La’Hi looked momentarily uncomfortable at Ai’s use of the word “Spirits”, but didn’t say anything. Her chest puffed up with pride as she showed off the horns and blue skin. She was proud of her skills as a magic user, and getting admiration like this felt wonderful.

“Is this place safe?” She asked. She looked and sounded cheerful enough, but there was a twinge of nervousness and caution that wove itself in. “Someone could damage the spell, and we’d all found ourselves trying to fit in a room much smaller then this one. I was not scared or anything, but it was seeming a bit strange risking such a messy death for no reason.”

She wriggled into the seat and grinned. “The atmosphere is plenty nice though! Almost worth the risk to have it so big.”

"from what I've been told if the spell did fail its only tied to the green house out back. So we're safe here. Plus I think its tied into the foundation of the greenhouse itself so the would have to break the building itself. But I'm not the magic theory student so I've just been told this stuff." Giving a shrug Ai explained that to the best of her abilities.

"Oh, La'hi I was curious, does your name mean anything? Like as Dà Niúshì called me my first name means Love. Though I've called him Dà Niúshì after asking him because I couldn't even get close to pronouncing his name correctly... I think its like Grand Magestic Bull in Ancient Greek or something."

It was about that time that Dà Niúshì came out from the greenhouse holding two platters and getting around the counter he placed a large bowl of diced and chopped fruit infront of La'hi and a plate of different hays and grasses infront of Ai. "One medium fruit bowl and Small Grazer special. Enjoy."

With that Dà Niúshì walked away to help some more customers. "He's really nice if you talk to him. Funny thing though is he believes me and my siblings are benevolent forces on the world and thinks giving me free food increases his good luck and fortune. I'm not sure if that is actually true."

"The literal translation would be... This is tricky... La almost means move, or fast, and Hi means mind, thoughts, and stuff that wasn't physical. Together we use it to mean moving thoughts, but it was almost the name of our actual language, as well as the individual... Components? Like La is a La'Hi. Does this made sense?"

She dug into the fruit salad, and nearly fell over at the taste. "This is amazing!"

She shovelled it into her mouth as fast as physically possible, letting all the sweet flavours wash across her tastebuds. When she finally stopped shovelling food in and swallowed, it was to take a breath. A deep one to prepare her for her second 'dive'.

"Maybe it do? You can share abilities, so maybe through goodwill, you can share luck? Silly though I suppose! Nomf!"

"It does but yet not at the same time. Though I think once I understand more of it I'll be able to understand the finer points easier." Ai the began to eat as well smiling at how La'hi was eating and how much she enjoyed the food. Ai picked up some of each of the grasses and hay and placed them on a piece of flat bread sort of like a fajitas but with grass instead of meat.

The food was really good, another reason Ai came here whenever she could. And seeing just how much joy her new friend was getting out of it just made it better. Then when La'hi pointed maybe she did have some form of luck transferance Ai shook her head. "I'm not my sister, I can only increase my own luck for a very short period of time."

AI went on eating silently for a bit finishing a second Flatbread wrap. "La'hi, this is going to sound very strange and please don't take this the wrong way, but you said you could change you body, are you able to change genders as well?"

She paused and realized something blushing furiously once more, "you don't have to show me! Just yes or no... It's just for... You know what never mind sorry..." still blushing she began eating her third wrap.

"It's fine! No problems. Gender changing is actually not allowed" She speared a piece of fruit, and chewed on it thoughtfully as she considered the question in more detail. "Well, to be specific, changing your identity, especially for long periods of time, is not allowed. People still do it of course, usually for espionage or assasination, and my peoples laws don't govern earth so I could easily do it if I wanted to."

She scraped the inside of her bowl clean, and let out a small burp. She giggled, and gave Ai an apologetic grin.

"Though physically, I'm missing a womb, and I have a bone and muscular structure closer to that of a mans." She continued. "It's more efficient, and everyone who could does it back home. If we want to have child, we just change until we get what we want back. All in all, gender is not as important for us as it is for you. Magic is the same between boys and girls. I'm actually kind of curious about the whole separation thing. Why do only girls whear skirts and dresses? And why don't men have long hair? All the short hair is really boring, see, look at him! Don't you think he had better have braid?"

