Shaking her head in what was probably a mixture of dumbfoundedness and dismay, she studied the doors around her once more. No, there had to be a reason. It could be illusory magic - there was no denying that the weirdest stuff happened on Manta Carlos, so hat was definitely in the realm of possibility - but that would have been explaining it away without proof. If there was a way in, there had to be a way out.. right?
Never in a million years was she going to admit there wasn't an exit, nor was she to admit that she was a bit frightened by the implications of such a setting. Would they get out?
Aswan sighed, as she listened to Bea's explanation about illusions or glamours or whatever magic it was this time, and fidgeted with the rims of her glasses. A common tic of hers.
"Maybe," she replied, taking care to ensure her tone was even and confident, "but if it is magic, then assumedly there would have to be a failsafe. A way to ensure the spell worked. A workaround. A weak point. Something I - I mean we can use to exit this... whatever this is." Worst-case scenario, Roland would realize she was gone, and come looking, and no matter how clingy he was, he was certainly a good performer of magic. Wouldn't he know a bit more about magic than she did?
Then again, all her time on this island had been spent studying, so perhaps not. Either way, that wasn;t the major concern now. What the major concern was, was getting out of this library.
"We're not trapped, we're just.... er.... far from the exit. Wherever that is." She muttered that last part under her breath, searching for an indicator of the exit.

You dumbass. Béatrice cringed at the sudden realization of what she missed. It was so apparent. So blatant. Yet neither she nor the girl beside her seemed to have realized. "No, I'm not a dumbass. I figured it out myself," she muttered to herself in what could be considered an airy whisper.

She turned towards the girl proud like she had some achievement beside her that was invisible. "Our phones!" Before explaining further, she pulled her own out. Her movements were giddy and her smile wide as she went to reveal a large smartphone (that was scaled to fit her rather large hands) that had an unreasonably bedazzled, light blue case. After turning it on, she pointed it towards the ghost with an exaggerated gesture "We have a signal. I will call the police, then my wife just in case. You should call someone too." If this was some kind of lighthearted, but ultimately misguided prank, locking someone out from the rest of the world through technology would definitely be going too far.

"Hm?" Absentmindedly, she nodded in response to Bea's figuring it out comment, still looking for some sort of exit (though there were doors all around her, so that was fairly stupid, in hindsight) "Mmm-hmm." If thee were some sort of exit around her, what would be the best way to go about finding it? Surely, since magic was essentially energy, there had to be some sort of rhyme or reason to it...? Hmm.... Fowl's coefficient, perhaps? Or she could try phasing through the doors to look around - ah, but then she'd get stuck if she lost concentration, and besides, her powers were out of comission, and were the very reason she'd decided to come here.
Aswan was really starting to get tired of magic.

"Our phones!"
Bea's yelling jolted Aswan out of her trance-like state, and she snapped her head back to the giant woman, who was now pulling out a rather large, exorbitantly bedazzled cellphone. She wondered dimly if Bea had used every sapphire on the face of the Earth for it. After Bea had pointed it into Aswan's face (barely missing her nose), the ghost girl studied the phone's screen. "Are you sure you even have signal?" she replied, skeptical as ever. "That may be a good idea in theory, but put into practice it needs quite a few variables filled." Who would she even call, if she could of course call them? Roland was practically not an option, as what happened earlier must have hurt him to the nth degree.
"I think I - er, we, can find a way out of this ourselves, as well."
It was clear that, though Aswan thought of it as being logical... really, she was just being stubborn.

Béatrice's smile twitched when she saw the girl's doubtful look. "Can you not see it here? But fine, I will try it out myself. I did suggest the idea anyway." She turned her phone back towards her to start calling the police, but her typing slowed when the girl suggested they find a way out themself. "Clearly we are stuck." At this point, she had no shame about saying that. As thankful as she was to be trapped here with someone, she could only go so long being with one person. She was hungry too.

"Oh, don't be that way." Her tone was somewhat patronizing, but that was to keep her annoyance from revealing itself. "Did you have some epiphany? I am all ears." The small, round deer ears on her head turned towards the ghost. "We could continue to go through doors and hope we stumble through the right one again, as long as we do not split up. I could also make a portal back to my dimension for myself, but then you would be trapped here all by yourself." And Béatrice knew better than to bring someone who was not oricenta to Ilada. Coming back to Ilada, then going back to Manta Carlos sounded dangerous anyway. Sooner or later the ghost girl would be looked for, and Béatrice was the last person seen with her. "But, by all means, if calling for help is below you, I can always get myself out."

