'Damn, that's good,' the girl thought as she finished the last bit of her orange soda. She looked around at the various passerby, who didn't seem to be looking, leaned up against the machine, and took a bite out of the bottle.

As she finished off the bottle, the bun-headed girl slipped the protective white mouth mask back over her face and picked up her bookbag. As she flung it over her shoulder, she wiped a bit of sweat off her brow. Despite the heat, she still wore her characteristic letterman jacket. A few people passing by gave her a glance, and she eyed them dangerously. 'Fuckin' losers. Jesus christ you gotta problem with the face?. With a hiss of discomfort she walked faster down the sidewalk.

Had it not been for the damn heat she would've kept walking all the way until she got to the dorms again, but she got thirsty once more.

"These fuckin' prices are gonna kill me.." she mumbled through the mask. The dark haired girl put it a dollar and some quarters in the closest vending machine and waited. The orange soda came down, but suddenly became stuck in the indented glass.
She stared for a good few seconds before yelling. "What the hell?! You stupid piece of SHIT!"
She kicked the machine repeatedly, getting angrier each time. "Ugh! Come ON are you kidding me?! This is bullshit! God dammit!"

But from down the sidewalk she heard the familiar sound of an adult coming to ruin the 'fun'.
"HEY! You can't kick that! Hey, kid! Knock it off!"

She turned to see a tall blond man running towards her, pointing. His uniform was obvious- a police officer. The girl turned back to the machine and kicked again. 'C'mon, c'mon, c'mon! If he questions me he'll know I broke that frickin' mailbox down on 32nd!' And what luck, the bottle suddenly fell. Success- sort of? She grabbed it and with surprising speed took off just as the officer neared her.

She ignored his yells and sped down the sidewalk, until suddenly screeching to the left and running into the thick trees. 'All right Maruko you really screwed up. It's only your second week here and already fightin' the police. Fuckin' nice. Quickly she ducked underneath some bushes and crouched down. Sure enough, a few moments later he ran past, breathing hard.

"Like ants to a picnic." Maruko chuckled as she stood and brushed the little green leaves off her skirt. 'Sure as hell won't find me in here. And..if he comes back I'll just run for it again, screw it.' With that, she unsealed the lid of the orange soda and took a long swig. 'I've had worse days, I guess.'.

Nao had taken a liking to this park. It was so peaceful, quiet, and there were plenty of areas where she could sit and get in tune with nature. Sometimes she'd spend majority of her day there after classes were done. The city was too much and the school campus tend to have way more people than she was comfortable with. After all, she was still quite green when it came to adjusting to the hustle and bustle of the real world. It was so different compared to the solitude she was left with in the village. People were everywhere and most of the time she didn't know how to deal with anyone except for smiling and wishing them a good day. Then she didn't like the people who whispered and gawked, often wondering why a person like her was on the island to begin with.

In the park? Nobody was around to chatter or disturb her flow. Here? She was at peace...Or so she thought.

She got up from the bench, wanting to get a drink from one of the vending machines that was...!!

There was cursing and kicking and eventually yelling! She stepped aside just in time as the two voices passed by her. Someone was in trouble, but that was none of her business. Instead, she went for the same vending machine and the very same orange soda can gave way in the machine and rolled out onto the exposed tray! It took a few tries but she retrieved the can and chuckled to herself. "Huh! Guess it's my lucky day!" She popped the lid and took a long needed drink, cringing just a bit as the carbonation tickled her throat. Orange. Yes! Not only did she save the time to locate some change, but the drink was free and one of her flavors nevertheless! She ended up down the same path as the commotion while she contemplated on her to-do list. What to do...What to do...

Suddenly, something was headed her way! There was that brief scent of fresh rubber and she stopped in her tracks. The ball rolled right past and right into the bushes. Children giggled off in the distance and one of them was headed her way! "Ah! Sorry 'bout that, i'll get it!" she carefully lay her staff down and reached into the bushes. Her hand roamed, searching...Searching...

Ahah! She grabbed onto something alright--something round but it felt different. It felt softer, squishier...and fibrous. Sort of like...Hair? She was quick to pick up the aura of someone hiding in the thick bush and...Oh my, she managed to grab someone by the hair! Immediately she gasped and released. "Ah! Is someone in there?! Sorry I grabbed your hair..." She ended up grabbing the ball and handed it off to the child beside her who giggled and ran off. As for the mysterious person inside the bush, she remained crouched there as if she were some weirdo talking to a plant. "What're you doing in there?"
