Lochlann picked the most innocuous place he could think of to meet Kaya.

He didn't want to meet her anywhere with food. He didn't want to meet her at her shop. He didn't want to meet her at the park, because it might have obliscs and those were too phallic shaped. He picked the least sexual place he could think of and left a message asking her to meet him there: an eye glasses store.

He sat on a bench outside and waited for her.

The irony of his appearance is that Kaya had seen Lochlann in worse physical shape in the past. He was healthy by physical appearances. His hair was getting a bit long, but not bad. He didn't appear sick. Due to an increase in his jogging regimen, Lochlann was looking a little sturdier, too. More like his old self.

But he did look tired.

There were dark bags beneath his eyes, which he attempted to conceal with a pair of sunglasses.

He couldn't clear his mind.

Everything on it was weighing him down. He needed the advice of someone better suited to dealing with these things. Someone he couldn't hurt. Someone who knew the situation and wouldn't end up at the bottom of the lake.

he had to admit, he was a little afraid of her.

When Kaya had gotten the message that Lochlann wanted to meet her she had debated whether or not to show up. It was his fault her friend Emily was tearing herself up right now. But she was still friends with Lochlann, and Kaya felt that she was the only one that could truely get them back together. So it was with a sigh that she got ready to meet Lochlann at an Eyeglass shop of all places. However she wasn't going to be pleasent about it. So though she was ready to just show up at the shop she made Lochlann wait.

After an appropriat ammount of time for how pissed she was at Lochlann she opened up a portal and found herself in front of the needed shop. At the moment she was wearing skin tight black jeans with a off black tank top. looking around she easily found Lochlann sitting near the front of the store. He did seem to be doing better, or at least physically doing better. At that moment she took a deep breath and walked on over. Her hips swaying unconsciously with her tail lashing behind her in agitation.

"Lochlann, been to long. But really? You wanted my opinion on Frames?" Kaya folded her arms under her breasts and cocked an eyebrow. It was taking a lot for her not to yell Lochlann's ears off to get back together with Emily. It might be heard in her voice if Lochlann was looking for it.

Lochlann jumped when Kaya appeared in front of him.

He didn't really realize she could materialize anywhere like that. She folded her arms and cocked and eyebrow and Lochlann put his hand to his pounding chest.

It was a miracle he hadn't leapt off the bench and started running.

"No, not frames," Lochlann confessed. Of all the things wrong with him, his eyesight wasn't one of them.

"I was wondering if I could get your opinion on Emily," he said, taking a deep breath. He stuck his hands in his pockets so she couldn't see how badly they'd just started to shake. "I didn't know else who to turn to."

Kaya frowned and glared at the man. Really now he was coming to her for advice, even when she had put it straight when she punch him in the face on the beach. "Well you get back with her. Brighten that girl's life. Fuck her brains out of her mind over and over again until she is just a small puddle of stuttering pleasure. Then you love her with every fiber of your being because you know that she loves you. And stop being the biggest ass about it and buck up and control yourself."

Tail lashing back and forth Kaya was standing there like a judge pronouncing judgement upon a criminal. "I'm pretty sure I told you all that before. But your thick skull can't seem to take that in. She. Loves. You. I've made her feel good, I've been her friend, I've been the girl friend that gives her ice cream and romantic comedies to make her feel better. Because of you! Don't get me wrong. She's my friend and I love her as my friend. But she loves a big fat ass hole bastard idiot called Lochlann."

Still standing there glaring at Lochlann she let her voice grow arctic as she looked at him. "So I want you to tell me Lochlann. Why you can't let her love you and why you refuse adamantly that you can not love her." Kaya leaned down then to look him right in the eye. "And it better be fucking good."

Post people were happy when they found out someone loved them.

Lochlann wanted to be happy. Instead, he was sliding downward in his seat in despair.

And also, there was a little bit of him that was sliding downward in case he needed a fast escape from Kaya going to punch him in the face. When she said that Kaya had been the one making her feel better, Lochlann was swarmed with gratitude and relief.

"You're a good friend," he said, quietly.

He couldn't quite look up at her. He couldn't really avoid her gaze, though, because she leaned forward to look her right in the eye. Fuck she was doing to punch him again.

The easiest answer was this: everyone he love kept dying and Lochlann did not want Emily to die.

But Kaya had a tendency to look past what should be an easy answer and make it not so easy. Lochlann groaned. He rubbed his eyes on his palms.

"There are a lot of reasons," he said. His heart was hammering so loud he wouldn't be surprised if she could hear it. He was glad they were outside because he was feeling less claustrophobic than if they were inside a building, but he still had the urge to bolt.

He didn't, though. He stayed sitting.

