Valaina was bored. It was pretty late and she was having yet another sleepless night. She didn't know why she came to the forest, but something about walking through an eery forest late at night made her feel uneasy.

She closed her eyes and concentrated. Using her one and only power, she transformed herself into a cat. Her orange, fluffy coat shined as it reflected the moonlight.

She trudged deep into the forest and climbed up one of the birch trees. She perched on a branch extending over the path. She heard a noise. It sounded like a twig snapping. Someone or something was coming. Immediately Valaina's eyes lit up. She stood on guard, eyes glowing, ready to pounce.

Damn, Jonathon thought to himself. He had just stepped on a twig, and even though he was sure no one was near by, he liked to be quiet.

He looked around. The leaves were of red, orange, yellow... colors he hated. Although he hated color in general, bright colors annoyed him the most. He touched the tree, and drained the color from it. The tree itself became black, and the leaves became shades of gray. He smiled... colors like black, gray, and white comforted him.

He looked around, just to make sure no one was around. He noticed a cat in one of the other trees. He ignored it, and walked on to another tree, draining the color from that one as well.

What was this guy doing?, Valaina wondered as she watched this guy drain all the colors from the trees. He's ruining the forest!, she nearly screamed in her head.

She jumped onto the next tree, determined to bring a stop to this. She continued to jump from tree to tree until she was a far distance in front of him. She jumped onto the path, gracefully landing on her feet. She ran down the path until she came face to face with him.

She let out a loud, screechy meow. With her glowing eyes she stared at him, to see what he would do.

"AHHHH!" Jonathon looked at the cat, wide-eyed. "Um... nice kitty..." He began to back away from the cat. He stopped after a moment. It's a cat... a cat! what can a cat do?

He then remembered something his mother had said. 'Don't judge things by their appearance; they can be stronger than you think.' Perhaps what she had said applied to this situation...

"Um... hi... what's your name little fella?" Jonathon walked cautiously back to where the cat was, hoping it wouldn't scratch him or something.

Valaina was amused. She loved it when people were afraid of her.

She just sat there, staring into his eyes. She didn't want to attack, he seemed harmless. She didn't think he would hurt her. However, she didn't want him to continue ruining the forest.

He was standing right in fron of her. She walked forward, between his feet and made her way to one of the colorless trees. She looked back to see him looking at her. She looked at the tree and made a loud, whiney noise.

Jonathon raised an eye brow, and followed the cat toward the tree. He looked at the cat to the tree, still confused. What did it want?

He bit his lip... did it want the color back in the tree? [/i]I thought animals were color blind...[/i] he thought. He sighed.

"You want the color back in the tree?" he asked.

Valaina began to purr. She hoped this would send the message. She was having a lot of fun tormenting this poor boy. It's his own fault for ruining the forest, she thought with determination. I wonder what he'd do if he knew I was human.

Valaina walked towards Jonathon, brushing against his legs to show him that she was, indeed, happy. She then turned to the other tree that he had discolored. She could see the look of annoyance on his face.

She was rather curious to see why he had changed the trees. She was having a difficult time staying a cat. She had so many questions...

She made up her mind. She would get him to return the last tree to it's normal color, and then she would transform back.

Jonathon sighed once again, and walked toward the other tree. Just like he had done with the other one, he touched it. The tree was not its original color. The boy wished that that cat hadn't been there... otherwise, he would have been able to sleep peacefully. All the colors in and around the school, especially bright ones, made him nervous.

"Anything else?" he asked, annoyance in his voice. "If not, then I really need to get back to the school." At least in the dorm I can change the colors for a little while... without any cats to make me change anything back.
