Chloe wasn't descending into hell to gain power today, but a part of her wished that she was. At least she knew what sort of pain to expect if she went to hell, and she imagined that it would take a lot less time.
She walked into the tattoo parlor with Arach by her side and a book under her shoulder. Arach was there to read the book to her, and to otherwise provide emotional support - to the degree she could expect Arach to do such a thing.
Today, Chloe was going to get tattoos that would let her summon her servants to her. Or in dire situations, she could even summon her father with one of them. It was something she had been thinking about ever since she landed in the hospital. If only she had some way to better protect herself, or more people to protect her, she might not have come so close to death. She had learned a lot about demonology, but she wouldn't be able to apply it to protect her. Not unless she had more demons to protect her, and ways to summon them to her at a moment's notice.
She dived deep into the literature. All of this would work in theory, and last weekend, when she had summoned Nonabtaob and Ozerchabal, she learned that it would work in practice. All she had to do now was get the tattoos.
The tattoo artist she would be working with today was not quite an artist, technically. His name was "TatD-5.7E3," he was a sort of android, and he could replicate designs sent to him with perfect accuracy. Chloe had gotten a referral to him from one of her classmates. Best way to get highly precise tattoos for magical purposes, she was told. Not a drop of ink would go where it wasn't supposed to.
"Welcome, Ms. Black," the android recited for them as they entered the door with a jerky mechanical wave. "Welcome, Arach. Please follow me." TatD-5.7E3 led them back to his workspace. He had a slightly larger space to perform his work than the other tattoo artists, his own little room, and the reason for this became apparent when they walked in. He had a very complicated table with adjustable moving parts. As TatD plugged a thick cable from the ceiling into the back of his head, the table whirred to life, extending panels to create a table that was just Chloe's size. And were those restraints? "Please remove the clothing from your upper body so we can begin," said the android.
Chloe looked at Arach, confused. She turned to TatD. "Why are there restraints?"
"The restraint system is in place to immobilize the body, limiting the risk of involuntary movements disrupting the speed or precision of my work. They allow me to apply tattoos 26.31 percent faster without sacrificing precision. Without them, this appointment will take up to one and a half additional hours. This was in the information packet you received earlier." Chloe looked at Arach again. She knew about her servant's... proclivities. "Please remove the clothing from your upper body so we can begin," the android repeated.
"Alright then. I guess we're doing this now." Chloe took off her shirt and bra, handing them to Arach along with the book. "Could you hold on to these for me?"