He took a deep breath.

And then, he said one tiny small part of the truth. It wasn't even the biggest issue.

"I can't be monogamous," he said. "I can't be the kind of person Emily wants me to be."

It wasn't exactly a lie.

He couldn't lie.

It was really more of the i'm really scared I'll eat her Kaya. But how could he tell her that without telling her what he was?

His stomach growled at just the thought of Emily's blood in his mouth.

Listening to Lochlann while watching him struggle from fidgeting under her gaze was a little cathartic to Kaya. This man had been the sole reason Emily was miserable right now. All of it caused Kaya to grind her sharp teeth together whenever she began to think on these things. Kaya herself didn't know if these sorts of things were happening because she was a mother now. Or if it was just that she didn't like seeing the emotional devastation brought onto someone else's life. When Lochlann said that there was a lot of reasons Kaya began to tap her finger to prompt him to begin speaking. It was also done to convey her anger towards the man as she listened.

When Lochlann said that he couldn't be monogamous Kaya gave a small angry sigh at him. "This argument again. Lochlann, is she asking you to marry her? Have you even TOLD her that you can't see only her? Have you even tried to understand things from Emily's point of view here?" Kaya leaned forward and gripped Lochlann's shirt at the collar and began to stand up. Making Lochlann follow and keeping her eyes on his.

"Lochlann, you are an idiot. You are the worst humanoid being in existence. You deserve to be miserable." Kaya paused for a moment to let that sink it. "Is what I would say if it was completely true. Loch darling. You deserve to be happy. The only thing you doing this has done is not just make your life a living void of misery and despair, which some people on this island call home. But You, yes you Lochlann, are dragging Emily down with." She kept her eyes on Lochlann's face still stern but her anger was wavering and was reduced to her being stern

"I want you to tell me why you can't be with her." She put a finger under his nose pointing her finger at him. "Not some abstract 'i can't be with her'. I want the real reason you can't be with her. If it wasn't because you are forcing yourself to stay away from her I'd guess you just didn't like her. But from the way you look, you have tried actively to avoid her. So get with the explanation."

Kaya had him by the shirt and Lochlann imagined he must know what it felt like when a wolf snatched a rabbit.

Lochlann hadn't told Emily he couldn't see only her because he thought he could. He had tried to understand thing from Emily's point of view, but it was hard, because he just kept coming back to one thought: why didn't she hate him?

When she said that he deserved to be miserable, Lochlann actually relaxed. It was as though Kaya acknowledge something Lochlann always believed, always knew to be true, but couldn't openly admit. It was horrible, but it also a relief.

But then she made him loose his mental footing.

He tried to catch it.

She was right. If he was pulling Emily down with him, he needed to try harder to cut her out of his life. No, he didn't need to try. He needed to succeed.

He tried to hide the look of pain that spread across his face, at the sudden frown and the furrowing of his dark eyebrows, but he probably wasn't fast enough to avoid Kaya's gaze. her face was only a few inches from his, after all.

In any other situation it probably would have been hot.

She asked him the reason.

The real reason.

Lochlann's heart made an attempt to escape his rib cage. He felt the panic starting to settle in.

He tried to breath but his lungs forgot how air worked. He reached up and pried himself out of Kaya's hands, falling backward on the bench, and for a moment Lochlann looked like he might take off running.

Instead, he leaned forward and put his head between his knees, his hands on the back of his neck.

He fought hard to push that feeling away.

"Kaya, when we...when we're together, you've figured somethings out about me, haven't you?" he said. He didn't want to tell her what he was. Lochlann tried that once, and only once, with another woman and it had not gone over well. That's part of why he was here now.

"So please, understand when I tell you why, it's not a this might happen scenario. It's just a question of when," he said.

Lochlann was starting to believe it didn't matter what he did. Lochlann was starting to think that maybe, really, he was cursed.

"She would die."

As Kaya had spoken she had seen the rainbow of emotions crossing Lochlann's normally stoic and solid face. Something was certainly unsettling him from what she had said and she kept in mind what had caused each of his visible shifts. When he tried to pull out of her grip she lowered him back down before letting go. She didn't want Lochlann to feel like he had to get physical to get away from her. Though she knew that with her training she would more then likely come out on top in that struggle.

When Loch asked what she had figured out from the times that they had been together Kaya sighed a little exasperated. Pinching the bridge of her nose she could help but have a touch of annoyance crop up in her tone. "Lochlann as far as I am aware you are some sort of Water Fae. Which includes about as many different kinds of Fae as there are species in the oceans. Though doing a touch of research a good majority of them like to drown people. So... yeah. That is all I know so far."

