Boy did Sidney pick a bad night to forget to charge her phone. Sure, it sucked to have a dead phone for the day, but she never expected it to come back to bite her twelve years into the future. After getting unfrozen, receiving the scoop about what happened to her entire school, and getting sent on her merry way, she was stuck trying to figure out what became of everybody she'd known.

Her first move was to head home, if the old lady was still there, and she had to be, then she could charge her phone and start figuring things out. Unfortunately, that didn't work out as planned. It turned out that twelve years didn't treat an old sickly human so well. Instead, Sid was met by the new residents of her house, a young couple she'd never seen before or at the very least didn't recognize. After more terrible news about how the world had gone to shit, there was only one thing left to keep her going. Her girlfriend.

Aranea hadn't been at Dark Crystal Academy at the time of the supposed freezing bullshit and Sid didn't see her after when everyone was getting briefed either. That meant she probably never got frozen. But Aranea wasn't a sickly old lady, she was her kick-ass spider gal, and she was definitely still around.

Without wasting any time, Sidney asked to borrow a phone from the couple living in her old home and dialed a familiar number into an unfamiliar device. It was still hard to believe it had been twelve years since she called her girlfriend, it felt like less than a day. She held the phone tightly, muttering "pick up, pick up, pick up" into the phone and impatiently bouncing her knee.

After her call with Jackie, Aranea had gone home, had a stiff drink, and had taken some time to sort out her memories. She had grasped the idea that all of her 'new' memories were real. It was a lot for her to deal with.

The thing she dreaded most of all was talking to Sidney, she decided. Obviously, there was no way their relationship could be what it was, no matter how much 2007 Aranea had wanted to marry this girl someday. Aranea had grown up too much. Sidney would have to move on, and it would probably hurt, no matter how obvious and necessary it was.

It was while Aranea was stressing about this when she got another phone call. She picked up almost immediately.

"Hello?"

Sidney took a moment to register Aranea's response. It was definitely her, but it wasn't the same her as yesterday. That hello was enough to let her know that Aranea definitely hadn't been frozen. That meant she must've been 30 now.

"Rain? It's Sid, do you remember me?" She probably should've paid better attention when the situation was being explained to the whole lot of them, but she remembered them telling everyone that island's residents were still in the process of regaining their memories or something along those lines.

"Of course I remember you, Sid."

Gods, she sounded the same as she did 12 years ago. Which was obviously how it would work, but still...

"It sounds like they filled you guys in on what happened. Are you... doing okay with all that?

It was nice to at least hear that Aranea was alive and hadn’t forgotten her.

It wasn’t enough to hear her though, she wanted to see her. “I’m... I don’t know, this is all kind of fucked up. Can we meet up somewhere? This isn’t really my phone and I really need to see you right now...”

Aranea could tell that Sidney was hurting over this. They didn't have to be girlfriends for Aranea to still care about her - her sister from another mysterious egg. They would still have a bond, Aranea decided, and no kind of timeline-breaking ooze asshole could change that.

"Ok. Where are you? I'll be right there."

Sid needed someone right now. Aranea put her phone on speaker, and Sid would hear the sounds of her putting on a jacket and getting her things together.

“I’m at-“ Sidney was going to say my house, but cut herself off early. That wasn’t actually her house anymore, and she wasn’t so sure Aranea remembered where it was either. So instead, she gave the actual address.

She was just thankful that Aranea was able to drop whatever she was doing to help out.

It wasn't long until Aranea was at that place. She only recognized it as the moth girl's old home when she was knocking on the door and struggling to remember why this place was so familiar.

It wasn't the old lady who answered - it was some young married person. The old lady didn't seem to live here anymore. The realization was hitting Aranea in waves when she finally saw Sidney again.

Aranea was still clearly Aranea, but she was different. Different clothing style, taller, stronger-looking, More mature. It must have been jarring. Like how seeing Sidney unchanged was jarring for Aranea. It had been so long...

"Sidney, I can't believe it's you!" Aranea was upbeat, and she reached out for a hug. Sidney could probably use some warmth and positivity.

Sidney was prepared to go wait outside, but the couple was nice enough to offer her a couch to wait on until Aranea got there and she wasn't about to turn that down.

When she heard a knock on the door, she got up, getting to the entrance right after the new owner of the house answered it. When she finally saw Aranea again, she took a second to just look at her. In that moment, it really hit her that this was all real. Aranea was obviously older and different than she used to be. But she was still Aranea and she was offering a hug. Sid really wanted one of those right about then.

Very suddenly, her wings gave a short flutter and she practically jumped onto Aranea. All four arms wrapping around her tightly. She shut her eyes and just held on tight. For what was probably the first time in her life, she let her actions do the talking.

It seemed like Aranea was right about her needing a hug. She held on to Sidney for a good ten seconds or so, not saying anything yet, just embracing.

"It's so good to have you back."

She wanted to say she missed Sidney. She wanted to say that she knew this was happening back then, that she'd fought to get Sidney back. Aranea had even been denied that opportunity. It just made her mad to think about it. That 'veil' thing had stolen so much from them. She gave Sidney one more squeeze and pulled away.

"...Alright. I think we've bothered these people enough." She nodded over to the actual owners of the house. "Maybe we can go get something warm to drink and catch up."