Admittedly, Aswan hadn't caught the service bars of the phone when Bea had showed it to her - she'd been too distracted by the bedazzled phone case - but she wasn't about to admit it to the woman's face. Clearly, yes, they were stuck. But there was some shame to the word. Another failure? Most likely. No, she was sure she could figure this out: Aswan was sure of it. She'd only gotten startled by the strange properties of the doors. As a result, she turned to investigate the doors behind her.
Until, of course, Bea's patronizing tone permeated the air. Ouch - what a sting to her pride, being patronized as such! Aswan rolled her eyes.
"Not that I have had an epiphany, exactly, but more that I refuse to give up on a simple puzzle. Unless you've given up alread - "
She stopped mid-sentence. Even she didn't believe herself on the puzzle bit, and anyway she was noticing that her words had turned a certain shade of condescending, which was concerning in it's own right.
Sigh of frustration.
"Apologies. What I meant to say was that that is a viable solution, if we have the service for it. I wanted to see if I can solve this si - this puzzle."
It wasn't an outright admittance of defeat, but it was something close to it.

Béatrice's usual cheery smile had a sadistic edge to it now. This was the closest she was going to get to the girl saying she was right, and she even got an apology out of it!

"I would also love to solve this puzzle too, but I have children at home and a wife. I cannot allow myself to stay here playing games when who knows how long we have been gone. With places like these, I would not be surprised if time moved differently here than outside." Preferably they would have only been gone for a few minutes outside, but Béatrice did not want to take any chances.

Knowing that if she pushed this girl too far, the situation would only become tenser. "If you would like, I could continue to help to try to solve this. I will say, if we keep finding ourselves lost, we will call for help. That, or I will make myself a portal out of here and let you find your way out." Her final words came out harsher than intended, but it was only fair. Béatrice had stuff to do. There was no reason to restrict herself here when they were ways for her to free herself.

With her smile returning to its usual cheeriness, Béatrice dug out a bag of chips from bag and began eating. She was already finding herself weary from all of this. Sleeping here would be unsafe, so she had to rely on the food she had stored to keep her energy as close to full as possible.

Well, Aswan reasoned with herself, trying not to prick at Beatrice, she does have priorities, i suppose. And her reasoning about the time does seem to be sound. She nodded, convincing herself. At least she had had the decency to explain herself, that Beatrice. Though, she could do without that harsh tone. Getting back up, Aswan took a deep breath. She hated to say it, but -
"Alright, fine. Let's call for help and get out of here. You're right, it's much faster and we won't have to spend more time here."

She barely finished her sentence before Bea had pulled a bag of chips from her bag, currently in the process of munching on them, content as could be. That sadisitc (?) edge to her smile was gone. She'd gotten Aswan to admit defeat. And here she was, eating chips.

"In the meantime, though,"
she mused to herself, pulling out a tiny notebook and pen, "it wouldn't hurt to study the magic in place here, confusing as it may be...."

The moment they could agree that it was time to call for help, Béatrice had her phone out and was preparing to call the police. "I am happy you have finally accepted my proposal, and I would love to study the magic here. What I need to know though is, what is your name? I'm sure they would like to know who is trapped here. They may need to contact our families if this take longer than we hope."

She popped a few more chips into her mouth and went back to observing their general area. Even if she was stuck here for a while, she had a good amount of snacks, could produce her own water for some time, and there must be plenty to learn around here. The more information, the better for the police, and the better for her and the girl.

For a second there, Aswan got lost in studying the door in front of her. It didn't appear to have any sort of magic applied to it... "Ah! Er, yes - my name is Aswan..." she replied distractedly, still looking over the door. Something in the jamb? Perhaps something in the hinges that changed a setting whenever one opened the door... Her eyes caught on the shiny doorknob. Perhaps it was something - some sort of mechanism - in the knob when turning it?

From the side of the room, she heard the crunch of more chips in Bea's mouth. Okay, so maybe she didn't have chips for herself, but she was always sure to bring around some chocolate in her pocket. Pulling it out from her own tiny knapsack, she took a bite and kept studying the door.

"Do you happen to know how magic affects doors?" Aswan called out to Bea.

"I wanted your last name too, but that is fine." Béatrice went on to call the police, giving both her full name and Aswan's name, then giving an explanation of the situation with the address included. When she gave all the information she knew, she was allowed to hang up.

Béatrice's expression glowed when asked about how magic affects doors. She moved closer to Aswan with a bounce, her mood significantly improving now that help was on its way. "I know some possible uses door enchanting. The most obvious one being portals. I am still certain this is either very strong reality warping magic or very strong illusion magic. It would explain why every time we go through a door, we seem to end up lost or in the same place, yet we seem to still be in the same general area we originally came to."