As Lochlann said that if he was with Emily that she would die if he lay with her Kaya rolled her eyes. They had talked about this before. "Lochlann, dear sweet idiot Loch. If it was such a certainty. Why am I still alive? Second, if you 'know' that this will happen why do you still sleep around? As far as I remember murder is still murder here even if the excuse is 'it's in my nature'. And tell me, if you are so scared of sleeping with someone you genuinely love. Why do I still sleep with my two mates when I could just as easily slip and kill them without meaning to? Tell me Lochlann. Are you such a weak willed individual that you will not over come your own nature to be with someone you want to care about?" Kaya glared at Lochlann, if he answered this wrong then she might have to do something drastic to prove her point.

When Kaya said water fae, Lochlann flinched like he'd been hit. When she said drown people, his shoulders curled up, as though he was trying to physically shrink himself to minimize the pain. It didn't work.

If anything, it was a visible confession that she'd guessed right.

It was a painful, visible confession that Lochlann felt nothing but shame and disgust for what he was.

Most of the students on the island just assumed he was a gifted human of some kind. Lochlann made no attempt to correct them. If enough people put water horse and missing girlriends together, Lochlann would be even more afraid for his life than he already was.

But then Kaya hit a sore spot. A very, very swore spot.

If he flinched like he'd been hit before now Lochlann's body jerked like he'd been shot. His head sunk lower, his eyes closed, and Lochlann's shoulders arched like he'd taken a deep breath but he hadn't.

The panicky feeling he'd been fighting before came over him in a wave.

For a long time, the only answer Lochlann managed was a tiny breath of air that was barely a word. If Kaya wasn't listening for it, she might miss it.

"Yes," he said.

Lochlann was weak.

He did everything he could to make himself stronger. He self-medicated himself until he was a walking zombie stumbling over his two feet, because it made it harder to be a good predator when his senses were dulled. He tried to cut people out, tried not too get close, but he couldn't help himself. He wasn't strong enough to stay away. He stopped eating around others to try and break any connection between food and person. He tried doing everything he could to not fuck up.

The problem was that Lochlann didn't want to die. if he did, he could have solved these problems a long time ago.

It took him a very long time to get enough air into his panicking chest to answer her.

His responses were short.

"Because you feed on me," he said.

It was why she was alive.

"I can't love her," Lochlann said, which was wrong, because he'd meant to say he doesn't love her. But can't and don't were close enough to the same thing.

And the last part?

"Do you dream about it?" he asked her, filling looking up. He did his best to keep his face blank but despair was seeping through the cracks. "Do you wake up in the middle of the night wanting to kill them so badly it hurts?"

He swallowed.

"I tried, Kaya," Lochlann said. His voice broke. Tried was his murder confession. He'd tried, and tried, and tried, but it didn't work. He'd still slipped up. Lochlann had done everything right and Cat had been dead for less than a month.

"I can't do that to Emily, too," he said. He tried to think about slow breathing but he couldn't. His hands shook. He was glad they were outside.

She did not need to see him flinching and huddling to know what she said was true. Kaya wouldn't have said the things she said unless they were true in her mind. As to her questions Lochlann said he was weak, that he didn't eat her because she was eating him. That he could not love her, which was just confirming in Kaya's mind that he did love Em. Lochlann asked if she dreamed about killing the loves of her life. That he had tried not to do what he had done, that he didn't want to do that to Emily.

First thing first in Kaya's mind, she needed to answer his question. "Loch. I can't dream. I mean there are bursts here and there where things happen in my mind. But every demon has their punishments. I can't dream normally. The most I remember from when I sleep was that time I dream walked with Emily. And every failure in my life that I have committed is punch into my brain. As to when it comes to my loved ones... Lochlann, what do you think my love does to me? As a succubus what do you think comes with when I love someone?"

She paused for a moment waiting for a response but answered her own question. "I want all of them. Not just the little sips I take from everyone, not the full gulps I can take if I let my guard down before I control myself. I want to devour every part of their soul like they are a well cooked steak and I've been starving for years. Like I haven't had a decent meal since the day I was sucking on my mothers breast. Every person I love I am in danger of over feeding and killing them while they are in my arms." Kaya felt herself shaking with rage at herself. She felt a single tear roll down her cheek but she wiped it away. "I want to feed on my own child Lochlann. That is how bad it gets for a demon. I have to watch myself every minute to make sure I don't harm anyone that I love. But I deal with it because I love them."

Kaya went down into a crouch and put hands on either side of Lochlann's face to make him look into her eyes. "Lochlann, love. When you are weak, then you know that you care. Strength does not come because you learn to stop caring. You become strong when you care enough to over come any obstacle. That way you can be there for those that you love."
