Boy did Sidney pick a bad night to forget to charge her phone. Sure, it sucked to have a dead phone for the day, but she never expected it to come back to bite her twelve years into the future. After getting unfrozen, receiving the scoop about what happened to her entire school, and getting sent on her merry way, she was stuck trying to figure out what became of everybody she'd known.
Her first move was to head home, if the old lady was still there, and she had to be, then she could charge her phone and start figuring things out. Unfortunately, that didn't work out as planned. It turned out that twelve years didn't treat an old sickly human so well. Instead, Sid was met by the new residents of her house, a young couple she'd never seen before or at the very least didn't recognize. After more terrible news about how the world had gone to shit, there was only one thing left to keep her going. Her girlfriend.
Aranea hadn't been at Dark Crystal Academy at the time of the supposed freezing bullshit and Sid didn't see her after when everyone was getting briefed either. That meant she probably never got frozen. But Aranea wasn't a sickly old lady, she was her kick-ass spider gal, and she was definitely still around.
Without wasting any time, Sidney asked to borrow a phone from the couple living in her old home and dialed a familiar number into an unfamiliar device. It was still hard to believe it had been twelve years since she called her girlfriend, it felt like less than a day. She held the phone tightly, muttering "pick up, pick up, pick up" into the phone and impatiently bouncing her knee.