AI didn't know what to say for the longest time as La'hi spoke about being able to change. So she simply finished eating her food first. Then there was a topic change and her perpetual blush receded slightly. "Well back like 100 years ago it was something boys wore until they hit a certain age. I think now its just a societal thing."

When La'hi pointed to a random man and asked if he wouldn't look better with a braid Ai couldn't help but look over still blushing. "Well....I don't know to be honest. To me it would look a little weird because I grew up thinking short hair and clean shaven was masculine...." She couldn't help but shrug at this however.

"Beards are gross." She admitted, still trying to spoon out the last few drops of juice from her bowl. She wasn't greedy enough to ask for more, but it was oh so tempting...

"So you must be very old if you were one of the chinese zodiac. Or is it a um... Place? No, title? Like, anyone could be zodiac? Well, not anyone maybe..." She pufed out her cheeks, trying to think of a way to say what she wanted. If it was correct though, she wondered if the abilities shared would change. But then Ai had said they were all brothers and sisters? Was it some sort of gift granted to anyone stupid enough to have that many children? It seemed like a fair exchange if that really was the case.

Ai finished her last wrap as La'hi asked a couple more questions of her, to Ai it seemed like the two of them had just went into sending a question or two....possibly three, at the other then as the other answered would send more questions back the them. It made Ai smile a little to herself that she was making a friend.

"Well La'hi, I'm not THE Zodiac I'm just...like...a small piece of it. Though I don't know how old I am to be honest, the school said I looked 16 so they wrote me down as being of that age. As far as I'm aware my family is tge only Zodiacs around. I'm pretty sure there are more of them out there I just haven't met them. And me and my Siblings were born the way we are, we aren't even sure where our powers come from except from within ourselves."

When Ai said it she realized something in her broke as she remembered something her eldest brother said. First their dad vanished shortly after their mom got pregnant with Ai, and their mom died shortly after naming her. A tear rolled down her cheek before she could wipe them away. "Sorry...“ she sniffed real quick trying to hold back everything."... I... My eldest brother didn't tell me much about our powers he said he'd tell me more..." another sniff. "...when I was ready, the only other people who could have told me were my parents and..." She didn't know how to convey why her parents aren't around or how she was different because she didn't know her parents. Another tear fell from her cheek as she tried to wipe then away. "...I'm sorry, I ruined the happy feeling. "

The concept of being only a piece of the zodiac was slightly confusing. Weren't they all the zodiac? Together? Did the zodiac stop existing when they were separated, or if one of them died? Why did she insist that she was only a piece. It was probably just a culture gap, or maybe she'd just misinterpreted a word.

La'Hi froze when she saw the first tear, and the pieces fit themselves together in her head. She'd seen the look of a child who'd lost their parents, and now she was seeing it again. She internally panicked as she tried to figure out what to do. In the end, she settled for barking out a "La'Ih!" and glomping her new friend. She gripped her tight, and rested a hand on her horns. That had calmed her down before, hadn't it?

"I remember first day when a rival family sent assassins after me and my parents. It was not the first time, but was first I knew about it. When I realise that almost every month, someone would try to uncreate my parents from, I could not... Function. I was terrified, and used every ounce of my will to keep them in sight. I would have bad dreams where they left, and had not come back. But they were just dreams. I woke up."

You didn't, was the unspoken final sentence.

At first Ai was a bit surprised by the sudden hug from her friend but soon her tears flowed stronger as she buried her face into her friends chest. She wasn't making sound as she cried but she was shuddering a little and the occasional hiccup would escape.

She only partially heard what La'hi was saying but it wasn't too long before her tears stopped and she instead hugged her friend tight. "Thank you..." She sniffed slightly as she broke the hug and sat up straight again. "...your parents are okay though right?" Ai was now throwing herself away from the topic of her own parents now so she didn't break out into another fit of tears.
