Arach seemed proud of her, genuinely happy for her achievement. The realization awakened feelings in Chloe which she thought were lost to her. She may have left her first family behind, but Arach was family too. Sort of. At times she felt to Chloe like a big sister, or an aunt, or maybe a nanny.
She didn't know how to react to Arach's praise. This was around when she moved to the dumb videos on her phone, trying to keep herself and Arach a little preoccupied. Eventually, her arm was released, and TatD needed to work on her other arm. Arach would have to move herself and her chair to the other side of the table, switching sides with the robot.
"My phone's getting kinda low, but I think i could focus on the book through this part. Maybe you could read that to me?" It was a history of werewolves in the Americas. A surprisingly engaging read for something so academic - the author had the artistic sense to weave the details into a coherent story.
She wouldn't be able to focus on anything when she got to the big tattoo on her abdomen. And it had to be the abdomen, too, no matter how much more it would hurt than the small of her back. There was a negligible advantage of having it on her belly over having it on her back, but that wasn't important to Chloe. She just didn't want to have a dad-themed tramp stamp.
