Then he was just worded things wrong. Simple. Done. No need for him to worry about being "concerning."

"I'll try to watch my language, then. Avoid giving people the wrong impression and all that." He tried not to sound too dismissive towards Valli's words.

"How would I describe Jafar?" This was a question more to himself. "A bit aloof. Easy to be around. I'm still getting a feel for his personality, but at the very least, he feels different from my dad. Not as quirky or boring with actual interesting stories about his life to tell me. Only issue I have is that it feels like I'm playing the manic pixie dream girl role again. Or that I might fall into that role. I want someone who can keep up with me and I don't have to drag around."

"What matters is that you know what you want. You want an equal, and you're seeking that more than anything else. I think so long as you keep that in mind--what you've said about falling into that role--that you'll be able to keep things separate."

The idea was to keep your eye on the prize, in other words.

"I think our session is about wrapped up," Valli added. "But I think we covered a lot." Even if he got the impression that Kon was unhappy with the previous conversation. He couldn't just drag out the session longer so they ended on a perfectly good note.

Having confirmations that his feelings were legitimate, that he was going down the right path, made Kon feel much more certain in himself. At this point, it felt like every session was him asking his therapist to approve of his feelings and tell him what he's doing wrong in life. It was annoying when Valli said something he disliked, but the times he gave Kon the okay did wonders to his confidence.

"We did. Overall, I think I'm... happy? Satisfied? I'm satisfied with how the session went. Thank you." It would have been nice to say he was completely happy, but there were some things about the conversation that could have gone more his way.

With a soft, but somewhat stiff, smile, Kon excused himself from Valli's office.
