Quiet

It was the middle of the night. Stars shone overhead, providing just enough light to see by. Marvin climbed over rocks and boulders, eventually stopping atop a large boulder. He leant up against another rock. Finally he had managed to escape the world. No infostream ran through his head, thrown out by computers nearby. No genetic makeup impeded his vision, visible from other things. It was just him, and nothing else. Marvin closed his eyes. He was almost asleep. He didn't even notice the other person coming...

Leara began humming the tune to My Immortal softly. Lately, she had taken a liking to Evanescence, and My Immortal was one of her favorite songs.

She looked at the ground as she walked, the hood of her cloak set in a way so that it was hard to see her complete face. She kicked a rock softly, only to amuse her. It was kind of late, and although she liked the night the night, it was also one of the most boring times of day; no one was outside for her to talk to.

As Leara continued walking, she thought she could see something. As she got closer, she could tell it was a person, a boy to be precise. He looked like he was asleep, or close to being so. She sat on a rock below him, her right leg crossed over her left. She watched him for a moment, then deciding to talk to him.

"Good evening," she said. "It's a beautiful night, isn't it?"

Marvin jumped about a mile when he heard someone talk. Seeing who t was, he calmed down. "Yes, it is. Quiet, no ..." His voice trailed off. He didn't really want to talk about the implant. Leaning back against the rock, he watched the girl. "I'm Marvin. You are?"

"Leara, pleasure to meet you." A faint trace of a smile crossed her mouth. She looked at her nails, trying to think of something to say.

A thought popped into her head, and although it wasn't exactly the best conversation topic, she decided it would do. "So did you come out here to find peace and quiet, to think, or something else?"

"Quiet, to think, to get away from technology, to avoid the infostream..." There were so many reasons. Looking up at the stars, Marvin found himself wide awake. Looking back at the girl, Leara, he wondered what her power was. He didn't need to ask, he could just check her genetic structure, but he couldn't be bopthered. "How'd you get here, this school, I mean?" His voice was casual, as always.

Leara sighed. She was trying to think of the simplest answer she could, without giving too much detail about her powers or past.

"Well.... One day, I found out I could fly. I told my parents, and they didn't take it too well. But oh well, I'm here now... what about you?"
