Private Scorched Earth

He was flying above the forest, his wings carrying him forward, as he flew he'd lower his size down to about six feet. Stopping he'd use his wings to hover, he was picking up a scent, almost like smoke. Could be a campfire, could be a potential forest fire, he decided to investigate just in case.

So he'd follow the scent, landing in a clearing he'd control on foot, his wings folded onto his back. He'd stop as he came to a tree with a singe mark, he'd blow some freezing fire onto the mark just in case, now he smelt someone he knew.

The dragon would follow that scent a short way before he spotted James. "James?" he'd squint and approach, "you singing the trees?"

"Can't just leave you to start a damn forest fire," he'd say with a huff, eyeing the boy. "Needless to say......a forest fire would be very bad," even if he wasn't half nature dragon he'd still think it was bad.

"Now what's got you so pissed?" he'd ask, the tip of his tail tapping on the ground as he talked. "Trees can't fight back, so don't take your anger out on them," plus he knew the animals here, plus a few of the sapient trees.

"Some of these trees are people," he'd say, narrowing his eyes, "you're on a magic island, some of the trees and animals and sentient." He'd say this all with a warning tone.

"You can just start a forest fire to vent whatever you're deal with," he'd say, his tail coming down onto the ground with a thud. "Now calm the fuck down, calm down and tell me what's wrong."

He'd snort. "I'm a dragon, a species known for having destructive urges," his tail would sway. "So, tell me, see if I'll get it."

Then the borderlands threat came and the dragon would squint. "You assume you'd be able to," he'd tilt his head, "and assuming you'd even have the skill to go with your powers."
