The Starlight Academy Webzine is a free, annual .pdf publication featuring original Manta Carlos Islands Universe fiction and illustrations created by our members.
All members of Starlight Academy are welcome to submit an art and/or fiction entry by the December 31st for inclusion in the 2017 issue, which will be released early 2018!
Submissions will be accepted until 11:59EST on Sunday, December 31st.

Submission Details
• The Submission Period is from December 1st, 2017 to December 31st, 2017. No entries will be accepted after December 31.
• Please e-mail submissions to starlightacademystaff@gmail.com with the subject title 2017 Webzine Submission.
• All Submissions should be related to the universe of the Manta Carlos Islands.
• All submissions must adhere to board guidelines and be safe for work. No NSFW submissions in either category will be accepted.
• Members are welcome to submit to both the Fiction and Art categories, but only one submission per category is accepted. (For example, you may submit a short story and a comic, but you cannot submit two short stories.)
• Staff reserve the right to edit submissions.
• Staff reserve the right to accept or deny submission.
• Submissions entered to the Starlight Academy Webzine may be published elsewhere after the Webzine is released.
• While the author/artist retains rights to the original work, Starlight Academy retains the right to keep the submission within the publication even if the member leaves after the piece is submitted.
• Banning or serious rule-breaking offenses may result in rejection of submissions.
• All submissions must be original work created by (1) artist or writer. Collaborative pieces will not be accepted. Plagiarism will not be tolerated.
• Prior published work will not be included.
• Submissions must be created between December 1st and December 31st.
• Submissions should not be shared on the board. WIPs may be shared on social media sites such as facebook, tumblr, DA, etc, but the final piece should not be shared until the release of the webzine.
• Short Story submissions don't have to take place in present day. They can take place in the past or future, but they MUST TAKE PLACE IN THE UNIVERSE OF THE MANTA CARLOS ISLANDS.
Regarding Characters
• It is highly recommended that your submissions include only your own original characters.
• Artists or writers who want to include another member's character in their work must seek the Owner's permission.
• The Character's Owner must respond to this thread granting the submitter permission to use the character.
• The Character's Owner must approve the final piece prior to submission.
Short Story Submissions, Rules and Guidelines
• All entries must be original work by the author.
• The setting for all entries must take place in the universe of the Manta Carlos Islands.
• All entries must be submitted in English.
• Entries should be less than 12 pages in length.
• Entries should be double spaced with standard margins and use Times New Roman or Calibri Font.
• Entries must use black font color.
• Entries must be complete. Chapters or novel excerpts will not be accepted.
• Entries must be saved as a .doc, .docx or similar compatible format.
Art Submissions, Rules and Guidelines
• For this section, 'art' will refer to drawn work including character portraits, illustrations, and comics.
• Art may be black and white, or color.
• Art may be digital or traditional in nature.
• Only finished works will be accepted; sketches or incomplete lineart are not eligible for submission.
• Comics should be no longer than 5 pages in length.
• Comics must use a standard comic font for dialogue, such as mangaka, comic sans, or times new roman or calibri. No Script or Decorative fonts, except in the comic title.
• Comics should take place in the universe of the Manta Carlos Islands.
• Art should be no larger than 2000 x 3000px, and no smaller than 150 x 300 px.
• Art must be submitted as a .png or .jpeg format.
• Animated or .gif images will not be accepted.
