet.

"Yeah, that'll happen when you put a more defined musculature like our dragon forms' on a human frame. It's pretty damn cool."

Roldan was ready, his own muscles shifted to be stronger than his human form. He leapt to the side, dodging the first of Fweiu's attacks. But only barely. The next attack though was definitely going to hit him if he didn't do something more drastic.

So Roldan looked directly at the ground, slightly behind himself. He inhaled and then he roared, sending out a powerful shotgun blast of heat, scorching the ground and sending himself flying. He realized too late he might have hurt Fweiu if his blast hit her, and he cursed out loud as he landed hard, rolling across the ground.

"Shit, I'm sorry."

As soon as she realized what was happening, she jumped away and reverted to her human form. Burnt human flesh would be easier to heal than melted dragon scales. Her human form was better at absorbing the heat, and she only came away with a few patches of red skin.

Fweiu was displeased, but not for the reasons Roldan thought. "It's fine if it doesn't happen again. I think i proved how well I can move like that. But you should apologize to your family." She rolled onto her back and kipped up. "Or whoever taught you hand-to-hand combat. What was all that jumping away from me? You were like a frightened animal." She laughed twice, and went back to looking dead serious.

Roldan huffed, and looked at Fweiu kind of horrified until he got the joke. Then he cursed and shook his head. "I mean. My mother always told me not to hit a beautiful...."

He laughed, waving his hand dismissively. "Frankly, I think I rely on my heat too much. Even at low levels, it gives me an edge against a lot of people. But I wasn't looking to maim you, so..."

An awkward cough as he moved to get more water and dig through his things. "Excuses though, right? We should get those burns looked at. I've got a first aid kit somewhere in my bag."

Fweiu's expression slowly turned into a big, wicked smile. He didn't want to hit a beautiful woman. What an adorable sentiment.

"I don't think my burns are too bad. Look." She would get in closer and show him her arms. There was a good bit of red skin, and even a few scrapes from the fall from when she dived out of the way. It was probably fine.

"Maybe my people have a different way of looking at battle and romance. I know a few couples who grew a lot closer by fighting. "

"Still, I'd feel better at least bandaging you up. I-" Roldan looked up at Fweiu and saw that smile. Wicked. Condescending. It made him bristle instinctively, and his voice dropped an octave from his usual fairly upbeat sound. "What's with the..."

Battle and romance. Roldan took a second to think about this, and then gave a sharp, brief laugh. "Oh! Oh no, we do the same. I didn't finish. My mom always said, don't hit a beautiful woman unless you're prepared for her to lay you out."

"C'mere," he said, but didn't really wait for Fweiu to comply, Taking her wrist gently, he put aloe onto the burns and wrapped them up in bandages. "We could go another round. If you're up for it, I mean. Promise I won't hold back this time." Well, he thought to himself as he looked at her burns. Maybe a little.

Fweiu laughed. "Your mother is a smart woman, then." What a relief, there wasn't such a gap between their cultures.

She allowed Roldan to dress her burns. Aloe, bandages. She didn't expect them to help much.

"Burns are some of the only things I can't naturally recover from," she said. "So, perhaps another time." If not for the risk of permanent maiming, she would have loved to. "Maybe we can go back to the shifting?"

"Sure, sure. Maybe next time, yeah. At least the aloe might help with the pain." Roldan finished up the bandages and moved back to give Fweiu some room. "Alright, you've definitely got the basics down. Obviously keep practicing those. But I think your next goal should be to control the timing of your change. To that end..."

Roldan moved over to the large, partially buried log he had seen before. Shifting his arms and legs, he reached down and wrenched it out of the ground. It was a good bit bigger than what it looked from surface level. Carrying it over to Fweiu, he stood behind it the way one might a punching bag.

"So basically, I want you to take swings at this rock. But don't shift your hand until the last possible second. It might suck to punch a log with human hands, but it's good, uh..." he paused, grinning. "Motivation." Hopefully it was hard enough to take more than one blow, but soft enough that it wasn't going to break her hands.
