“Shh… Allen, calm down, sweetie.”

The hands that ran through his hair caused the anger burning in his eyes to settle slightly as he took a deep breath, trying to do as Enelya had asked of him. It was so hard to calm down, though, when he knew that he had to share her with the forest. It was so ridiculous… just when he thought all the trials were over, right when he believed things could go back to normal, the very things that Enelya had cared for in her previous life had betrayed her. The unfairness of it all stabbed at his very core, but as she looked him in the eye, he could feel some of the rage dissolving. His expression turned to a simple pout; maybe it wasn’t right to solve this with anger, but he sure did want to! He just wanted to be with her again and make up for the time they had lost… and he didn’t want any stupid forest to get in his way.

“You amaze me.”

Allen smiled lightly at the kiss, and her words caused him to grin widely. Just a few words from her and he had calmed down, even if it wasn’t completely. She had calmed him down enough for him to at least think a bit more logically. “Thank you,” he responded in a soft tone into her ear, closing his eyes for a moment.

He was silent for a moment, waiting to hear if there was any news from the trees. Enelya had said nothing about their responses, and since he couldn’t hear them, he doubted they had even responded. Oh, that was great! Allen Haldis had scared the trees into silence! He could see it now on billboards and advertisements – ‘Allen Haldis, professional tree-scarer since 1400’. Okay, so maybe that was going overboard… but the thought was amusing enough to make him smirk.

An arm wrapped around Enelya’s waist while the other arm went under her knees, scooping her up into his arms. It would be easier to carry her that way, just in case the trees decided to go back on their word. “Well, my leafy little friends,” he addressed the trees, a slight hiss added to the word 'friends', “we’ll be seein’ ya!” At that, the immortal turned and started walking again, a light skip to his step as he added a quiet “Maybe” to his last statement.
