"Eh, uh, no it's not that," Avian said quickly, "You just..."
What was the right word?!
See, this is what happens when you talk to people! You get yourself into awkward situations! This should be a good example of what's to come if I try to make friends this year. She thought.
"Never mind," she said quickly and timidly, "Let's just forget I ever said that,"
With that, she began to move again, hoping she hadn't been too mean as to make him go away. She still needed him to help her find her way after all.

"Forget?" He blinked, seemingly even more confused, now. "Why is it we would forget parts of a conversation?" He took what she said rather literally instead of a (obviously intended) metaphor. Unfortunately for Avian, Alistair's inability to truly comprehend sarcasm and metaphors made it frustrating to talk to him sometimes. This wouldn't bode well for the girl who already clearly had difficulties socializing.

"Very well..." Regardless, once she started moving he simply shrugged and began leading the way. Until she said something in response to his question (if she even did at all) he would simply ponder what she said in a vain attempt to understand it. After all, he at least understood that she didn't want to discuss it further and he possessed no intention to try and convince her otherwise.

Unless she otherwise stopped him, he would soon enough lead her back outside and towards the building that was the girls' dormitory.

(OOC: I have no idea as to the layout of the Academy so for all I know everything is actually in one building. I've always imagined the dorms being separate though. Any thoughts?)

(I'd imagine the dorms would be separate too)
Avian followed at a little distance to her guide, making note not to speak again. And she thought she was socially awkward! This one was strange alright!
Oh well, Starlight Academy is for the weirdos I guess. She thought. That's why I'm here. I'm a wierdo too
If she had been a little braver, she would've tried to make conversation with him but fearing a phrase would go over his head again, and the fact she was too shy, led her to keep quiet and follow him.

Why are you so nice? Hmm...

His mind wandered for just a bit...

———————————————-

"Saint Corona?" The young woman asked, looking up at him. Corona looked down towards her and smiled.

"Yes, Milady Arwen? I trust all is well?" He folded his arms inside the plain white kimono. The very kimono Arwen had hand-made for him just the day before.

"I see you're still wearing my kimono... The fact that a Guardian is wearing something I made is quite an honor, you know." Arwen laughed and blushed. "But, I would understand if you wanted to change out of it. Wouldn't your - what was it called? A
Guardian's Cloak? - Wouldn't that be more proper for someone of your esteem? I wouldn't think my mundane cloth would be able to hold off a demon!" She looked away from him, down at the waters of the lake they stood beside.

Corona blinked and looked down at himself. "The
Cloak of the Guardian is merely a representation of our Will." He explained. "It protects us because we will for it to do so. Considering as much, one would come to the conclusion that a gift, infused with the love of the one that created it, would protect just as well, yes?" He smiled and bowed to her politely, his white feathery angel wings spreading out behind him. "I withhold no intention to ever replace such a thoughtful gift, Milady."

"W-what?" Arwen stumbled back. "You're going to wear my gift.. forever? But... I didn't make it nearly well enough! I'm just an apprentice..."

Corona looked back at her and simply smiled. "Perhaps Milady simply requires more faith within herself, yes?"

Arwen grumbled, her face even more red now. The human girl still couldn't believe that an angel would even be willing to accept her gift - let alone be willing to wear it forever. Surely he was just trying to make her feel better. Yet somehow, she couldn't help but believe that he was telling the truth. "Why are you so nice...?" She couldn't help but ask.

That was the last night Corona would ever see the girl alive.

Once they were outside, Alistair finally decided to answer Avian's question. "One does not require a reason to assist another." He stated plainly after the long, awkward pause that had occurred between them. It was the truth, of course. He couldn't really imagine it being any other way. It wasn't like he expected anything in return.

Insert montage of Alistair trying to help various people, and many women beating the tar out of him in assumption that he was just trying to "get" with them.

It was possible that many of the birds which normally avoided Avian when she was with other people would be less hesitant around her despite Alistair being nearby. This was, of course, because animals could sense the difference in Alistair's spirit even though most humans could not do so. While they wouldn't be any where near as friendly with him as they typically were with her, most animals would usually at least tolerate Alistair's presence.

It wouldn't be long before they reached the entrance to the girls' dormitory.

Avian noticed the birds slowly begin to flitter back to her, filling the trees and gazing at the two with beady black eyes. Allistair was defiantly different than others, her birds didn't seem to fear him like other humans. When he told her he didn't requite a reason to assist her, she mentally scolded herself.
"I guess not," she pursed her lips.
Just then, a little canary flew to her shoulder, jumping up and down on it and pecking at her hair for attention. She smiled sweetly at the little thing and let it ride with her as she walked.
"Red Factor," she identified the bird, unaware she had said it aloud.
She remembered reading about the small red bird on her boat ride to the island. Another Red Factor landed on her sun hat, pecking happily away at the straw it was made of. Mother Goose was at it again, attracting her children around her. She carefully eyed Allistair, looking him up and down as if she'd find the answer. The answer to the question, why weren't the birds afraid of him? But she saw what looked like the girls' dorms so she looked away, deciding to solve the mystery later or perhaps never.

"It would appear you have made some friends." He stopped and turned to her, giving a curious look at the birds. "Knowledgeable of birds, as well, I see. Perhaps you are friendly with all matters of beasts?" He appeared to be quite interested in whatever ability she possessed. A close friend of his also was able to get along very well with animals, and could even communicate with them. Did she have a similar ability?

A group of three girls walked out of the dorm, past Alistair and Avian. All three of them gave Alistair a weird look as they passed by. You're right, he is kinda hot but I heard he tries to seduce all of the Academy girls... One of them whispered, but in a manner where it was loud enough to hear, almost as if that was what she had intended.

Yeah, and I heard he actually fought Mr. Amarant's puppets and destroyed one of them! Said another.

What? No my boyfriend was there and he said Mr. Amarant creamed him!

Alistair gave a passing glance to the group but what they said didn't seem to bother him much. And for the record, Amarant's puppet destroyed itself when it slipped off the roof, it wasn't his fault! Though he also got dragged down with it which made for a pretty painful landing.

"Just birds," she responded with a smile but not directed towards him.
She was still busy staring at her passion fruit-colored friend on her shoulder, overjoyed by its presence. As quickly as they came, they fluttered off again. If she had been more of a temperamental person, she would've given a growl but instead she only huffed angrily. All the birds around her kept being scared off today! She turned to see what scared the canaries off. Three rather haughty looking girls were walking past, dripping juicy gossip from their mouths that Avian caught every word of.
She would've normally ignored such girls' gossip but judging by how oddly nice Alistair was, she wasn't totally doubtful of the rumor. Her one eye eyed him suspiciously for a moment before she realized how rude that was.
"Well thank you...Alistair," she said a little uncomfortably, "I'll be on my way now,"
She hurriedly began walking again, eager to avoid any stressful situations.
