Broen was as dressed up as he could be without looking too much like a hitman. Khakis and a polo shirt today, and just enough of a comb through his hair that you could tell.

He had the burner phone from Nick's visit in his pocket, turned off with the battery removed. Just in case. This was going to be a hell of a sell, but if he pulled it off he could tangle this asshole up in so much red tape he'd trip. And people who tripped were that much easier to take care of.

Broen put on his best good boy smile and practiced his 'hello sir's one last time before knocking.

There was pretty heavy debate about whether it was considered paranoia if they were actually out to get you, but no debate at all if it was considered paranoia if they were out to get your kids. Angelo didn't have kids of his own, but he'd taken almost a dozen under his wing, and almost all of them had come into his care with bright red targets painted on their backs from what their parents had been up to.

So he'd been careful.

Really careful.

The security measures Angelo had stuck his house with would make a president's security detail blush.

He wasn't half assing it.

Which was why, right around the moment Broen's knuckles hit the wood, the door swung open. Angelo was there, well aware the moment Broen had crossed into his property. Even if he'd been small.

Especially if he'd been small.

He wasn't in his uniform. Really, Angelo looked remarkably casual. Nicely fitted jeans, a T-shirt that said THE POLICE NEVER THINK IT'S AS FUNNY AS YOU DO, and actual honest to god house slippers.

It was a bit of an eclectic appearance, to say the least, and a very harsh contrast to the polo shirt.

"Broen, was it?" Angelo said, leaning against the door frame.

Broen blinked and kind of stared at Angelo, his lips pursing together. That was alarming. But not tht point. He kept his smile up, only giving a falter of confusion for a second. "Hey there, Scoutmaster. Sorry to bother you like this. I was hoping we could have a little chat?"

Straight to the point. No sense in bullshitting. He didn't move to enter the house, but kind of leaned over to look inside. "In private... May I come in?"

Angelo had some concerns. Really, he had a lot of concerns. Most of all, he was really regretting not grilling Jude on why he'd had Broen over with the door closed a few days prior. Broen showing up not too long later, dressed all nicely and wanting a private talk?

That wasn't good. If Angelo was a betting man, he'd have put his finger somewhere in the realm of blackmail, but he was really hoping that was just his (justified) paranoia showing.

He stepped back, gesturing for Broen to come in.

"I've got an office at the end of the hall. Doesn't see much use, but good enough for something like this."

Broen stepped into the house, noting that Angelo seemed... was tense the right word? Even if it was just for a moment. Yeah, that made sense. He figured that the Scoutmaster probably thought this had something to do with Jude. "Don't worry. This isn't about the Boyscout," he said absentmindedly on his way to the office.

Once insidenwith the door closed. "Quite frankly, this isn't about you or anyone living in this house either. I just figure, if you're anything like Jude, you're safe to talk to."
Safe, because Jude was a goody two shoes who wouldn't dream of taking advantage of a situation like this. Blackmail was easy, but only if you had the balls to pull it off.

There was a hmmm as Broen said it wasn't about the boyscout. Angelo didn't visibly relax, but that was more a concerted effort to keep himself looking as focused as he was.

The office was clearly unused. There was a desk and chairs and all the things that should be in an office, but there was also a fair amount of dust. Angelo didn't even sit down in the right chair, grabbing one of the ones from in front of the desk instead, spinning it neatly around before sitting down on his own.

Broen, from what he'd heard, wasn't nearly stupid enough to try and jump him in his own house. If he was? Well, he'd have a hell of a time of it.

"Alright," Angelo said. "What's going on?"

in the back of Angelo's head, he couldn't help but wonder if safe to talk to meant I'm in trouble and need help. It didn't fit with what little he'd heard about Broen, but there were two sides to every story...

Broen didn't sit in a seat, but kind of propped himself up on the desk. He looked around the room, noting how unused it was. Then he sighed. "Alright, so I gotta preface this shit. So, first. Dunno if Jude's mentioned my sugar mama. But that's not entirely accurate. I'm a personal bodyguard. And despite my tendency towards being an asshole, I take my job very seriously."

"Second," he continued, pulling a flip phone out of his pocket and turning it over and over in his hands. "I like people who stay in their lane. If you're a good guy, be a good guy. If you're not, well... I mean don't be an idiot but don't pretend you're some shining beacon of goodness. If you're anything like the Boyscout, you're as good natured as you seem."

But not everyone was. Broen' gaze shifted from the phone to Angelo. Trying to read his expression. Seeing if he changed or faltered or anything. Because if in this moment he gave himself away as dirty, the plan was shot.

Jude had not, in fact, mentioned the whole sugar mama thing. He'd left that bit out, no doubt for exactly this reason. Angelo had an eyebrow up, and he had a sneaking suspicion it was going to stay up for ages.

The bit about staying in your lane couldn't have been farther from the truth if he'd tried, and Angelo actually snorted in response to that. He was amused by that.

"Jude didn't talk about me then, and you haven't gone snooping. If you had, you'd realize I changed lanes in about the hardest way possible. Jude and I didn't grow up the same way at all. Totally different histories. Just pretty similar end points, I guess."

Whether or not that was what Broen was looking for remained to be seen.

"You might as well just tell me what you came here for. If you came because you trust Jude and you figure you can trust me for the same reasons, you're probably dead on."

Broen considered what Angelo said, then shrugged. "I mean. You're allowed to change sides. That isn't the issue..."

He sighed and slid the phone across to Angelo. "I was visited by one Detective Nick Miller the other day. And he had some very pointed, very accusatory questions about my employer. Questions that I have been assured you had already asked and had answered."

Broen stared at Angelo, maintaining eye contact to make sure the Sargeant understood what he was telling him.
"Now what concerns me is. The cell phone I just slid over to you. The one that is obviously a burner phone. Nick Miller gave me that, insisting I should 'wise up' and rat on my employer. For what, I still have no idea."

His employer. No names named. But Nick Miller? Angelo had his own interactions with him, and he was not a fan. Not at all.

But the implications that were coming along just from what little Broen was saying weren't the sort of thing he'd expected. He'd expected for Nick to be sleezy and probably unprofessional, but the implication was clear, and the frustration showed on Angelo's face.

A dirty cop?

"Did he say he was acting on behalf of the force?" Angelo asked. That changed things a bit, but was still... you know, bad.

He eyed the phone, but didn't make any move to touch it.

"And more importantly, who's your employer?" He doubted he'd get a straight answer, but it'd make a hell of a lot easier.
