Ælfric is pretty open about his religion, even if he's a bit resentful of his transformation. While I'm sure Ælfric would have no issue identifying Bældæg from their Norse name, I've no idea if Valli would know that Ælfric is referring to the same deity by their Anglo-Saxon name. Nonetheless, it'll be interesting to see what sorts of shenanigans we can toss these two into.

He likely wouldn't, I'm afraid. He's a bit out of date / out of touch. TBH The first thing I can think of is that he'd recognize Mayday, which is the next major blot I'm aware of, but that puts things about a month off unless you can think of another way they could bump into each other.

May Day would be a good way to introduce them if we can't think of another way to do so. Ælfric would recognize at least some of the traditions from the Þrimilci-monaþ customs from his own time, which actually where a lot of the May Day traditions in England come from.
Now, so far as ideas for maybe getting them to meet up before then, is Valli interested in historical European martial arts at all? Ælfric does teach a few courses regarding the fighting techniques from his time, specifically those from Northern Europe and England, which might be of interest given Valli's Scandinavian heritage.

The more I think about it the more I worry the only way this would work out is a random bumping into each other, but then it's hard to say they'd bounce around. Maybe we need an event for them both to be there? You've said you don't do ICC though.

Yeah, I don't really do ICC, and that's mostly because I'm far more comfortable writing paragraphs than roleplaying in chat clients nowadays. That said... I have been thinking over the past couple days of a plot idea involving the Norse/Germanic gods and Ragnarök, but it's only some bare bones stuff at the moment that'd need to be hashed out in more detail before it'd be anything workable.
