"It's good to be back I guess, beats being a statue." It was hard to think of it as her being back. It really didn't feel like she had ever left.

When Aranea pulled away, she pouted a little. She honestly felt like she could've kept hugging her forever. Everything was weird now and Aranea was the one thing that was still familiar, well mostly.

"Those guys?" She pointed to the couple behind her. "Nah, they love me." She looked back at them expecting some form of confirmation, but instead they just kept silent. Not that Sidney really acknowledged it. She was starting to kid around a bit, though she was still far from her usual spunky self.

"Yeah sure, a drink sounds nice. I haven't been up to much in the past twelve years, but I wouldn't mind hearing what you've been up to." Sidney started leaving but wasn't exactly sure where she was going.

Aranea smiled appreciatively at Sidney's joking around. Her old friend was bouncing back, or at least trying to keep herself from deflating about all this. She mouthed a quiet 'thank you' at the couple who let her stay here before skittering off to join Sidney.

"So, remember that one place we used to go to? The Cauldron?" It was a restaurant, and the bartender there used to be one of their upperclassmen, until he graduated and became a bartender. Sidney would remember going there a couple weeks ago. "That shitty store next to them got wiped out by a tsunami and the Cauldron bought it out. I still havent seen what it looks like now." But now Aranea was leading the way over there.

"Oh right! I have to tell you the big news. I actually managed to become a scout!"

"Yeah?" Of course Sidney remembered The Cauldron, it felt like it hadn't been that long since she was last eating there. As Aranea continued to talk about the place next door, Sidney knew exactly what she was talking about with that one too. "Oh yeah? We should check it out, anything'd be better than what was there before."

Then came the good news and for just a moment, Sidney managed to truly forget about the current situation. She completely stopped in her tracks. "I told you! I told you you could do it!" She took a step back and made a few weird excited noises then jumped onto Aranea again. "I'm so proud of you!" She squeezed her tight, then let go again. "You gotta fill me in on all the details!"

Aranea hugged her back. "You were one of the only ones who believed in me. And you were right."

Sid probably needed a distraction. Aranea started giving Sidney some of those details as they made their way to the bar. How she got help to stop abusing caffeine, how she started doing all those extracurricular martial arts classes, how she got her shit together for college, and how her experience with breaking into places and causing trouble continues to help her to this day. She also mentioned the time she broke into a 'trading post' full of genetically engineered cat-people slaves, and helped the extraction team take that operation down. "That one was in the news," she told Sidney with some amount of pride.

By the time these stories had been told, they had made it to the bar and ordered their drinks. "Order what you want, by the way," she said. "I'm paying." Within reason, but that didn't need saying.

They would reach a pause in the conversation. "So... any idea what you want to do now that it's 2019? Any... mysteries of the future you want to know the truth about, or something?"

There was a lot of warmth to be found in Aranea's stories. Sidney wasn't always the best listener, but Aranea made it easy for her. She had no trouble following along, asking her to elaborate and curiously wanting to know more about her friend's recount. Everything was so exciting and happy, well, for the most part at least. Sidney was quietly bothered by the fact that she'd missed everything.

When they arrived at the bar, Sidney started looking around curiously. "Eh, not too shabby." However, when free drinks were mentioned, that focus swung to acquiring something to drink. "Oh, you don't gotta do that... But if you insist." Within a few seconds, Sidney had a bottle of cider in her hand and quickly opened it with a bottle cap opener that seemed to appear out of thin air.

She started tasting the bottle as Aranea asked her about 2019, still unsure as to whether this was better or worse than the version from 2007. "Hmmm, alright, let's see..." Sidney squinted her eyes and took another swig of her cider while she thought of things she wanted to know. "I got it, what's going on with phones? That thing I used earlier was kinda crazy, is that what everyone has now?"
