Slam! Alec threw the door shut as he trudged off. God, his mom made his blood boil sometimes. She always treated him as though he was a child, not that he was a fully grown adult. Now that he was twenty, Alec was desperate to move out but his plans didn't go ahead as he had planned. How dare she belittle him by ordering him about like he was some sort of servant to carry out her responsibilities.

His rage brought him to the park; somewhere peaceful and away from home. A nearby tree met his fist in an attempt to take out his anger, blood starting to seep from his knuckles. Of course, this was a regular occurance; something small and seemingly meaningless being blown out of proportion. Alec's mum was a kind and gentle person but sometimes, things would be misinterpreted. The littlest comment could be taken as an attack - disrespectful. There was a lot of rage pent up inside him, rage that occasionally exploded by the tiniest spark.

After assaulting the tree, to which only he seemed to be phased by it, he leant his back against the trunk, slumping down until he hit the floor. Heavy breathing starting to become regular again, his expression also became neutral, though a fire still raged in his eyes.

Adria jumped, her eyes flying open as someone punched the tree she had been resting in. Peering out from the uppermost branches she spotted a dark haired male slumped against it, sat on the floor. She didn't need her empathy to tell her he was angry, his actions told her that. Perhaps, she thought, this was one of the people that supposedly needed her help. Or maybe he was just angry at a one off event. In any case, she figured she should go and find out, if only for the sake of being nice. She could hardly leave the tree without saying something to him or she would probably seem fairly rude.

Gracefully, she jumped out of the tree, landing softly to the side of him. Hoping he hadn't been too frightened, she moved to stand in front of him. She stretched out her hand in greeting.
"Adria. You punched the tree I was in, quite forcefully I would like to add. I decided to come and see what was wrong."

Lost in thought as he watched people walk by, Alec jumped when a seemingly younger girl landed beside him. Had she been in the tree he was punching? She was a very pretty girl, her hair a striking coral color, and only a couple years younger than him, by the look of it. He took her hand and shook it firmly. "I'm sorry about disturbing you. I'm Alec," he replied. Adria had a caring face but he had never seen her before. He was not about to tell a stranger about his problems. "And I'm fine."

Why was the girl up in a tree? There was something about her that somehow stirred that anger up a bit inside him; the fact that she seemed so elegant that it was annoying. He wasn't going to be outright rude to her, though. That would be rude.
"So you haven't been here long, have you? I haven't seen you around."

"You clearly aren't fine. People who are fine don't go around punching trees." Adria's matter of fact tone left little room for argument as she sat down in front of Alec with her legs crossed. "No, I haven't been here very long. I arrived 8 days ago. When did you get here?"
Perhaps she should get to know Alec a little better first, she decided. From what she was learning so far, people tended to be more open with people they knew more about. At least, that what she thought but she was still figuring out the intricacies of the mortal nature of those on earth. It was very different to that of the inhabitants of the planet she helped to rule over. Adria looked him over, he looked to be a little older than her vessel but she couldn't quite tell by how much.
"What is your age, Alec?"

Alec just shrugged at her comment. Talking to someone wasn't really what he wanted to do at that moment in time. Though he had a feeling this girl wasn't going anywhere. "You're a newbie then. I have lived here my whole life," he explained to her. In a way, he sort of hated living in Manta Carlos. He was an outsider on an island of outsiders. That was the irony. Alec never really fit in because he wasn't out of the ordinary like everyone else.

"I'm twenty," he responded. "What about you?" Gears started to turn in his mind as he began to think. Adria clearly was not human; she had a sense of regality about her. The way everything she did just seemed to be so elegant. "What are you?" The words just escaped his mouth. "I mean, if you are alright telling me." He had to stay polite, though he wanted her to tell him whether she wanted to or not.

"You must know the island well, then." She smiled warmly at him. "Perhaps you can show me around a few places. I'm still getting to know my way around here." Adria got the sense that Alec didn't speak to many people. She also got the sense that he'd rather not be talking to her. Not that it was going to stop her from doing so. If she had been brought here to help, then help she would. Or try to, at least.

His next question was something that threw her a little. Having to pause a for a moment, she replied, "I'm 19." At least, that was her best guess. Having only how her vessel looked to go off, 19 seemed about right. "and I'm a human, somehow blessed with powers. Nothing quite as interesting and some of the other people here, the demons and deity's and such," she said with a smile and a soft laugh. "May I ask what you are?"

"I know it well enough." He often wandered around on his own a lot, though almost everywhere he looked, there was a reminder that everything else was so 'special'. "There's not that much to see really." Walking through the woods was his favourite. Everything was normal in there. Like him. No carnivorous flowers like the forbidden forest or demons walking by; just him and the wildlife around him.

Alec was right in predicting they were of similar age, though she did not seem fully convinced, herself. He didn't remember seeing her around college or even seeing her before at all. Did she decide to not go to college? Then he remembered that she literally just told him that she arrived just over a week ago. Things that didn't seem so important tended to slip from his mind. "So, are you goin to join the college here?"

Adria claimed she was a human but was 'blessed' as though you weren't 'blessed' with being just human. You had to have 'gift' or 'power' to be relevent, words that just seemed to boast how everyone was better. He hated it and there was always that one question that people always asked. Sure enough, so did the girl sat before him. "I am just human," he told her casually, as though it didn't matter but an underlying sense of bitterness hid itself from sight.

"I doubt that I will join the college, I am still considering it though." Adria had been thinking about this recently, weighing up the pros and cons of attending. On one hand, most of her time would now be taken up by studying for something she'd likely never need again once she left the island. On the other, she would meet a lot more people and from what she'd seen so far the most problematic people were the younger ones.

Tilting her head a little, she considered him and his words. "There is nothing wrong with being purely human. Easier to fit in and hide in any corner of the world, not having to fear for your safety if the wrong people discovered you had powers. There are many brilliant mortals who did great things with no powers. Like..." Adria had to pause, trying her best to recall her limited knowledge from the Earth Studies project her mother made her do over years ago (because even 500+ year old goddesses cant always escape insistent mothers) "Shakespeare! Or John Lennon! They did wonderful things with no powers. You don't have to feel resentful, you could do equally wonderful things if you tried."
